If you guys know me at all by now, you’ll know that, given fifteen minutes alone with the Schafer in a dark, isolated room, we would probably step from the door combined as Mitch Schafer. Imagine my suprise last Friday, when Schafer himself reappeared on his action news blog to spin tales of Double Fine’s newest game on the field.
I think human language would crumble trying to describe my joy.
But, instead of mentioning the game itself, he presented his latest endeavor: a cute kitten! Oh Tim. Why won’t you adopt me? What’s the kitten got that I don’t?
Monday is a holiday, so I desperately wanted to put something new on the news page before all that time away. But I’ve got nothing. Ow. Nothing but my nose pain. Maybe if I had just one more fact. One more news item. Otherwise, I’m just going to have to start talking about our new game, or our new kitten. Oh god. Must resist news leak and kitten pictures! Ow. Must ignore nose… pain… excruciating… must not… post secrets… must not… blog… ow… nose bone pustule… swelling… tearing…
GAHHHHHHH!
Oh great. Now I’ve done BOTH.
Oh well.
Isn’t she cute?
Note on his computer, current speculation shows that the text says “Hundreds of secrets about Double Fine’s new game!” pasted over and over again. Curse you, Tim. Playing me like a deck of cards like that.
At the very least, this is good news that they’re at least not defunct after Psychonaut’s dirt-poor sales.

I want a kitten.

I really don’t understand anything anymore

I’m exhausted of viral marketing.
Kittens/secrets? Stop.
Keeko_ca - 05.31.06 3:48 pm
Kittens and a new Double Fine game? Why, that’s a damn good (and adorably cute) combination.

“I’m exhausted of viral marketing.
Kittens/secrets? Stop.”
It’s, uh, not really viral marketing. He’s just teasing people. And he has a kitten.
Viral marketing would imply something, you know, like… something. Not just a simple admission that, “Hey, we have a new game in the works!”
I never bought Psychonauts, but I played it. It was awesome. But his older stuff is better. /:

I’ve been lost for a while… just WOW… we are lacking fairy dust.
DynamicStability - 05.31.06 5:05 pm
Ya, its not speculation, that is indeed what his monitor says according to The Gimp.

Can’t a game designer have a funny, useless blog anymore without being labelled a viral marketeer?
… it sounds so … sinister. Like, suddenly I feel that I was not being entertained by reading a silly useless blog post. No — rather, my feeble little mind was being tricked into the illusion of entertainment, as I was secretly enraptured with blind devotion to an unknown cause. 4cr’s willingness to play into the Schaefer’s master plan has infected my very brain.
Psychonauts … was it just a game?
NO TIM SCHAEFER! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Jimmy - 05.31.06 6:59 pm
Who cares about a game?
Nonononono. That kitten is freakin’ CUTE. I WANT IT…
*Cries*
Game, whatever…

Unfortunately it’s more Majesco that got f*cked by that than Doublefine, from what I’ve seen. They’ve gone back to being a “value” priced publisher, rather than going after stuff like Psychonauts.
At least we’re getting Cooking Mama for $20 on DS, but it’s a shame that Majesco basically got screwed for taking a big chance on a good game (I’ve not played Advent Rising, so I cannot speak of that one).

Talking about cooking mama, when is that coming out?

I hope they release it for Nintendo’s console since they know how intelectual Xbox & Ps2 gamers are. One of the greatest, most fun, crazy and inventive game outside of Nintendo’s kingdom is Psychonauts, and had poor sales due to a lack of blood and guns. Sometimes that game was more scary than even Splatterhouse for the arcades at volume 11.

I think it might be a Cat and Mouse chase of a game. But that’s just me, I read into things too much.
laura - 06.01.06 2:41 am
This kitten if female, Mitch.
You’re just not enough of a woman to please the Double-Fine man himself.

I see what this is, a cat is a mammal…
mammal…dolphins are mammals…dolphin was the codename for the gamecube…gamecubes were in the show reboot…they were purple, like Barney…Barney the Dinosaur…Dinosaurs mean Jurrasic Park…Jurrasic Park was a Micheal Cricton novel…novels are books…librarys have books…
BY PROCESS OF ELIMINATION HE IS MAKING A GAME ABOUT A LIBRARIAN!!!!
