Life of Pi Illustration Competition
Holy sweet mother of a little kid stuck on a rowboat with a full grown man eating Bengal tiger… why didn’t someone tell me about this! Surfing around the net tonight I came across an illustration competition for the upcoming Life of Pi illustrated book! I didn’t even know there was an upcoming Life of Pi illustrated book!
I’ve spoken about my love for Life of Pi in the past. Truly one of my favorite books of all time. If you haven’t read it I suggest you go out and pick up a copy right now. It’s a loner-adventure book, along the lines of Lord of the Flies, Master & Commander and Heart of Darkness.
So, a new illustrated version of the book is coming out (which will be mine, oh yes it will) and Yann Martel and his publisher decided to do a public search and competition for the contract to illustrate the book. Not only will the winner get to work on the book, but they will also get a fat paycheck; over $10,000.
The voting has been narrowed down to 15 illustrators and now they will be asked to each submit three more pieces. The final winner will be announced in April. I’ll keep my eye on this competition and let you all know how it turns out. So far all 15 of the entries look fantastic. Really, the main reason I picked up the book in the first place was because the cover had a sweet illustration with a tiger on it. So glad I did.
