In a recent job posting at GameDev.net the cat was let out of the bag that Will Wright’s Spore is heading to handhelds. Which handhelds? It doesn’t say, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the DS is included! They brought the Sims over, so it is certainly a possibility.
Spore, being the brainchild of Wright is hard to explain, yet very simple in theory. Let’s see how succinct I can be. Basically, you start off as some sort of single celled organism swimming around in a primordial ocean and evolve your way to the top. Eventually you will control an entire group of creatures that have banded together. Then you control their technological and intellectual growth, eventually building a UFO and launching off the planet on which life began.
In other hands I would think such a lofty concept was destined for failure, but with Wright as the wizard behind the curtain I have much faith in the game. I can’t wait to get my hands on Spore for both the PC and hopefully a DS version. I would be especially interesting to see how much they change and adapt the game structure to work on the DS.
And if you haven’t seen it before, check out the site for the game. I absolutely love that intro movie.
Update Check out a 35 min long video demonstration of Spore here.
