The description on the site almost makes Zero Suit Samus sound like a shape change character, ala Zelda/Sheik.

This is not all confirmed. I am sure that they will have surprise characters just like they always have. Its Nintendo we are talking about, they always have something that they haven’t revealed waiting to excite everyone!!!!!!

All I can say is that Ninty is definately doing Zero Suit Samus right and taking a page from Team Ninja with DOA. Just as long as they can get some of the physics right…heck just 10% right, then I will play with Zero Suit Samus all day.

One obvious thing to consider, since we know they are in talks with 3rd party developers about other characters is this:

We know Nobuo Uematsu, the famous final fantasy composer, is on the project doing the smash bros music. So we already have square involved, even to such a deep extent that one of the major creative minds related to the FINAL FANTASY games is working on the game. So who knows what’s possible? Cloud Strife? Squall Leonhart? Maybe a more pokemonish character a moogle or cactuar? Now that Kojima has had his request for Snake to be involved, the floodgates are open! Anything could happen.

How hilarious would it be for both Snake and Cloud, the two strongest pillars of sonys systems (not that sony have anything to do with their games) to be playable in a smash hit Nintendo game…?

Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy. Just because composers we know that worked with Square projects get involved with Nintendo games doesn’t mean Square’s gonna get involved.

Both Mario and Luigi games were composed by Yoko Shimomura who did Mario RPG as well as a lot of Square-oriented franchises like Legend of Mana and Kingdom Hearts. That doesn’t mean she’s Square’s property though.

Besides, Nobuo Uematsu left Square-Enix to go freelancing with his new company: “Smile, Please!”

I think Uematsu is more than just “a composer who worked with square projects” and is generally regarded as someone pretty deeply entwined with everything final fantasy, I’d be surprised if he never works with square again and consider him a very real connection to square for the project. That said I don’t want to contradict your point too much, the fact hes not working rhere is certainly relevant.

I’m just saying square being involved is a very real possibility, not an inevitability.

And it would be cool. There are all sorts of possibilities.

Nobuo Uematsu isn’t anywhere related to the Final Fantasy franchise or Square-Enix. I don’t know where you got the assumption that Cloud or Squall might be in this game. Also noted that some smash bros. Melee characters won’tbe there in this new installement (which is good news for me personnaly)

I think it’s safe to say if they reveal 5 new characters, there are 5 more hidden.

If they’re taking characters out, I think Dr. Mario and Pichu can be first on the chopping block. Mario’s probably my best character and Dr. Mario is pretty cool, but there’s really not a need to have two versions of the same character (with moderately different stats).

Of course, if Ganondorf is removed, I will be quite put out.

Oh, and hey, while I’m at it, one other thing I noticed:

I’m not convinced Zero Suit Samus will be playable from the outset. Rather, from the text, they’re making it sound more like they’re expanding Samus’s moveset to give her a move not unlike Zelda’s where she “changes forms”. You might be able to start out in the Zero Suit through some button combination, but from what they’re saying, she’s not one of the true “new additions”.

…Which could only mean there’s more they aren’t telling us about. I hope they do something like they did with Melee, where they introduced a new character every day and kept adding to the picture. That would be keen.

Pichu, and all other copy character should be removed.
GanonDorf need his sword back. I expect to see at least five new characters. Sonic is a possibilty also. But I rather see Captain Olimar instead. The new art direction for Wario from Warioware is awesome. They should leave it that way all the time.

Phoenix Wright would Kick @$$, but that won’t happen. Although something more realistic is instead of Kid Link, and Adult Link… Cel Link and TP Link. That would be kind of cool. I’m also holding out for Dixie Kong, a goomba, and Jazz Jackrabbit.

You’re missing the point, Uematsu is NOT Tetsuya Nomura, Yoichi Wada, Yoshinori Kitase or Hironobu Sakaguchi. He’s a composer. The previous stated are the ones who would have to express interest enough to press Nintendo into using their character. Hideo Kojima created Snake, Uematsu didn’t create Cloud.

I suppose next you’ll suggest that Shinji Mikami use Mega Man or Keiji Inafune to use Ken and Ryu.

Waluigi, Diddy Kong and Windwaker Link should make it too
