I’m not going to come out and say that you’re a jerk if you haven’t either bought or at least made plans to buy the New Super Mario Bros. game. Let’s just say that if I happen to hear someone call you a jerk, I’m not gonna be the guy who denies it. It’s nothing personal. It’s strictly Mario business.

Japan’s commercial for New Super Mario Bros. follows Nintendo’s trend towards putting as much emphasis on the player as they are on the game. The 30-second spot features more camera time on the woman playing than on the actual gameplay! Nintendo of Japan has put up several similar videos showing a variety of people trying out the game and having a lot of fun with it.

What about the folks who don’t just want to play the game, but want to actually live out the Mario experience? I propose a trip to the unofficial “Nintendo Amusement Park (Beta)”. Armed with a power-assist harness and a ridiculous mustache, you’ll be able to jump your way through a real life obstacle course themed after classic Mario level design. From the looks of the demo video, breaking your arm after a mistimed jump seems just as likely as fulfilling your platformer dreams.
