Recently, a developer by the name of NIBRIS stated that they were making a Nintendo Revolution title. The game, a shooter by the name of Raid Over The River is, at this point, being created on a PC since the developer doesn’t have access to a Revolution dev kit.
Today they released some screenshots and concept art for the game. Could this be the first Revolution game screenshot? Possibly. However, since NIBRIS doesn’t actually have a dev kit and might not even know the power or abilities of the system it’s hard to tell.
So, these are in no way official screenshots. But, let’s just enjoy them and take them for what they are; nice looking concept art of what might turn into a cool Revolution game someday.

Not a bad scoop. You also managed to uncover one of the dirty secrets of the gaming biz. A lot of the first-generation software for a new console is created on PC’s without a knowledge of the final hardware specs. Typically, only the top delvelopers (usually in-house) get enough time with the hardware to really take advantage of it at the beginning. Which, I suppose is why console games only really take off after six or eight months have passed.

its on a pc but anyways

I love that art style, I hope they do make it for the rev.
Poo - 12.04.05 2:01 am
Sorry for the double post
Revolution Report contacted NIBRIS directly for further insight into the matter. According to Piotr Orlowski, the game’s project manager, NIBRIS “would like to do this game directly for Revolution and DS,” adding further that “only Nintendo platforms [will] get this game.” Responding to why Raid over the River would only come to Nintendo’s console rather than Xbox 360 or PS3, Orlowski stated, “Nintendo is our life. We have all of the Nintendo consoles; we are fans.”
I love these people.
Poo - 12.04.05 2:04 am
The fact that those graphics can’t hold for the DS version suggests that they might not hold for the rev either.

HAAAA!!! Us Polish Nintendo fans ROCK!!

If they changed the name to “Tiger Heli” then I’d definitely buy it.
Garman - 12.04.05 2:24 am
Looks like an updated version of River Raid which was an awesome shooter for its time.
Sammy12 - 12.04.05 3:00 am
Those are some pretty sharp screens.
Lynx - 12.04.05 3:07 am
I love these people. They sound like me if I made games.
Fish - 12.04.05 3:20 am
If they don’t have a dev kit, it’s not a revolution screen. Don’t start that
megarust - 12.04.05 3:21 am
interesting…
no that other thing.. tedious.
TakaM - 12.04.05 3:29 am
Come on, we arent going to get REAL Revolution screens until E3. You cant expect me to hold out that long and not even post conceptual stuff!
Nick - 12.04.05 3:29 am
sure it looks nice n all, but until i see something made on the devkit I’ll get excited
TakaM - 12.04.05 4:01 am
Looks kinda neat~ It reminds me too much of PC games like Warcraft which I really didn’t enjoy… Oh well. Still looks nice though.
dj - 12.04.05 4:18 am
The 5th screenshot down looks so realistic… only for some reason it looks like a toy town
Perfect lighting on that one, they just have to work out the scale of some things before it reaches an un-toyish state.
These guys being indie made me instantly think no one would accept the game because they weren’t doing a good job… but no… this looks friggin’ awesome. As with Alien Hominid, sometimes the Indies know best.
What is Nintendo thinking? This looks like the perfect launch app for the controller!
Eques - 12.04.05 4:27 am
It looks cool, and these guys are proposing the game exclusively for Revo because they love Nintendo !!, I beleive that there’s a lot of potentiel in the small independant studios, Nintendo should really invest in some of them , because we really need new fresh stuff, new genre , new franchises, new studios.
MAcRAmaN - 12.04.05 4:44 am
Screw you FCR and your misleading blogs!

DJ, how does a futuristic shooter remind you of Warcraft, a fantasy RTS?
Vantes - 12.04.05 6:35 am
The graphics are super-sweet. Even for PC, these guys have got skill, now all they need is a dev kit
Ben J - 12.04.05 6:46 am
Altough technically its not a revolution screenshot it still gives us insight into how the game will look, run and many other things, has anybody thought that this may disprove that cube-mapping theroy?
Nicko - 12.04.05 7:45 am
I have a hunch that the Revolution won’t be able to handle those graphics.
BreakfastPills - 12.04.05 9:29 am
Thats no revo game !!!! Lets say I do the same. I make some pics with my pc and say i want to make it a revo game. Would it be the 2nd revo game announced??? No way! I can see hordes of sonyphiles trashing on those pics
Jacomar - 12.04.05 9:33 am
The concept art on that site is beautiful. I can’t wait to see more of this game.
Luke314pi - 12.04.05 9:56 am
i think these graphics are entirey possible on the revo, hell I think theyre possible for the gcn and maybe even the ps2..
TakaM - 12.04.05 10:04 am
Those sonyphiles would have to kindly explain what the PS3 games shown at E3 actually were then Jacomar
Exactly the same situation as this.
Vantes - 12.04.05 10:05 am
Vantes, what disturbes me is that these people have no revo dev kit and no publisher. How can they claim they are developing? I think that having cool ideas for the controller is not sufficient. Those are PC pics, period.
Think it this way. if tomorrow i submit some 3d pics and claim that I have great ideas for the revmote amd that im developing for the revo, but i dont have a publisher, i dont have a dev kit… would yu believe me???
Jacomar - 12.04.05 10:26 am
Ok guys…sorry about the fanciful headline, but just enjoy the pics for what they are; concept art for a next gen that might appear on the Rev. It looks good and interesting.
If we want to get all crazy, lets then call this the first official Nintendo Revolution Screenshot:
Original Gangsta
Nick - 12.04.05 10:40 am
They are looking for a publisher before this game can become a reality on the Rev. Damn you NOE. Apparently the went to NOE and they said no to publishing it. I thought they we going to be all about the helping the independent dev’s nextgen.
John - 12.04.05 12:06 pm
I didn’t notice the title earlier - a very obvious play on Activision’s classic shoot-em-up River Raid. It would be fun to see more of the classic game styles making a comeback. Who needs 14-button odysseys, anyway?
Daniel Thomas - 12.04.05 12:58 pm
This guy is Polish? cool, im Polish too
Conradical - 12.04.05 1:18 pm
man, I sawn’t even thinking of schmups on the rev, they’d be awesome! They require so much control to avoid all the crap flying at you…. using the wand could be hyper intuitive… and the games themselves usually have simple controls (normal fire, bomb, maybe a third fire button at the most). Mmm, I need Treasure to do another Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga for the Rev now. As for the development not taking palce on Rev dev kits, well, maybe these guys are familiar with the GCN kits, as N said the kits were pretty similar if I recall…
As for whether or not this will ever see the light of day, why don’t we all just take a step back and say “We hope so” for a number of reasons: This is an indie. Indie’s are more often than not willing to take chances, as if an indie makes something like an FPS, they have a dungload of competition going against them. Schmups are few and far between, that generally have simple mechanics with sometimes complex execution (who knew that the dark/light thing in Ikaruga could end up brining as much strategy to the game as it did?), so it’s a chance for an indie to really strut their stuff. Also, a lot of the major studios don’t even have dev kits yet, so it’s perfectly understandable that these guys don’t have one. I’m sure nintendo wants to make a huge splash, so in the mean time they’re gonna wanna support the bigger studios so if guys like Kojima decide to make a game, they’ll have all the resources they need to make it come to fruition.
With that in mind, I’m surte Nintendo isn’t gonna go back on its statement that Rev will be indie-friendly, I just think they’re gonna be really picky about who they outright support, especially prior to launch. Me thinks that a lot of indie stuff they support might come in the form of downloadable content over the wifi network (a la Geometry Wars).
If these guys are familiar with GCN dev kits, they can at least begin development, and start the porting process when they can get their hands on a Rev kit.
ryan - 12.04.05 1:29 pm
Those screens and concept art are sweet. And yes, I would kill for a Ikaruga Revolution title, or at least something from Treasure.
GabrielTheDominican - 12.04.05 1:36 pm
LITTLE BETTER THAN THE GAMECUEB~~!!!
mitch - 12.04.05 3:22 pm
It’d be nice if they actually made some kind of deal with Activision so they could call it River Raid, since that’s obviously what they’re going for.
As for the screenshots…. preeeeeeeettyyyyyy. The reason the fifth screenshot looks like a toy town is that they have some more work to do on the textures. They seem to be overusing some of them. But I’m sure it’d be harder to notice in motion.
raindog - 12.04.05 4:07 pm
Well it’s sweet, but not the real thing.
[MaSQuE] - 12.04.05 7:35 pm
Am I the only one who gets an error 404 when I click to the screens?
I can’t see them. )c:
Deozaan - 12.04.05 9:17 pm
Very good art style.
Mr. Triforce - 12.04.05 10:01 pm
sucks to be you.
ryan - 12.04.05 10:42 pm
Sound like cool guys, I hope it works out for them. The game looks ok, I guess, just not too special. Cool to hear that they have it all thought out with the Rev controller in mind.
Rumas - 12.04.05 10:55 pm
Lots of people saying these aren’t Revo pics.
If they can get this game running smoothly on a PC NOW, then they definitely should be able to get it running on a Revolution NEXT FALL.
I don’t know whether you guys are doubting because you’re impressed or not, but these graphics are entirely feasible.
Eques - 12.05.05 1:51 am
And NIBRIS appears to be over their bandwidth limit
‘lest that says the host removed their site… I can’t read… guacamolian. *shifty*
Eques - 12.05.05 1:57 am
There is some small problem. My friend which know guys from NIBRIS tell me that on Saturday they have contact from Microsoft…
RADIX7 - 12.05.05 5:04 am
fuck ninty and their stupid way of thinkin support this game now!
maybe we should start an Online petition. For Once Ninty should stopfucking up^.Lik they did with Unity on the NGC
highlandcattle - 12.05.05 10:46 am
Yes. Because petitions always get the job done.
TheOneGuy - 12.05.05 2:51 pm
Guys, if you want real Revo screens, nintendo released a metroid 3 footage back in E3 2005, just google metroid 3 , you can find a lot of images from that footage, and let me tell you the effect on the number 3 at the End of the video is really impressive ( the bubles ), I’m confident that the Revo will have descent specs and impressive graphics.
MaCrAmaN - 12.05.05 3:14 pm
this is the effect that I’m talking about :
http://tinyurl.com/9krl8
MaCrAmaN - 12.05.05 3:15 pm
Geez, some of you guys need to chill…No one has anyway of knowing what the Rev. will be capable of, and it makes no differences what so ever that they don’t have a publisher and that they don’t have a dev. kit…most 1st generation games that aren’t produced in-house aren’t made on dev. kits to begin with…and tons of titles are begun without publishers..That’s like saying every unknown author already have a publisher lined up before he/she writes their first book…just doesn’t work like that…
DUKobE8 - 12.05.05 5:19 pm
this would be amasing for the rev since of the moveing of the controller
