Nintendo held another meeting today and talked more sales figures and success of the DS. Then they released a little treat; the first screen shot of the new Pokémon game for the Wii.
A tiny bit of info about the game was released, saying that it will be compatible with the upcoming DS games and that it will in some way utilize the WiiConnect24 online service Nintendo has planned for the Wii. To what extent it will be online is anyone’s guess right now, but we all know how well Pokémon could do with the right online system.
UPDATE: A video of Pokémon Battle Revolution has appeared online. Get over to YouTube and check it out. Looks very slick and I’m glad to see that the characters actually hit each other.

Oh. My. God.
This looks so awesome. My god. If they pulled this out, who knows what ELSE their working on. In any case, even if this is a stadium game, this looks awesome to the max extreme.
And I was excited before, ugh, why can’t the wii come out today…
yanipheonu - 06.07.06 9:20 am
Eh it’ll probably just be another Stadium now with online. Yet another Pokemon console game that still isn’t the RPG everyone wants.
SV - 06.07.06 9:30 am
It may be another colloseum game, but it will most likely be an ONLINE colloseum game!
THAT’S what I’ve been waiting for!
Rynen10K - 06.07.06 9:36 am
Looks nice….but if its another Stadium ill cry.
John - 06.07.06 9:37 am
At least it looks pretty.
AdamBot - 06.07.06 9:42 am
Holy craps. Wii is looking more and more impressive every day. They really have the potential to plow through the market, especially in Japan.
Orayn - 06.07.06 9:57 am
lookin´ good! smooth graphics
xtracool - 06.07.06 9:59 am
I hope it’s the MMORPG that everyone and their mother wants.
duncan - 06.07.06 10:00 am
I want a good damn Pokemon MMORPG and I want one now damit.
Seriously a Pokemon MMORPG would be the greatest thing ever, it could be the ultimate Pokemon game. If this is just another Stadiumm game I’m gonna be rather upset. It was fun the first 2 times, but if its gonna be the same for a fifth console outing, I’m gonna be pissed.
flamecondor - 06.07.06 10:01 am
I haven’t been a fan of the Pokemon series since… well, never really… but the graphics in that shot look impressive.
Dean - 06.07.06 10:04 am
Wii need a Pokémon Snap 2! M’kay? Plz kthx bye!
Cdammen - 06.07.06 10:05 am
Pokemon Snap was the best game ever.
duncan - 06.07.06 10:08 am
pokemon snap would work great with the wiimote
jodyanthony - 06.07.06 10:14 am
Like we didn’t know this wouldn’t rear it’s ugly head soon enough. I’m just amazed at the sheer VOLUME of games NOT announced at the E3 press conference. I mean, Pokemon and Smash Bros. (both huge games for Nintendo) they saved to maintain momentum. I love it.
PiratedTVPro - 06.07.06 10:26 am
I agree about Pokemon snap. It was amazing.
J. Tagmire - 06.07.06 10:27 am
I’m not the biggest fan of Pokemon, though I do enjoy some of the games. An Online feature is what the series has always needed.
Imagine new Pokemon to be downloaded, so no need for a new game every year. Or online battle mode is quite probable.
The game looks quite pretty and I’m quite excited!
TK-Linx - 06.07.06 10:28 am
Kotaku is reporting that nintendo also stated the console would sold at a “loss” check it out http://www.kotaku.com/
That to my knowlage is a big departure by nintendo!!
Dafub - 06.07.06 10:48 am
and checkout http://www.next-gen.biz/ as well
Dafub - 06.07.06 10:59 am
I’m hoping this IS another Stadium title. I think they need to do the portable version right before they go and make an RPG for a console version. Not to mention the fact that both the last Gamecube games did have story modes… and the point is they weren’t that great. In order for me to really renew my interest in the series, the upcoming DS versions have to really be something special (and judging from what I’ve seen of them they’re not). Regardless, the screenshot looks pretty nice. Even if it looks like they are still sticking with the battle style of having the Pokémon stand nowhere near eachother and just sorta mime the attacks…
Scottus0 - 06.07.06 11:57 am
My “non-gamer” friends used to play Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Stadium 1 a lot, and I mean a lot. They never really got into the other games after that (neither did I to be honest), but I bet a full fledged Pokemon title on Wii and online would lure them right back into gameland! I know I’ll pick it up if it allows me to play against online buddies.
VIRTUALBOY - 06.07.06 12:01 pm
It’d be great to play this with people the world over. I hope the bulk of the games is going through the gameworld online, make it happen Nintendo!
Supa - 06.07.06 12:05 pm
Yeah , selling at a loss is a first for Nintendo, and this means that the console is worth more that the $250 announced, and it’s good news IMO, it could end up more powerful that we expected.
MaCraMaN - 06.07.06 12:36 pm
wow pokemon cools but i like the vc annoucement better
bug guy - 06.07.06 12:45 pm
I see that water pokemon still float for no real apparently reason. This game is destined to suck.
BladeofKeyZ - 06.07.06 12:49 pm
Pokemon Snap 2 = Teh Mohterfcknig goodness!!1!!!111
Pokemon Battle Revolution = Pokemon Stadium 5, characters seem plastic
??? - 06.07.06 1:33 pm
OMG!!!!
They’ve given me what I’ve been desiring. It’d better be “fully” online.
I (Heart) Nintendo (and Gamefreaks)!!!!!
Mekman - 06.07.06 1:54 pm
386 Pokemon could fit on a 1.5GB disc. I believe Colloseum and
used a small fraction of that.
Should Nintendo go with a DVD let alone a dual-layered one, there’s no reason to believe that a full fledged RPG can’t fit on it.
DeAngelo Guillory - 06.07.06 2:49 pm
So, let me se if i get this straight… we cant have and full console Pokémon RPG STILL!? Its sad… sure, it would take some years to make, but the payoff would be enormous. Possibly even boosting the fame of the series back to its gold age a few years ago. Unless this is better then the N64 games, has good connectivity with WiiConnect24, as well as Pokémon Pearl and Diamond (of course assuming they live up to the Gold/silver name and aren’t a huge disappointment like ruby/sapphire), I will probably not get this… but if it DOES get all that and some neat extras of any kinds, I’m in.
Lance McCloud - 06.07.06 2:52 pm
I’ve grown out of the Pokemon phase, but i must admit, this game will do amazing online.
Marc - 06.07.06 3:30 pm
Hey, you guys wanna see the VIDEO?!

PiratedTVPro - 06.07.06 3:45 pm
Might want to update the newstory with the Video Link as well…
PiratedTVPro - 06.07.06 3:49 pm
It’s probably more of a blessing to Nintendo that the Stadium series formula exists, since it could be easily monitored and controlled: with less MMO style diversions and focus on the battles there is possibly less opportunity for children to get side tracked and intimate with strangers (with rare candies) who’d want to show up at their homes and get to know them even better…. besides that leaves more disk space for these awesome shiny Pokemon models.
I’d love a MMORPG too, but the only way we’re going to get one is if gamers themselves online acted more like watch-dogs to protect children (who’ll have online access as equally as they would to videogames regardless) and to prevent predators from taking advantage of them. These types are no different than your average annoying online troll, and if it’s a community environment there is no way it can be fully regulated (and monitored) by a corporation of any kind (just think of any MMORPG. Hell even X-box live and that’s from Microsoft). If you want this kind of Pokemon game sooner, it’s the participant’s responsibility to help keep online gaming a safe and “fun” place to be.
Otherwise the “Stadium” style is the very best option (and I don’t think I need it to be anything else other than that online). I only hope me and cousin can pair up online to take on challengers. My level 100 Zangoose with ice beam is psyched!!!
Mekman - 06.07.06 4:43 pm
I hope it’s not another lame Collesium game.
BreakfastPills - 06.07.06 5:12 pm

The game helps to prove that Wii is able to produce great graphics! As we all know pokemon never are the top graphical games of Nintendo systems, so most games will easily top this game. By the way I got the new NP and I saw the screen shot of the Wii build of Medal of Honor:Airborn and that game looks way better than a number of 360 games.
Link117 - 06.07.06 6:19 pm
wow, as stupid as it may sound, i can seriously not wait for this game. I love the pokemon series (Im actually training my team as i write this), and im really looking forward to D&P, and now this! Plus, onlines gonna be amazing. I look forward to 4cr maybe having a tourney for it someday
Lil_fighter - 06.07.06 6:25 pm
I do wish that they make this into a REAL Pokemon RPG. Even with camera angles from the GB games. Colosseum was crap, didn’t play
. I just want something like Pokemon Burnt Sienna for Wii. I dunno.
Buttonbasher - 06.07.06 7:05 pm
I think its been said that there will be DS connectivity, Imagine using your DS as the pokedex! now that would be cool.
Now imagine a craddle that you fit your DS and a wii controller in it, so that you can aim your pokedex at the pokemon on the screen, and it would get his data transmitted on the Ds screen
Edgar - 06.07.06 7:34 pm
Also, I wonder if there would be microphone commands? I mean, I’ve always wanted to pretend to throw a pokeball and say, “BULBASAUR, I CHOOSE YOU!!” and have it actually happen in the game. (only half joking here…)
TOMATO - 06.07.06 7:38 pm
This look s gorgeous! I love how the terain is affected by the monster’s attacks. Now, just add online battling, trading, and item trading,a better version of friends codes that are more like an Xbox Live gamer tag, some customizable items for the Pokémon trainers, and this will be gold and god.
I’m not fond of the shupaa-shiny lighting that so many games are using in this “next-gen”, but it seems to work for the Pokémon, and it makes sense, considering that it’s a futuristic urban stage at night.
Scentless - 06.07.06 7:41 pm
Wow, this is what I’ve been waiting for, for years now: A Pokemon Stadium’ish game that has attacks like this, where the characters would actually hit each other, this just looks too awsome.
Krono6 - 06.07.06 7:50 pm
I must say, after watching the video, it looks much better then the N64/CGN games in terms of visuals. Most of all, the pokémon now physically interact with one another, with is a great upgrade as the visuals look really good in general. I hope they fix it so that pokémons with fur actually have that and not just a smooth shaded texture on them, the Wii should be able to handle that. I still hope for a good NDS Pokémon game before I get this though, that is key. And the fact that the connectivity should be MUCH better now, it can probably be more fun as you can probably play the entire game with your NDS in that case.
Lance McCloud - 06.07.06 9:19 pm
Seems like they fixed something ive hated about console pokemon games, it seems more fast-paced. Collusium and the otherss were OK but they were way too slow, when compared to the GBA games. I loved the camera in collusium and now theyve perfected it. It’s like watch a televised pokeomn match. Luv the new hp bars too, really dynamic and innovative way to do it! And the animations look great. I like how the “recovery” animations are more fluid with the attack, and the team battles will probably be smoother. Finally, gotta give props to the real time arena damage. Id like to see evne more (smashed containers, melted/frozen ground, static left over from thunder)
yanipheonu - 06.08.06 4:52 pm
The game looks really cool……….but hopefully nintendo will make it a good and not just a graphically good looking game like another console i know of…..(PS3) AHA!!!!! although metal gear solid 4 looks nice.
Realistic - 06.09.06 2:39 pm
Online connectivity is what Pokemon needed all along.
But I never understood the series. Like how in God’s name do they get a (supposed) 4 ton blue whale to “float” efforlessly over the battle field?
Marc - 06.11.06 7:00 pm
Andy - 06.14.06 4:40 pm
I think this game looks really cool and (like everyone else here) i hope that it will be a MMORPG! that would be so awesome! just make it good, if not don’t make us pay for it! (like monthly fees)
Jugaal - 06.17.06 2:17 pm
