We all know you love your DS with a motherly passion - and that’s entirely justified. It’s a great system, with a lot of great games. But, did you ever get that crazy idea that, maybe, it could be used for a whole lot more?
Well, thanks to some industrious homebrew developers, you can control your computer (and emulators!) with your DS - completely lag free. No, it’s true. The future is now!
Homebrew developer spyherce spent many lonely nights whipping up his latest creation, DS2key, which is a server / client couple designed to transmit the button input from the DS and input them as keypresses on a computer’s keyboard - perfect for whatever games you might want to play. DS2key takes advantage of Steven Stair’s wifilib, so not only can you play Bubble Bath Babes on your favorite system, but you can even do it from 20 or 30 feet from your computer! Need more proof? Check out this video.
That’s not all, either - perhaps you’ve asked yourself the age-old question of, “Well, I have a touch screen. Why in the world do I need a mouse?” Sintax, another homebrew developer gaining popularity in the DS Homebrew scene, has whipped up a quiet little server / client couple using sgstair’s wifilib that allows you to poke your DS’s screen, and watch in awe as that little white pointer dances around the machine.
Remember, to use these, you’re still going to need to have your DS homebrew-capable. That means, you’re going to need either a flashed DS (or a PassMe) and a storage device!

My PassMe and I are on this RIGHT NOW…

^^ Check this baby out, control your pc via DS, and view the action on your DS! n___N
I’m planning to start developing for the DS soon, so in order to do that (and not void my warranty), I’m gonna have to buy a PassKey 2 and a M3 Adapter. Can’t wait ’till I get this stuff in the mail! n__N

I will only believe this if the DS and the Computer were in the same screen.
KJA - 01.21.06 6:19 pm
You can believe it…it’s an early build but it does work. just as described in the readme. It’s more of a glimpse of what the future has in store for us in the homebrew scene. great stuff.

Absolutely amazing! I love the internet!

This works amazingly. Was able to lay back on my bed and control ZSNEs with it. The range is for as far as your WiFi signal range is for both apps, and both work great. Although in Super Metroid it seemed that every 45 seconds or so I couldnt control samus for about 1-2 seconds. My battery was almost dead, so it could be that or the rom I was using. Micheal Jordan in the Windy City works great, though.

I’d love to see something like this come out from Nintendo or a 3rd party developer, as the only people who can really use this (aside from the dedicated homebrew developers themselves) are people who 9 our of 10 times have the required gear because they didn’t think Mario Kart DS and Castlevania were worth the money, but love the games all the same. If somehow the needed software could be sent to the DSs flashable memory instead of requiring passme/wifime and a gba rom cart, well, many more people who take advantage and download the homeb brew… if it is possible that is.

Your NES games can run on Gameboy Advance hardware, yeah - but GBA ROM flashing is still quite illegal. Don’t do it.
So shhhh.
Mitch - 01.21.06 8:35 pm
Woah, awsome!
Krono6 - 01.21.06 9:33 pm
NookBay is down as we speak.
Luigi - 01.21.06 10:47 pm
Its not illegal to download the roms, flash the roms, or even own the software/hardware to run the roms. Its sharing the roms on the intertron thats wrong, boys and girls :O

Not only are ds games great, but the Homebrew are even greater. At least the brewers have ideas and distribute it for free. for me this is priceless.
I would love to use my DS like a walcom tablet.
eom - 01.21.06 10:49 pm
*wacom
And yes, when I saw this, it just screamed to me, “Wacom tablet!”

No wonder why it didn’t work. I didn’t have a flash card. ¬_¬
Zomg - 01.22.06 3:03 am
Apparently someone else is working for another wifi chipset:
http://members.fortunecity.com/infinityhq/dsdev/dsdev.html
Unlike the PSP with built-in memory stick support and usb connection to the PC, DS will not have the same thriving mod community as its too tedious and too complicated to make it work. UNLESS someone can support all major wifi chipset out there and stream the apps or games for instant gratification.
By putting the DS on standby and not turning it off, you can basically have 4mb worth of game/app running in the ram forever!
I can envisioned a wireless DS server in the future that you can run on your own pc to upload software onto the DS.

i know im a n00b, but how do i flash a DS?
it sounds like it doesnt require anything, and i need to learn how to run homebrew on my ds without having to buy anything
i have wifi router and everything i need
know any support forums for flashing or somtething?
anony - 01.22.06 7:32 am
Hi Anony,
If you have a wireless card that has RT2500 or RT2560 chipset, then you are in luck. Else, you will have to wait for someone to support your wifi card.
It is true, if you have a RT wifi adaptor you don’t need anything else, all you need is to install the modified driver to fool the DS into thinking that your PC is a demo-station and it will download the homebrew to your DS. As long as the software + roms and whatever else you download is less than 4mb, it will fit in the DS’s ram.

What kind of hardware does my PC need for this? Will any W-Lan card work alright, or does it only work for certain cards?
Sagan - 01.22.06 10:14 am
Click the link to see the list of supported wifi card:
http://ralink.rapla.net/
If your card is listed, then good for you! Or else, wait for some genius to figure out how to do it with other cards.
Chris - 01.22.06 10:56 am
Am I the only one how can’t make it work ?
I’ve put the program on my backup card than I can’t do anything with the program …
Nicol@s - 01.22.06 12:37 pm
In order to flash your DS, you NEED A FLASH CARD.
No exceptions, sorry.
Mitch - 01.22.06 1:08 pm
Thx for the link @ Chris
Sagan - 01.22.06 4:08 pm
This is very nice, I havn’t been able to use it yet(with the absence of the flash card to blame,) so I’m just wondering which flash card do I need to buy. I have the proper wifi card but not the flash card. So if anyone is willing to help me, that would be awsome. Thanks.
geffers - 01.22.06 6:00 pm
I’ve seen both of these, and have been trying for over an hour to get them to work, but with no luck.
Perhaps I’m overlooking something obvious?
Anyone care to hold my hand through this one?
Zork - 01.22.06 6:51 pm
So I guess the Nintendo Wifi adapter won’t work with this…?
Zomg - 01.23.06 2:49 am
“So I guess the Nintendo Wifi adapter won’t work with this…?
Zomg - 01.23.06 2:49 am”
only because it is a UBS device
even though it has a RT25XX chipset (2571 to be exact)
the custom drivers only work with PCI and PCMCIA cards
