I never got around to write anything about Trauma Center: Second Opinion during E3, but seeing how very few, if any, news sites covered the whole details available about the game, I thought I could share them with my fellow rebellionites.
First, let’s tackle the gameplay elements. This time around, the stylus is replaced by the Wii Remote which’ll be used as the various operation tools: scalpel, antidote, bandage, laser, etc. Open up a patient, go crazy with his insides, stitch him back up - the classic formula. New to the Wii version is the defibrillator paddle. You’ll have to perform a “pushing” action towards the screen with the Wii controllers as if you’re shocking the chest of a patient who flat lines.
Next comes the story. One thing to note is that the game is a sort of remix of the DS version. Second Opinion’s story is split into two somewhat parallel stories. On one side, you play as Derek Stiles (with his partner Angie) following the same path found on the DS version, while on the other, you play as his rival, a new character that’ll follow a much darker story. Each doctor will have their own storyline until the later stages of the game where they will combine their forces.
The art direction is similar to what’s found on the DS. The characters will retain the same drawn anime style and the insides of your patients will keep the same cel-shaded look while using a much more detailed approach than what’s found on the portable screen.
The game is scheduled to be out this fall as a Wii launch title. Follow the links for the images and teaser trailer from E3 2006.

Something to look forward to.
Doesn’t look like it’ll have much depth though…

I’m so getting this for launch, if its half as good as the DS version it should be a great game. Lets hope its just as hard as well. The DS version is without a doubt one of the hardest DS games I have played thus far.

A good idea for this Trauma Center would be to have a mode where you have a second player play the nurse. You would have to ask her for the right utensil and would have to work really well together to have her get you the right tools fast enough.
Maybe even get your female friends to dress in nurses uniforms

@John - What a great idea!!!!
the dressing part. I don’t care if she plays or not

I wonder if they are making it cell-shaded because of the blood/rating issue. I think that if they had realistic blood and guts they should make it at most Teen because there isnt really any violence. I also wonder if the charecter with a darker storyline will have to make alleyway abortions

Can’t say I’m quite as into this as the DS version. While the DS version left me a bit cold once I heard it was going to be more of a puzzle game than a pseduo-realistic sim (ala Life and Death) the controls made more sense. Yes, you can point with the Wii, but I think that the DS’s pen input is much more appropriate.
This might be fun, but the DS version really seemed to feel like someone had thought about it a bit and come up with a really original and interesting use for the touch screen. If only they’d used the microphone to let you switch tools.

This may seem weird, but I’m glad on two fronts. First, the graphics look pretty cool - not gory, but better than the DS’s graphics.
Second, Angie actually looks like an adult. I was always a little weirded out that the DS version has a 12 year old girl as your nurse - here, she looks like she could be a 20 year old (OK, so she was in a really advanced nursing school after getting a degree at 16, or - something). But she looks like a grown up, not your typical screaming 12 year old anime character.
My last question is about the interface. If you’re allowed to use the Wii remote horizontally (imagining the body laid in front of you on a table, for example), then the game will seem pretty realistic (since you’ll be able to see your tools on the screen, perhaps imagining you’re operating via robot - well, save for the “magic touch”). But if you have to use it vertically, then I can see my arm becoming tired rather quickly.
Either way, I plan on picking it up. Looks like it could be an interesting title.

I’m with John on the interaction. Either way, I hope to pick up this title when I pick up my Wii. I still haven’t beaten the first one. Man it’s hard. I just got to near the end(I’m probably on the last one) and my mind and hand just gave up trying to keep up.
