Let me be the first to say “W00T!”.
Tetris, the all time favorite falling block puzzle game, is now making its way to your DS on March 20th and will be online ready through Nintendo WiFi Connection services. Nintendo disclosed the big news today via a press release in which some details were revealed. Online ranking, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid themed playfields, single cart multiplay, 10 players local matches and 2 or 4 players online battles.
More details should emerge soon, as we are only 2 months away from this new WFC compatible title from Nintendo.
Update: Nintendo has now released 2 official screenshots of the game in action. Looks like we’ll get something similar to TetriNet items and the ability to design our own avatars.

As long as it is more Tetris DX than Tetris Worlds, I’m sold.
DeeMer - 01.10.06 2:27 pm
Jesus. That sounds awesome. TetriNet on the DS.
BigJKO - 01.10.06 2:29 pm
2 words…
KILLER APP!
EB - 01.10.06 2:32 pm
The wife is gonna love this!
Tony Mora - 01.10.06 2:33 pm
It will definitely sell DS systems!
David - 01.10.06 2:35 pm
I cant figure how the touch screen will work
Jacomar - 01.10.06 2:45 pm
Good news!
[MaSQuE] - 01.10.06 2:52 pm
Jacomar:
My guess:
Touch a piece to rotate it, and drag it around to place it.
Kreven - 01.10.06 2:57 pm
Why use the touch screen at all? /:
Too bad it’s not Meteos 2. Tetris is great single-player, and okay multiplayer. But Meteos excelled in multiplayer. Hm, oh well.
TheOneGuy - 01.10.06 3:04 pm
this is insanely cool. this is going to be a great wifi game! i didnt see this one coming at all. wow
jason - 01.10.06 3:19 pm
I love the idea of the themed playfields. This is going to be a great game.
Luke314pi - 01.10.06 3:24 pm
if only this was about Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon/Pokemon Puzzle League. tetris is fun, but lacks the multiplayer depth that tetris attack does.
simon - 01.10.06 4:03 pm
wow yes, one of my most anticipated Ds game. And the themed playfields seems quite nice.
blue boy - 01.10.06 4:03 pm
Would not pay above half the retail of a typical DS for this game.
However many themes and mini games they bundle with it.
Spence - 01.10.06 4:15 pm
Yes!
Boots - 01.10.06 4:43 pm
Awesome! Tetris AND Metroid Prime Hunters, March 20th is going to be a great day!
Heltron - 01.10.06 4:49 pm
The screenshots confuse me but hey, every good portable platform must have Tetris in some form.
[MaSQuE] - 01.10.06 5:01 pm
It’s too bad that they only have 4 players of online play. I could just imagine the great times that would be had with 10 players online…sigh…can’t help but feel that MP:Hunters will only have 4 players (was looking forward to a min of eight)…
But, i’m still keeping my fingers crossed…
lone.nt - 01.10.06 5:09 pm
lemme be second to say “W00T!”
on the second screenshot, it shows mario on top, does it play some kind of video coresponding to how well you are playing?
Mannie[Ghost] - 01.10.06 5:25 pm
ooops, pressed twice
but there’s only seven hunters…
lemme take this opportunity to say
Metroid should be at least 8 players, Nintendo should know the importance of that,
even if they dont, MP2 multiplayer was still fun…right..?
Mannie[Ghost] - 01.10.06 5:29 pm
Screenshot #2 is a mockup; the sky is a real photo and the rest is a 2D picture.
In fact, these are pretty bad pictures. Okay, the gameplay gonna rock but these are not ingame screenshots. Please no!
CRP Addict - 01.10.06 5:29 pm
oh. my god. I’ll pwn you all with my 1337 4 year old Tetris skillz. If I can pwn Tetris for GB, I can pwn Tetris for DS, Wi-Fi, biatches!!! w00t.
Henry - 01.10.06 5:39 pm
Awesome.
Awesome.
duncan - 01.10.06 5:55 pm
CRP Addict:
No mockups there, those are official screenshots from Nintendo.
Kreven - 01.10.06 6:38 pm
looks pretty awesome i might get these
big boy - 01.10.06 6:53 pm
Dude, we are getting so many killer apps on the DS its so amazing…
Naveed - 01.10.06 7:04 pm
@lone.nt - I think it’s been confirmed only 4 player online for MPH
This is great news, 10 player multiplayer, but i’m starting to think that the WFC only supports up to 4 players, we have yet to see a game supporting more.
I mean MK:DS and MP:H can be understandable, cause lag IS a big factor. but tetris and AC:WW, a little bit of lag shouldn’t be much of a bother?
Even the stupid blue screen in Animal Crossing, why crash everyone, when 1 person drops? The reason is probably because what the person did, didn’t save on his copy, so to keep everything “correct” on each side (everyone you talked to and things you bought/dropped/sold) they make everybody lose what they did since the last save.
In a way I understand why, they would need to crash everyone… Imagine this scenario, you go to your friends town, drop all your stuff and money, he picks it up and you pull the plug. We would get the Blue screen, but since i don ‘t want one, well that person would just be booted out of the town. I would save my copy with all the new stuff I got, but my friend since he didn’t save would still have his stuff.
So now i see why we have the Blue Screen in AC:WW

CoffeeMan - 01.10.06 7:14 pm
Bah, ugly screenshots!
Goober - 01.10.06 7:16 pm
Notice how they carefully dodge saying anything about standard marathon mode and button control. If they leave Marathon w/ buttons out, I’m not buying this. Look at Tetris Worlds for GBA… you had to use a code to get normal Tetris!!
llamapalooza87 - 01.10.06 7:34 pm
this should have been the pack in game for ds all along. killer app. buy buy buy!
cycle - 01.10.06 7:46 pm
that’s awesome, those screenshots totally remind me of tetrinet like you just mentioned.
smarterray - 01.10.06 8:01 pm
Wow, congratulations 4CR, you have succeded in making me excited about reserving and buying Tetris. lol.
Baago - 01.10.06 8:10 pm
Third \/\/007
I hope they include a lot of diffrent modes maybe with differnt blocks, or use both screens for the tetris board so it can be easier, Microphone control?)
Cheeseball701 - 01.10.06 9:02 pm
Now they’re thinking! I’m definitely getting this
Tetris kicks ass.
Poo - 01.10.06 9:13 pm
If only there were a way to get Meteos on the Nintendo Wi-Fi…
origamian - 01.10.06 9:16 pm
the idea is exciting, but the screenshots sure aren’t.
;A;
momo - 01.10.06 9:27 pm
what the hell is up with that second screenshot with mario in the forground and some pinetree covered mountains in the back? This and those suposid Revolution interface screens make me wonder if Nintendo is outsoursing there graphic design to a middle school computer lab somewhere in the Midwest United States.
Co - 01.10.06 9:33 pm
Woah, Wi-Fi coolness
I’m there!
Stefer - 01.10.06 10:44 pm
Where is my TETRISPHERE?!?!?
Benny - 01.11.06 1:10 am
Woot!!! Tetris is the bomb.
Syril Ram - 01.11.06 1:34 am
Here’s hoping for Korobeiniki (or “Song A”) to make a re-appearcance.
Bakuhatsu - 01.11.06 5:11 am
Sweet
Rumas - 01.11.06 7:52 am
I hope they put the top screen with 10 players field in the bottom screen ( quick field targeting and not using L or R for field selection … )
Also hope for team play same as in tetrinet. Looking closely it’s seems that there “maybe” some kind of team play ( look at the player’s field border color )
some interesting idea :
