Iwata has confirmed something that we have all wanted and suspected for a long time; the Wii will be able to download DS Demo’s and beam them to your DS via the Wifi.
Let’s say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii’s to their Nintendo DS’s. This will, of course, be possible in gaming stores too, but I think users will enjoy being able to do this within their homes. The key merit here is having promotional material delivered to your home, instead of having to go collect it yourself.
This is the kind of “connectivity” I hope to see from the two systems. Honestly, I don’t want to have to play on my DS to control a Wii game, like in Four Swords. However, bring able to test out small demo’s is awesome. Not only is downloading DS demo’s from home something we have all wanted, but it will probably lead me to buy more DS games… which is, of course, good for everyone.

Awesome! Now users that live in other countries (like me) will be able to have their own download station! I suspected this but it’s just amazing to see it finally confirmed.

Japanese people will have to buy a Wii now, and really if they have a DS.

YES!!!!

Haha I knew this one was coming! It’s good to see that Nintendo isn’t dropping the ball on anything. It’s funny.. they say that they didn’t listen to their customers because their customers couldn’t imagine something as awesome as the Wii being their next console, and yet everything about it is stuff we ALL CANT WAIT FOR!

Except for 5.1 surround sound.
Anyway, this is awesome stuff. But 4 swords was great, Nick!

*dances* Now just for them to announce the DS can be used as a controller for certain games too.
That is so phat, I’m gonna be able to wake up.. play some Smash Bros. with someone half way around the world and play the latest DS demos.
I really need to get WiFi for this.. I’ve been holding off for the new 802.11n standard.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I loved 4 swords. But having to run around and find my GBA SP and orginal GBA and hoping they were charged and had batteries… and then having to adjust the lighting in the room to be able to see both…it was all too much. And in a game that was about cooperation… looking down at the GBA screens actually made me feel less like I was playing with the person next to me.

Saw this coming from a mile away.
Same with Super Smash Attacks.
And… Now, the next Pokemon game will appear at TGS.

I don’t know, I wouldn’t mine some DS for Wii controll.
For example, the Bob Ross game.
Now I’m an artist, and sometimes I will spend a lot of time on the small and tiny aspects.
I would love to be able to select an area via the Pointer (wii-mote), put it down, grab my DS and Stylus, and focus on that with fine controll.
Or how about for multiplayer?
Did anyone ever play the Multiplayer Pacman game? If not you should, a lot of fun that.
One player would controll Pacman like normal.
The other three would controll the Ghosts via the Gameboy Advance (or Neo Geo Pocket if you had those and the Dreamcast), but they would only see the ghost and a small area on their GBA screen.
The DS could do that as well.
Controll small areas or focus on small portions.
There is a RTS/FPS game out there named Savage: The Battle for Newerth.
In which one player controlls the game in a RTS style, by building, resource management, etc.
The other players would play as a FPS game.
Once again, the player on Wii could controll the RTS aspect, while the DS players could act as FPS drones.

BTW, no apostrophe needed in the article title…

Good news!
Yeah, I really hope they DO use the DS’s touch screen for stuff in Wii games, like for keeping notes in Zelda or something. There are tonnes of great possibilities I couldn’t be bothered thinking of.

Luckily in Pacman Vs. on the GCN it was the other way around. The three ghost players used GCN controllers and looked at the TV while the player controlling Pacman used the GBA. Otherwise ghost players could just look at the TV and see the entire maze. It also meant that you only needed one GBA instead of three, making it a lot more accessible and much easier to set up. And just so that other people know, there were always four ghosts even if there was only one player to control the ghosts. The computer controlled ghosts would be transparent and couldn’t do anything against Pacman until they were touched by a player controlled ghost.
That game was so much fun, that if you have enough friends, it alone is reason enough to buy a GCN, two additional controllers, a GBA SP and whatever game you need to get to get Pacman Vs. (in the US I believe it was Pacman World, in Europe it was Ridge Racer). That would be what? 200 bucks? Totally worth it. Especially if you and you’re friends shared the price and each paid 50. I’m serious. Everybody needs to try this game out.

That sounds awesome! They really need to do something like this!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…or should I say WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!

HI - 06.02.06 3:27 pm
This is great!!!!!
My friends don’t plan on buying a Wii (don’t ask me, i have no idea why) but they all have a DS. Now I can charge THEM to play demos!
Thanks Nintendo. You gave me a whole new way to steal from my friends!

this just in, two different versions of wii for sale, one for $250USD that comes with a DS lite packed in, and one for $200USD for those who already own a DS.
maduin - 06.02.06 6:45 pm
This comes as no surprise, really.
What I really, really, really hope they avoid doing is making the DS a requirement for ‘unlocking’ parts of Wii games. I’ll have a DS by the time the Wii launches, but come on, it’s just not right to lock out people who don’t want or can’t afford a DS.
And the DS as a controller or supplementary interface for Wii games? Terrible idea. Anything that makes me look away from the television screen while I’m playing, even if it’s to the controller for the game, is ill-conceived.
amanaplan - 06.02.06 8:55 pm
Great news. I just need around 400€ and some patience to get Wii and Lite. And some actual games. Seeing two new zeldas makes me happy.
Dym - 06.02.06 9:27 pm
