This weeks podcast is a bit light on content, as we only have the news and roundtable for ya. But you’ll love it, right? Right? Otherwise I’ll have to smack you around and make you play the Virtual Boy ’till your eyes bleed. Hey wait a second… I love my Virtual Boys. Yes, both of them!

Good ol’ Virtual Boy.
Kefka - 06.05.06 9:22 am
That roundtable was an edurance run, but it was also pretty good. You guys brought up a lot of good points.
I think a lot of the failures of the recent Nintendo systems was also behind the scenes stuff. However, it is surprising how much the general public opinion can hurt a company.
I also like how Mitch said “Mc” for everything. McController… haha.
Nick - 06.05.06 10:16 am
“I love my Virtual Boys. Yes, both of them!”
Boasting much?
Stephen - 06.05.06 10:52 am
^He’s compensating for something.
Michael Tucker - 06.05.06 11:28 am
Nintendo mistakes?! What about THEIR BIGGEST mistake? The fact that Nintendo screwed over Sony who was developing a CD drive for the SNES? Sony was so mad they released the drive by themselves and called it the Playstation!?!!! Nintendo’s biggest mistake is birthing the Playstion! I think Ninntendo is reminded of this mistake everyday…
Gabe Swarr - 06.05.06 11:32 am
Yeah it is a bit of a barebone podcast this time around, but I enjoyed the Roundtable with all the points and discussions. Eagerly awaiting the next podcast guys.
PvpMan22 - 06.05.06 11:32 am
Actually… some may say Nintendo’s greatest move is giving birth to the Playstation. It developed the casual gamer and gave Nintendo competition - something always good.
zooba - 06.05.06 11:44 am
I agree that competition is good and Nintendo always kicks arse and they are by far the greatest video game company ever, but I’m pretty sure even they think they made a mistake with Sony. I think they have learned a great deal from that and have applied that knowledge in all their relationships with other companies who develop systems and create games for Nintendo.
Gabe Swarr - 06.05.06 12:12 pm
The roundtable is the part I look forward to the most. The news is usually just a rehash of things that were already posted here over the previous week.
I’m surprised though that, in the discussion of sequelitis, nobody pointed out that most Mario and Zelda (and I’m sure other) titles are often very different from their previous incarnations. Graphic styles and play control and environment are almost always different enough that you aren’t just playing a “sequel”. One of the commonest criticisms of Nintendo’s “innovation” claims is that they milk their relatively small stable of franchise for all they’re worth, but it’s always countered with examples of just how different each Mario title is, or each Zelda.
Anyway, here’s hoping the Wii is the first N console to get multiple (more than 2) Zelda titles. They could crank out a new one every 6 months, I’d be happy.
amanaplan - 06.05.06 12:21 pm
And coffeeman, you’re not the only one who liked the adventure parts of StarFox: Adventures~
TOMSTO - 06.05.06 12:52 pm
“Roundtable - Nintendo Mistakes” was very mediocre. Not the subject, but just the people didn’t seem like they had a clue what they were talking about.
573 - 06.05.06 1:43 pm
Forgot to ask: what’s the song that plays at the very end of the podcast?
573 - 06.05.06 2:12 pm
573 - So tell us what they got wrong.
amanaplan - 06.05.06 3:47 pm
@TOMSTO - Thanks
I really loved it, except it should have stayed dinosaur planet
Edgar - 06.05.06 4:26 pm
Virtual Boy kicks ass!
Freako Suave - 06.05.06 5:59 pm
amanaplan: Tell me what they didn’t. They got information on the Virtual Boy wrong, they got the old Nintendo president of 53 years name wrong numerous times, they didn’t bother mentioning piracy as one of the reasons for sticking with carts, etc. I’d have to listen to it again to point out everything. It basically seem like 50 minutes of “fap fap fap fap nintendo fap fap fap fap”.
573 - 06.05.06 6:18 pm
You guys missed alot of key points, but I found the roundtable to be etnertaining while I was working as always. BTW, StarFox Adventures actually wasn’t that bad a game. It had a fairly good story and graphics. People were just in my opinion, expecting something of the opposite when they bought it. They were wanting more flying and shooting rather than walking around on foot. Still, a very good game, and worth playing for it’s price tag.
Cameron - 06.05.06 6:40 pm
“It basically seem like 50 minutes of “fap fap fap fap nintendo fap fap fap fap””
And God forbid a Nintendo website talk about Nintendo.
Goddamn Sony Fanboy! ALL THEY DO IS POST ABOUT SONY JESUS CHRIST.
mitch - 06.05.06 8:11 pm
LOL, are we checking one on that list mitch?
Edgar - 06.05.06 8:20 pm
Mitch, Edgar, guys, next time instead of the roundtable, just recite from the relevant Wikipedia entires, ok? 573 wants hard, perfect, facts! No room for human error! Less discussion, more point-counterpoint!
amanaplan - 06.05.06 8:30 pm
it would only have been a matter of time before sony went and made their own console even if this snes CD add-on was a huge success. nintendo and sony are two very different companies who could never see eye to eye.
daisy - 06.05.06 8:35 pm
I like how the roundtable was considered “fap fap fap fap nintendo fap fap fap fap” when the guys spent 40 minutes talking about mistakes Nintendo has made.
Instead, I think we should have read this:
Why Nintendo Sucks & GAMECUBE SUCKS
We should have watched this for research: DS Sucks and taken this video to heart: Wii Will Suck
Basically every staff member and person on this site is a Nintendo Fanboy.
Nick - 06.05.06 9:07 pm
nice podcast guys, just wanna let you guys know, I bought my DSlite on monday here in new zealand, and I got the brain training demo too
really cool demo too, now I have another game to buy D:
TakaM - 06.05.06 11:52 pm
this is the first 4cr podcast for me, and i must say, i really enjoyed it. i put it on my shuffle and was listening to it at work, and i nearly chimed in and started talking when you guys started on metroid; as if i were part of the coversation of something… i totally agree with whoever said the franchise was being milked. metroid used to be something i yearned for and i lately feel now that it’s being crammed down my throat. anyway, great listen and i look forward to next week’s podcast.
ben - 06.06.06 12:42 am
Avoiding Sony liscensing wasn’t a mistake. They would have had to give up their franchises (wasn’t that part of the deal?) if they had.
duncan - 06.06.06 6:29 am
Basically Sony managed to get the rights to license games for the Nintendo CD project. This would basically defeat the purpose of Nintendo making consoles.
Nintendo then made the deal with Philips where they kept all the licensing money but Philips got to use a few Nintendo characters for their system, which brought us the horrible CD-i Zeldas and Hotel Mario.
Then there was going to be legal stuff, but all 3 agreed to a deal for the SNES CD, which was eventually cancelled.
Tox - 06.06.06 8:16 am
Virtual Boy rocks alright! I still play Wario Land on it religiously at least once a year
Props to you guys being cool about it’s uniqueness.
VIRTUALBOY - 06.06.06 8:37 am
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Raceeeeeeeeeeeeeer! xD
Well, nice podcast. Btw, Nick, I liked the DS Sucks video. I wanted to get one, but now that guy convinced me to not to. It’s a 19 year old system! xD
