In his recent CNN Money interview, Iwata hinted that consumers will have a great amount of freedom when it comes to storage for Revolution. Great news, and something I’ve been hoping for for ages. I was really worried that we’d only be able to expand upon the built-in Flash memory with expensive SD cards, but it’s looking like Nintendo will be giving us the freedom to plug any memory device, including an external hard drive, into the USB port to store content at will. From the article:
The Revolution has 512 MB of flash memory, allowing for some initial storage space. The system also has a slot for SD memory cards, which are widely used in digital cameras and can hold a greater amount of data. Most importantly, Iwata mentioned, were the USB ports that are built into the Revolution “so practically any storage method can be used”.
Awesome if true. I’ve got quite a few flash-based devices around, but no SD cards, and it’s really cool to know that I won’t have to start emptying my pockets once I fill up the onboard memory.
