A hacker by the name of Parasyte has found a way to play all the courses in Mario Kart DS online. There are no real specific details, but as this video attests, it seems very real. Until more information is released, the only real way to accomplish this is to play Parasyte in a match and have him select an offline course. Apparently, it’s just a simple switching of variables in the game, but I’m not sure what he is using to do it.
Anyway, enjoy the video and keep an ear out for more info on this and other Wifi hacks.

Next on the agenda: change the online races to 150cc
John - 12.09.05 3:31 am
Wait- they aren’t 150cc online?!
Jacob - 12.09.05 3:46 am
Say, for someone w/o a DS + MKDS, how is it that you can tell from that video (on the 1st link) is online and not just a 2 player game locally?
dj - 12.09.05 3:47 am
Jacob, I was just kidding - but for some reason the online races seem slower than 150cc. Maybe it’s because there are less players, making it a little less hectic.
John - 12.09.05 3:48 am
I think the real problem here is that Nintendo could easily have allowed all the courses playable online, but left some of them out.
duncan - 12.09.05 3:50 am
Duncan, it’s obvious that Nintendo trimmed down the online mode to make it as seamless as possible - the Wi-Fi launch had to be *perfect*, so I can see them pulling out the tiniest thing that might cause a hiccup.
John - 12.09.05 3:52 am
something dosn’t seem right, he’s not exlaining how he’s getting these courses to work online. Could it be a simple glitch in his game?
NPC - 12.09.05 4:16 am
it wouldnt surprise me if nintendo made these tracks available for online play after a while for some reason.. they seem to have a lot of control over the already released mariokart DS games since they implemented that rule when you disconnect you get punished
TakaM - 12.09.05 5:44 am
I noticed that most of the courses left out of wi-fi play are the ones with lots of other things going on (ie. rotating clock face in tick tock clock, other card on the highway, marching goombas, rolling snowballs, etc.
They probably left these out for the same reason that Animal Crossing villagers stay inside during wi-fi town visits - it would be difficult to synchronize across 4 different connections, and priority is better utilized for player-to-player interactions.
Chris - 12.09.05 8:35 am
“they seem to have a lot of control over the already released mariokart DS games since they implemented that rule when you disconnect you get punished”
Since when? I hadn’t noticed a change.
ropi - 12.09.05 9:35 am
There are going to be Animal Crossing Wild World hackers who kno whow to get all our items.
Nintendofreak - 12.09.05 10:21 am
now all we need is to get a hack to get rid of snaking and this game would be great.

Actually, Wi-Fi races are at 100cc.

Frankly, these things happen. Heck, I think someone has even done a DS version of Windows!
Sideath - 12.09.05 11:27 am
He is simply spamming modified UDP packets to the other players for the level selection vote. Just change a bit or two in the packet and get a program to send and send and send, and if you are lucky it will get picked up by the other players at the right time.

TBone - 12.09.05 11:35 am
Someone has made a Windows lookalike shell program for the GBA and DS (which claims to implement some of the Windows API but it can’t be very much) but I don’t think you can really call it a “DS version of Windows” like some breathless news sites claimed at the time.
I don’t know why people complain so much about snaking. I can’t do it (I have trouble even drift-bursting or whatever you call it) but I’ve seen the AI do it as Bowser and even DK a few times.
raindog - 12.09.05 12:26 pm
RainDog, you’ve seen AI snake?
Ghost - 12.09.05 1:36 pm
Since everything goes through central Nintendo servers making a disconnect count as a loss doesn’t have anything to do with the individual games or systems, it’s the kind of thing that can be implemented server-side. I doubt this means we’ll see new tracks ever open up as they would need to re-code the games themselves to make them available as options.
Belgand - 12.09.05 3:01 pm
Unless the list of tracks is pulled from the server
NintenDonut - 12.09.05 3:26 pm
Color me impressed when he can “hack” out a working version of battle mode.
WTF Nintendo?
QuickFix - 12.09.05 3:36 pm
I see Nintendo updating it, maybe making Battle Mode online later on!
Ben J - 12.09.05 5:56 pm
There will be no update, maybe a new mario kart DS, but not an update, there would be huge issues with who is running which version of Mario Kart, I have 1.0, well have 1.5J, you need to upgrade for us to play, i had to deal with this on Age of Empire II network play all the stinking time.
This is the finished product and that is that, updating offline games via expansion pak, okay, online games, dont hold your breath.
bradford - 12.09.05 11:47 pm
How do we know how much of MKDS is pulled from the server? Until I see proof that the online menus are in the ROM of the game, I wouldn’t be surprised to find that everything is pulled from the server and stored in the writable memory until it finds an update, it seems the logical thing to do considering how incomplete it feels now. Just need a hacker to show us what’s in the ROM, like as I believe Darkain did with MPHFH early on, or ultimately an update if it is indeed possible.

Don’t let them in your town than. HUH OMG…Problem solved.
Mike A - 12.10.05 1:06 pm
Well, this really bothers me. Here I was thinking Nintendo had given us a shortened list of wi-fi courses because of technical restrictions or something… and here’s this guy playing Tick Tock Clock with zero problems whatsoever?
I want Nintendo to give us some answers here. I want to know EXACTLY why all the courses are not available to us.
Pikachelsea - 12.10.05 3:15 pm
“There will be no update, maybe a new mario kart DS, but not an update, there would be huge issues with who is running which version of Mario Kart”
Wrong. Parasyte has already played hundreds of people (mostly GameFAQs “OMG PLZ GIMME UR FREND CODE” residents), and had no problems playing them on the “unavailable” courses, even though they obviously didn’t have the courses in their list.
Pikachelsea - 12.10.05 3:17 pm
I think it’s time to take this Rebellion to the WFC - everyone who’s shitted off at people who keep snaking, do what I’ve started: either drive around the courses in reverse, or turn around and race backwards. Peaceful protest - instead of copping the quitting penalty you just lose normally, and if an entire race does it it really starts to mess with them.
Tetsuo - 12.11.05 2:22 pm
Probably they removed the courses from nintendo WFC because they were glitching when you play them online.
RR - 12.12.05 4:08 am

Dude what’s wrong with snaking? It’s part of the game, not an exploit, but an actual action that Nintendo programmed in so that if you hit R and then wiggle left and right you get a speed boost. I dont see anything wrong with it.
KMeist - 12.13.05 5:31 pm
IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are all WAAAAAAAY 2 gullible! I have proof that this is all FAKE!!! Pause the clip at the beginnning, and CLICK -DON’T Hold- the fast-foward button about 90 times. look at the reflection of the light on the top screen. Press fast foward 5-40 times. Notice that there is ONE STEADY light, Whereas, in Wifi multiplayer, there is one steady light, and one BLINKING one. This clip is fake crap & no one should beleive it.
DUDE - 12.17.05 3:36 am
mario kart DS without snaking would be extremely boring
kenji - 12.17.05 11:31 pm
he dude. you can see the nintendo wifi splash screen on the top screen and that dot in the top left is glair.

kir - 12.21.05 1:11 am
I see no evidence its fake.the reflected light cannot be of the ds.
Snaking is fine exept on the simple tracks (e.g. baby park) where its nothing but snaking thats boring. but delfino square, slideing around narrow paths, thats what the games all about.

They problably took out the larger couses so they could fit more of the smaller ones in. These servers obviously have limits, and Nintendo problably doesn’t want to have to pay for more/better servers when they are hosting this service for free. A couple hundred people playing a course such as Tick-Tock Clock may not put as much strain on the servers as 50,000 would.
Are you forgetting that the service FREE? You dont bite the hand that feeds you!
Dalton - 12.26.05 4:47 pm
everyone should shut up about snaking. Snaking is a SKILL, not a cheat. If you can’t do it, tough shit for you.
joe mcDirt - 12.26.05 10:20 pm
Believe me, I’ve already hacked the wi-fi to make Battle Mode playable. You won’t believe me anyways, so I’ll just say I’m lying!!!!! im lying.
ghgh - 12.27.05 5:34 am
I personally can’t snake yet, but am learning. I finally met a snaker, but pwned him with my excellent ramming + weapon skills
. MK : DS is fun without, but funner with. Nothing i see wrong with it, and its seeming to be an easy skill to learn (i own snaking so far, but still can only do it on cheep cheep beach/figure 8/luigis circuit/yoshi falls/tick tock clock/walugi pinball. Its a skill, its not too hard, and it doesn’t ruin the games fun. But anyways that is a cool mod.
Mikedasnipe - 12.28.05 7:01 pm
Okay. To answer some of the questions i saw on this site, it would put no more strain on the server to run tick tock clock… The idea would not be to sync all the moving items but to have each individual DS controll them… (trust me, i’ve made some online games)… You would have each ds start moving the pendulums at the same time so that they stay syncronized anyway, then unless there is some huge lag or something it stays in sync.
Leif902 - 12.30.05 7:20 pm
I’ve just witnessed this hack. I noticed someone managed to select Tick Tock Clock on the second race, Banshee Boardwalk on the third and Tick Tock Clock on the final. They never got picked for the race. I was really excited when I saw Tick Tock Clock appear the first time because I thought Nintendo had enabled it or something, but I couldn’t find it in the selection in the next race. Whoever it was that selected the tracks, they weren’t a very good driver. I was driving so bad and I still managed to win.
