Canadian Invasion! Coffeeman tries to take over the podcast this week by subbing in for Nick Rumas with me on the news and then conducting an interview with Alias Zero of HelloDS.
We also have a roundtable discussing the complexity of games, although we primarily deal with it in a user interface (controller) aspect. Finally, DSgamer21 returns with a classic Tetris piano tune for us!

Another great Podcast!
A big hello to Coffeeman! Cool to see you have a Quebecer on your team!
An example of control complexity for me would be the controls in Metroid Prime Echoes. There were boss battles where my fingers ached from the stiff shoulder buttons!
Keep up the good work, your site brings maturity and intelligence that is lacking from the other gaming sites!

geez…i want this 7 times a week.
on to bashing: sega did 6 button pads and sony did dual analogoe stick. blame them for complex controls. really.
ppl will go crazy for simple nes games on revolution. xbox 360 killer app?
simple arcade games.
where is the real money made in the videogames industry? (totally in the dark and no one talking about it): simple puzzle games. (mostly on pc - shareware style…yes…women play that a lot.)
again…i like my jungle beat and yoshi touch and go!
cycle - 01.16.06 11:13 am
Thank God it’s monday!
btw: DSgamer21 i STILL want a Mario Kart rematch!
wes - 01.16.06 11:41 am
Great show as always. Pity about no RiJ, but hey, I don’t mind as Tetris is my favorite game ever.

About pausing to inventory screen - you really get accustomed to it, but overall it sucks. That’s one of the advantages of PC-games - you have so many buttons, that in most games you don’t have to pause. Just press a key and the weapon will change. And if a game really requires an inventory you are usually fast enough with the mouse that it isn’t necessary to pause the game. Example would be Diablo 2. (oh and that’s btw one of the ways to tell a PC game which got codeveloped for console - does it pause when it isn’t necessary?)
Oh and about Mario 64 having easy control: I remember that back when it was new, I watched some child play it in a mall, and he was at the very beginning: He entered the castle, and the camera was pointed towards Mario. He pushed up again, thus Mario walked towards the door and walked out again. He walked in again, and out again, and in again, and out again etc. After a short while he got sick of it because he didn’t know how to continue. But I was happy because I was next in line
.
About developers accustoming to less buttons: I bet there will be alot of those “combos” for Revolution games. Like “press B to use, hold A then press B to investigate, press A to pick up, hold B then press A to destroy”. But I guess over time, when developers learn to program an interface for the Revolution controller that will be lesser.

By the by, Octorok, Tetris A is for the GB mono version - I remember getting the NES version and becoming really pissed because it didn’t have the song in it

I still have to listen to the podcast. I hate when I wake up after everyone here, jeez. Oh yes, you guys should switch up the news every now and then. Maybe Mitch next time?
buddha1227 - 01.16.06 2:11 pm
Good podcast yet agian! But I think the words everyone was trying to find to describe the revolution and contoller is something along the lines of “more funtionality and input with less buttons”.
NPC - 01.16.06 2:44 pm
Wait, I just listened to everything, where is Rebel In Japan! It just isn’t the same
buddha1227 - 01.16.06 2:45 pm
Thanks again Boon!!

Please… somebody tell me what the music is during the news? It’s driving my crazy with its familiarity….
JDavis - 01.16.06 7:24 pm
…and if it’s not too much trouble, what’s the name of that awesome theme music at the very start of the show, and where can I download it? Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn’t find the answer anywhere on the site.
Thanks, keep up the good work!
Brian - 01.16.06 9:01 pm
Brian, that theme song was written by my friend Marco (Rev). It was a remix tune from Wizards & Warriors.
For a cool tune by Marco check out this. Its a Metroid tune. Great stuff.

Dude, the podcast always skip for me. Escpecailly during the roundtable. And on my Mp3 player.
yanipheonu - 01.16.06 9:38 pm
Yes! Thank you!
JDavis - 01.16.06 9:52 pm
Yanipheonu…I wonder what the problem is. I finally got to listen to the podcast on an iPod and it works perfectly. The way we are encoding the podcasts now works for everything I have tried.
This podcast had some jumpy audio in the roundtable (most notably on Octoroks parts). Hopefully that is what you mean by skipping.
Nick - 01.16.06 10:32 pm
Well, on WMP it works fine, but on my mp3 player, it seems to skip ahead randomly sometimes. And it doesnt happen with the older podcasts i have on it.
yanipheonu - 01.16.06 10:42 pm
great podcast. u gotta set up a donation fund to get oktorok a decent mic XP
TakaM - 01.16.06 11:48 pm
