We’re back from E3 and it’s time to get this podcast ball rolling again. Nick Rumas is still hanging out in the US, but we managed to get together to talk about E3 in the news. After that, Benny, Edgar and Michael give us some quick impressions of their E3 experience.
This podcast also sees the return of Vinnk as he finally makes his way back to Japan and reflects on his time spent in the US. And then I have a short E3 edition of The Lightbox, talking about what comic related goodies I saw at the show.
Finally, we have the debut of the video game band, Thesaurus Rex. For their debut we get their amazing first single, Pyramid of Sand.
It’s good to be back. Enjoy this short, but jam packed podcast!

sweet. downloading now. i was wondering if there was going to be a podcast this week. good job, guys!
jodyanthony - 05.15.06 10:10 am
definitely one of the best podcasts we’ve had in a while. thesaurus rex, rebel in america, and everything else was fantastic. i love the dancing bear analogy and even grinned when i heard the stupid e3 joke.
great to hear mouse guard mentioned. the crab fight was awesome. batman year 100 has also been excellent. those two titles, fables, daredevil, dmz, the ultimates, and “civil war,” have outpaced my anticipation for the usual issues i pick up (Y, Walking Dead).

Anyone know why I’m not seeing the newest update with iTunes?
Michael McGuire - 05.15.06 10:52 am
The iTunes feed is working just fine. At least on my end. So, not sure what problems you are having.
Nick - 05.15.06 10:54 am
Yeah, it’s definitely on my end. When I look at the RSS XML feed, I can see the listing, but iTunes is reporting a network error trying to update the podcast. I guess I need to look further.
Thanks though.

speaking of good comics (although these are actually graphic novels)

and

both of those books are incredible, and well worth the money.

Hey Vinnk; sounds like in Europe (or at least in the Netherlands) games tend to be more expensive than in Japan. And by quite a bit actually. Most console games are around 60 euros (~77 dollars) and GBA and DS games are generally around 45 euros (~57 dollars). But hey, at least Europe gets most of their games in many different languages.
perdevious - 05.15.06 11:31 am
Wow - fast podcast! Great work, guys!
Sideath - 05.15.06 11:33 am
Nex gamecube games are about $65 here and Games like Final Fantast came out at over $80. The $45 for for DS games. Yet I keep buying them..
Vinnk - 05.15.06 11:34 am
Great podcast guys, especially since you’re probably suffering from severe sleep deprivation.
Thesaurus Rex wasn’t all that great though, IMO.
AdamBot - 05.15.06 11:47 am
Fook you, they wuz awesome
EPIPHANY - 05.15.06 12:08 pm
Nice podcast guys
MMaRsu - 05.15.06 12:14 pm
i think they need to redo the song. it’s no longer called the revolution. (unless i just didnt hear them mention “Wii.” I definately heard “revolution” a few times though.)
the song was ok, nothing incredible, but nothing to really scoff at. it’s good to hear a video game band that is actually about video games, not just redoing the same NES music that all of them do. I mean sure, the main song from metroid is good, but do i have to hear 5 different bands do it? same with castlevania.
I think we all know the minibosses are the best when it comes to that. I wish they’d come back to chicago.
jodyanthony - 05.15.06 12:21 pm
That joke was so lame.. I declare it as the most stupid, most lame, most I-want-to-bang-my-head-in-the-wall joke!
KimiSan - 05.15.06 12:24 pm
…I hate Javascript…
Oh yeah, seriously you all could make some good dinero for the site if you sold 4cr T-shirts…
EPIPHANY - 05.15.06 12:29 pm
When I was in Osaka I didn’t catch on right away just how expensive everything is. The last time I’d held a bill with three 0s on it was in Korea about 13 years ago, so I’m holding a 1,000 en note, which is $10, and my brain is thinking 1,000 won, which is more like $1.
amanaplan - 05.15.06 1:07 pm
What about the skypecast??!?
Naveed - 05.15.06 2:42 pm
I’ll be sure to download this as soon as I get home
bwntcake - 05.15.06 2:45 pm
Can we get the lyrics fo rPyramid of Sand - Thesaurus Rex?
Naveed - 05.15.06 3:29 pm
It’s just not the same without a roundtable!
amanaplan - 05.15.06 5:20 pm
Pyramid of Sand Lyrics:
I hold you in my hand, I move your knob, I press you
No one understands, I grasp you, I caress you
My heart not my own, I’m seeking the containers
This place is my home, I leave… be with you later
There was a time when I was just a boy
Opting for turbo, I took the advantage
Then SuperNES came, pressed you on your shoulders
Finally I bought the 64!
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
Into the Pyramid of Sand
I grasp the Bob-omb, I toss him off the mountain
I seek the princess, I meet her by the fountain
As a last resort, I play my ocarina
The 2nd sequel: The Isle of Delphino
There was a time when everything was 2-D
There was a time when everything was new
There is a world hidden beneath the ocean
Moving through time I grasp the 64!
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
Into the Pyramid of Sand
Overly cryptic mystery controller
Submit your mock-up; no, I don’t believe
Smiling Iwata, Growing Regginator
Revolution is real, revolution is real
revolution is real; beyond the 64!
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
Revolution in my hand, my hand, my hand
A new controller in my hand, my hand, my hand
3 dimensions in my hand, my hand, my hand
octorok - 05.15.06 5:59 pm
Wow, Nice podcast and glad you guys enjoyed yourselves there
I especially liked your own takes of what you liked there
Anyways nice podcast and too bad you guys couldn’t get a roundtable going over there…O I am very curious of how responsive the controller, because again there are conflicting reviews of how well the controller responded to your movements. I obvious know that you love it but maybe you can have a more indepth review of how the controller responded to the different games you demo-ed, thanks if you can.
PvpMan22 - 05.15.06 6:47 pm
nice to see that someone else plays a keyboard with their eyeball

Vinnk - 05.15.06 10:42 pm
nice podcast guys, it wouldve been really interesting hearing a podcast when you were all actually in the same room, still great to listen to
TakaM - 05.15.06 11:20 pm
LMAO vinnk makes me laugh
yeah, we australians DO get screwed, damn you rest of the world!!!
cameron - 05.17.06 1:31 am
Thesaurus Rex was great. If others don’t think so, just give them time. Those beats were tight, yo.
I enjoy niche bands, but I hope they don’t stick to video game tributes and branch out into other equally-rewarding inanity. With the right direction, I could see Rex taking its place alongside my Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants collections.
