Tomorrow, May 6th, is a glorious day that happens once a year; Free Comic Book Day! Hooray!
On this wonderful day any and everybody can walk into their local comic book store and get at least one free comic. If your store is cool (and they have large supplies) you can probably get more than one.
Titles from almost all the comic publishers will be available. Titles like X-Men, Conan, Bongo, Transformers, Scott Pilgrim and more. Surely you can find some time in your day to swing by your neglected comic book shop and grab a nice freebie!

Oh shoot, I knew there was something I was forgetting to tell everyone during the Skypecast today!
Oh well, happy hunting everyone.

Dont forget about creator signings

Definitely getting the X-Men/Runaways crossover, though it’s kind of a bummer that the actual story is only 11 pages long, followed by a bunch of rehashed material from older comics. Oh well.

My favorite day of the year!
Even though there is a unscrupulous comic shop near me that tries to sell the issues from previous years for a couple bucks even thoug they say “not for resale” right on the cover. i may have to go antagonize them about that.

my store is cool. i always leave with a stack.

Wow it’s free comic book day already! This year’s gone by fast!
Im probably getting the Transformers one (oh god, Transformers=Best Toy ever) and maybe the TokyoPop manga one. Ive always prefered manga, i guess its just the style. THere is some good north amrican stuff though, and my local “pop culture” store,Gemini JetPack lets people publish their own manga. The owners so cool too, he has DS and plays animal crossing all the time!

I did this once about 2 years ago I think. I don’t know if I’ll bother to go tomorrow.
Also, it looks like Bill Morrison will be at one of the shops in my city. I don’t care about comics at all and I don’t know if he is a big deal, but if you care, Nick, I’d be more than happy to have him sign something and send it to you.
I don’t know.

I was going to have to smack you if you forgot to announce this.

My friend and I are hitting 5 Toronto shops tomorrow to get the spread. Most places here limit your loot to 2-3 titles.
I’m a bit disappointed by this year’s selection, to be honest.

Nova Scotia is listed as a different country for some reason.

Wow. Ray’s Mini Video in Elmwood Park, IL is having signings by the governor of Elmwork Park Village Circle Park. Awesome.
I cannot believe there’s not a single damn thing in Chicago, especially when we have Graham Cracker Comics.

i’ve been looking forward to this all year.
mreddy1 - 05.05.06 3:30 pm
Do you think stores like Boarders, or Barnesnobles would have some kinda free comic giveaway?
Naveed - 05.05.06 4:32 pm
Sincerely doubt it.
DCSimian - 05.05.06 4:49 pm
Ill personally be picking up Xmen/Runaways, StarWars/Conan, and Tokyopop

If this year is anything like the last 3, I’ll be getting a huge sheaf of free comics in my next shipment from Mile High.
Haven’t set foot in a brick and mortar comic book store in almost a decade (never could stand their disorganization or their employees, at least around here) but I buy a lot of comics through MH and it’s nice to know they share the love with us mail order cowards.

Barnes and Noble doesn’t even carry indivual issues, so that’s a no. Borders does, but they often get them in late and only bother with the most popular sedries.
So to further dcsimian, I’d just right out say “no”.

Went down to my comic book store…. no free comics : (
Greg - 05.06.06 11:56 am
Really? Wow, that sucks. I went to my comic store today and they had boxes and boxes of them. It was also the most packed Ive ever seen the store. You could take as many free comics as you wanted. Excellent. I got one of each.
Nick - 05.06.06 5:33 pm
Last year at Silver Snail, all the graphic novels were half price. This year, what do I get? Tokyo Pop Sneaks.
I hate Free Comic Book Day. It’s getting crappier every year.
Momus - 05.06.06 7:55 pm
I got like a bag of 7 comic books plus a manga book! Happay Free Comic book Day!
Wii will wii will rock you! - 05.06.06 9:43 pm
Three different kinds at my library, got the last Star Wars one. Couldn’t get over to Granite City Comics.
Tom - 05.06.06 10:14 pm
I got The Preposterous Voyages of Ironhide Tom! and its awesome
NEEKS - 05.07.06 10:46 am
Momus - did you get the Silver Snail 30th Anniversary custom Mike Mignola poster? I think that more than makes up for it! Hell, they could have given out mandatory free kicks to the gut, as long as I got that poster.
I was really disappointed when I went to Grey Region and Hairy Tarantula. What’s going through their heads when they decide not to support Free Comic Book day?
3rd Quadrant and Silver Snail and the Beguiling were sports, at least.
