4cr Year 1 – Favorite Staff Moments

In the past year 4cr has grown from one “staff” member (myself) to quite a few great guys. Everyone that works on this site approached me with a desire to contribute and help 4cr become that much better (and gain fame, of course). There is a huge love for Nintendo and gaming in general amongst the staff members.

For me, the best part of working on this site is interacting with the rest of the staff and the readers. I’ve gained a lot of great friends through 4cr. Working beside them in creating articles and podcasts is always fun and rewarding. Definitely rewarding. I love to see all the unique content they create for the site. And getting together for the rountables and such is a blast.

So, with all of that in mind I asked some of the staff to recount their favorite moments of the past year. Come inside to read what they had to say and feel free to post about what was your favorite moment here on 4cr.

I stumbled onto 4cr when rumors were first popping up about Nintendo’s mysterious next-gen console. There was a post on the Ign boards that led me to 4cr, where I presumed that the name “˜4 Color Rebellion’ must have had something to do with Nintendo’s Super Famicom controller that had 4 Colored buttons”¦

Months later, the staff decided to start doing a podcast, so I submitted a demo-podcast and”¦Walla!

My favorite staff moment so far was on the Eve of the Tokyo Game Show. Myself, Nick, CoffeeMan, Hokku (I think) and Matt were all talking on Skype conference call. Finally, news started to roll in about Iwata-san’s presentation, and then we all saw it! There was an odd moment of silence, followed by various expletives. From that moment on I don’t recall exactly what transpired, but it was a roller-coaster of disbelief, shock, confusion, and elation. It was a memorable experience!

One of my favorite moments was when we pushed over a terrabyte in 4 days while hosting the “Nintendo On” video…

30 seconds later, 50 more people have hit it up.

This went on for 2 more days before I had to take it down. Good times.

I’m not exactly sure how I found 4cr”¦ but going from casual reader to the one who “pushes buttons” has been a crazy ride. I think my favorite moment of my time here has been realizing exactly how influential we are as a site. Seeing our stories linked and (gasp!) our concepts copied has been almost a surreal experience. I’m proud that the site has grown while maintaining a small community atmosphere. I feel like 4cr is unique among websites out there”¦ we’re small enough to stay personal”¦ and that’s important. Here’s to another year. Congrats to 4cr. Here’s to staying small while getting bigger!

It was that story I put up about MS Word listing Gamecube as a spelling error and the flame war that started minutes later. It is still our only story that had to have the comments disabled for a reason other than the site crashing.

I don’t really have a favorite moment, every moment on 4cr is just pure fun. Recording our roundtables are a blast, reading up on readers comment in one of your own article brings fresh idea to the table, and these comments will motivate you to write more stuff.

Taking care of the irc channel is fun too. You get to interact with all these people from around the globe, but probably the best memory of irc was at the TGS announcement. We had almost 100 people, iirc, on the channel at once, text was just zooming by. When the first images of the Revolution popped up, the reaction people had where priceless. Yeah I guess I’ll make this my favorite staff moment.

My favorite moment so far is, by an enormous longshot, the CNET Rebellion prank we pulled on the guys. It was amazing – we pulled in people to the IRC channel that I’m pretty sure we hadn’t seen commenting or doing anything around the community for ages. However, the absolute GREATEST part was the fact that we were just sitting in skype, dying of laughter. That was a blast.

Plus, it was a whole lot of fun to interact with the people directly during that whole shebang. You should have seen the reactions I got to ‘Yeah, Nick quit the site. He’s pulling in 500,000 clams a year working in advertising.’

Thores

I think my favorite article to contribute to was the Pre-E3 Roundtable. A couple of months ago I went back and looked at it again. It was kinda fun to see how wrong most of our predictions were.

And I think the moment that was the most fun in this community had to be when the Revolution was first revealed and everyone on IRC went NUTS! There were some really priceless quotes, I wish I could remember them all.

Rumas

My favorite 4cr moment…

Hmm… I’d have to say just the podcasts overall, especially Vinnk’s Rebel in Japan stuff. Also, Vinnk’s second hand shopping in Japan article.

Sorry for not being specific. There’s just too much good stuff around here to choose!!

Ok, if I have to choose one *moment*, it would have to be the fanboy comments that spread like wildfire on the Phil Harrison post.

Tony Mora

Ok, so my favorite moment this past year, only because I’m biased, was the IAm8bit art opening. It was the first time, I think, that I contributed to 4cr. I think the art show was an embodiment of what this site is about, motivated people wanting to spread the good word on gaming. And not just Nintendo gaming, but all facets of it ie; gameplay, story and art.

Also, one of my favorite things about 4cr is the sense of community that has been built up over the past year. I can’t even remember how I found this site to begin with, but I was immediately drawn into the amount of Nintendo news every single day. Before long I was checking 4cr several times a day, and still do, to see whats up. Here’s to many more 4cr anniversaries!

P.S. You won’t believe whats going on for the next IAm8bit show! Your gonna flip!
