You guys have to know me too well by now - when this Mother 3 news hit the scene at Starmen.net, I was probably one of the first dudes to hear about it. I’m so psyched for this game that really, I’ve actually managed to meld my own mind into the essense of the game itself. So in a sense, I am Mother 3.
But hey, here’s some great news in time for E3.
I held off on posting this immediately because, in all respects, it’s a pretty shoddy article to begin with. They call the main character ‘Tess’, and even go so far as to not even reading a synopsis of the game itself — but it’s forgivable. The news appeared in the Official Nintendo Magazine for the UK, and hints at a December Europe-only release. I have my doubts, but here’s to hoping.

umm… I think “Tess” is a typo, in Super smash bros. Eur version his name is “Ness”. Now is Mother 3, Earthbound 2?
I though it would have been Earthbound 3. Then again I have no idea how the series works.

Yeah!! Eat that 4cr with your “Euro ppl live in caves” feel the wrath!!!!!!!
I’ll let you know when my copy arrives! Yabbadabbadooooo!
:)

i have huge doubts with that “article”.. why would it be announced in this low-level way? more likely they are writing about a large jap release of a game who’s prequel had an english language release..
boaby - 05.12.06 8:00 pm
TK-Linx apparently you don’t know the first thing about Earthbound/Mother.
Have you even played the games?
I’ll explain it to you.
The game started in Japan on the NES with a game called Mother.
The sequel was on the SNES called Mother 2.
In America the SNES version was relesed (Mother 2) renamed Earthbound. Mother was never released in America.
Eventually Mother was translated; and ofcourse called Earthbound 0 in America.
If there will be a North American release of Mother 3; it will be called Earthbound 2 in America.
Now about the characters. In Earthbound the main character is Ness; and the previous main character before him was called Ninten. If you look; both have nintendo similar names.
If the main character were to be called “Tess” for Mother 3… then it would seem stupid as the pattern would be broken.

Yeah, I was chatting up a lady from Nintendo Power today and she said it really doesn’t look like they’re bringing over Mother 3.
Nick - 05.12.06 8:14 pm
All you have to do is import it since its region free, just an extra 10 bucks you have to pay
Linkthelegend2 - 05.12.06 8:46 pm
You’re crazy Mitch
. You and your Earthbound 2 news everytime
MMaRsu - 05.12.06 8:50 pm
Apparently my news submission never made it yesterday
No credit for 10K.
Anyway, the article doesn’t look like any research was put into it. I think it was a preemptive article written way before E3, assuming that there would be a NA release, and logically, a EU release.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s coming out anywhere other than Japan, since apparently, Earthbound is the only version of any Mother game released outside of Japan, and it only came out in the US.
Lame. I really, really don’t want to go for the alternative, but Nintendo’s going to have to get there act together soon if they don’t want that to happen.
Also, with the current trend of phasing out the GCN and the GBA, a NA release looks bleak
Oh, well.
Rynen10K - 05.12.06 9:04 pm
If they do, well, thank goodness handhelds are region-free.
If they don’t… there’s always fanslations.
Jacob - 05.12.06 9:23 pm
Oh we wait so long and now this!?!?!?
Nintendofreak - 05.12.06 9:35 pm
Whatever Mitch, did you spend an entire day in middle school killing star man supers to get poo’s sword of kings?
DynaStab - 05.12.06 10:47 pm
Actually I’m pretty sure the main character in Mother was un-named. There’s no auto-name feature like in Earthbound, so I don’t understand where this “Ninten” name came from.
Steven - 05.12.06 10:59 pm
Ah…could it be that this was a UK Nintendo Power?
Kristofor - 05.13.06 12:20 am
Well, at least importing from other latin speaking countries will be better than Japanese! I’d get the German Eb2, it’d totally help me with the class (German class that is). How do they localize in Europe anyways, do they do like a million different languages or what?
Goob - 05.13.06 1:17 am
Haha! Yes! Europe wins!
duncan - 05.13.06 3:09 am
Goob, relocation here by Nintendo is usually done in English, German, French, Spanish & Italian text.
Call me crazy, but I have this bad feeling it’ll turn out this is about Mother 2. I’m sure the game’s audience is niche, but it’s not a small audience, so why would they announce it so low-key?
Supa - 05.13.06 5:47 am
Thanks Sinnen. It’s true, I’ve never played a Mother/ Earthbound Game.
TK-Linx - 05.13.06 5:49 am
It’s pretty retarded to say, “Oh look it’s Ness,” about Mother 3. I’m pretty far into it, but even from opening naming screen you learn that there are twin boys, blond Lucas and redhead Claus. There is a dark haired boy who looks kind of like Ness… …except his name is Fuel and he’s an NPC. Not even a particularly important one either.
Carl - 05.13.06 8:56 am
it could be in line with making nintendo worldwide company. e.g. they released zelda: minish cap in europe first. and this could be a real big sorry for never releasing earthbound/ mother in europe. the first time they are going to be released is with the virtual console, if at all!
and i can’t imagine Official nintendo magazine UK making such a big blooper.
kinda looking forward to it but also realising that i might never get to play earthbound on the virtual console if it’s region specific. because they don’t have earthbound translated already for the european market.
but yeay… europe is getting it’s first mother game. and the world’s last.
Stephen Crowley - 05.13.06 8:58 am
If the lack of a Mother 3 us release worries you, be sure to voice your opinion on the Nintendo Power forums as well as email Nintendo directly on this. We can make it happen, I am absolutely certain of this, but we need to work together.

Joey - 05.13.06 9:21 am
Ness isn’t a character in Mother 3 at all; the main character in Mother 3 (Japanese version) is Claus. I presume that for the European release, they changed the main character’s name to Tess for whatever crazy reason they thought of.
dragon_feces - 05.13.06 1:21 pm
Well, I’d say: great news!
[MaSQuE] - 05.13.06 2:42 pm
If you guys actually READ the article, “Tess” isn’t the name of the new character. They were talking about Ness’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. and they made a typo. Calm down.
Thores - 05.13.06 4:45 pm
They made no typo! There’s a Tess trophy in Melee. It talks about Mother 3 and stuff in the decription. That’s what they are most deffinatly talking about.
Match - 05.14.06 12:26 am
Ho-ly S***. I can’t believe it, If it’s not coming to america, It’s import city for me!
vgamer1 - 05.14.06 11:26 pm
The main character of Mother 3 isn’t Claus — it’s Lucas. The blonde-haired one.
