You might have heard about the comeback of the classic 1-Up trick in the New Super Mario Bros. game. You can get unlimited lives by repeatedly jumping on the shell of that Green Koopa walking down the steps at the end of World 2-4 (and 4-2), but hey, who said you had to work your ass off for those 1-Ups?
While there are numerous locations in NSMB where you can chain multiple jumps on Goombas, Bullet Bills, or Koopas to achieve the same result, this trick, provided by lee_n, requires no effort whatsoever. Just go to World 7-5, throw a Koopa shell in between the two Bullet Bill cannons, and sit back & relax while you earn yourself an easy 1-Up every 4 seconds.
Don’t forget to run to the flagpole before the time runs out though.

Cool
So how do I get to Level 7?
SonicRift - 05.25.06 2:11 am
Yeah, umm, there _is_ a time limit on each level, so it’s not like you can just leave it on overnight.
LunarC - 05.25.06 2:20 am
aha, I always try to find these in mario platformers, I usually find a few then I check gamefaqs or whatever and theyre already common knowledge
TakaM - 05.25.06 2:32 am
Cool…but I don’t have world 7 yet, darn.

I think it’s neat that it’s in the game, but it’s so liberal with 1-Ups to begin with that it winds up being more of a novelty than something useful. I finished the game a while back with 60 lives in reserve and have lost only a handful trying to unlock everything else so far.

I’m playing through while trying to unlock everything at the same time. I don’t wanna just beat the game - I wanna beat the shit out of it.
I am, so far, clueless on how to get to the latter two cannons (I got the first already) so I can’t get to two lower worlds yet, but at least I’ve got all the star coins so far.

One, of course, always asks the question:
Why?

You can get infinite 1ups on level 1-4 as well. Grab the red turtle shell by all the breakable blocks (before halfways point), and carry it over between the Yellow horizontal pipe and the green vertical pipe. Throw it and stand in the middle. Just jump to dodge it and it will kill the infinite goombas. Only takes like 1 minute for 25 lives or so…may save you time in the end.

As if you really need tricks to get a ton of lifes in the game anyways
, it’s cool that it’s there though.
And dean, the cannons don’t get you to the other worlds, keep looking.

Yeah, I noticed that World 7-5 trick my first time through. That means I’m cool. Right?

To anyone who wondered how to get to worlds 4 and 7:
Beat the final castles of worlds 2 and (I think) 5. Notice how there’s a weird little passageway as you run after Koopa Kid? Go back, get a mini mushroom, turn into Mini Mario, and then re-finish those levels. When you do, Mario will run through that passageway, and there you go.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that this game gives out extra lives too much (even without the above tricks). If you are actually trying to get all of the Star Coins on your first run through, the lives are a generous gift. I think NSMB is quite challenging if you try to unlock every last level and locate every last Star Coin. Good stuff. I’m tempted to use the 1-up tricks but I think I can acquire extra lives through other means (read: 1-up mushroom houses).

Nothing new to us old time Mario players but it definitely brought a smile to my face. The first thing I tried when I saw the koopa on the stairs was to get 1-ups.
Kev - 05.25.06 5:11 pm
just thought i’d mention that the newest NSMB commercial features the end of level koopa 1-up method
.

Yea this games gives away 1-Ups like nothing. You might as well just end each level with 66-55-44 in the seconds column. It’ll give you the 1-Up mushroom house and you can get a bunch there and not have to just sit on one level the whole time. You don’t need 99 lives because you can just go back to an easy level and beat it to get a 1-Up mushroom house.
