Check out this weeks podcast for a segment about Nintendo’s profitability and what that means for gamers. We also discuss the importance and/or viability of gaming magazines in the current day. DSgamer21 treats us to a lovely piano rendition of Ocarina Of Time’s Song Of Storms and we answer a voicemailbag question about the PS3 controller vs. the Revolution controller.
And don’t forget to send us voicemail questions and just general voicemails. We’d love to hear what you guys think, not only of the podcast in general, but more importantly, the topics we cover. Agree or disagree, we want to know.

The roundtable responder, your new title
Great job on the roundtable once again.
Bathroom Reading FTW!
CoffeeMan - 11.21.05 11:30 am
Yeah, Leeds Guy has taken the voicemail and made it his own segment, lol.
As for the whole iTunes fiasco…I listened to the entire podcast in iTunes and although the time ran out, the podcast never stopped playing. It worked fine for me.
I did notice though that if you right click on the podcast entry and convert it to AAC then it will make an acc file in your library that displays the correct time. Maybe that is what you have to do before transfering it to your iPod.

Man, Leeds Guy, talk a little longer!
Haha, I remember being confused at the Dole logo too.
Kickass podcast guys. *crosses fingers for RiJ next time*

Magazine? I’d love a magazine… a fan-driven, Nintendo magazine, with all the ideals that you guys put forth in this roundtable. That’d make for an awesome magazine.
Great podcast, loved the profitability report.
hack - 11.21.05 2:39 pm
First, just want to say I loved the podcast, the musical segment was a nice touch
Second…oh gawd, believe it or not, it was my brother who sent in the Q&A question. I really can’t believe he could ask such an odd question, I’ll have to apologise for that!
But seriously, he’s chuffed that his question got answered…being a young nintendo fan that he is

great podcast again guys, i was a hardcore EGM reader, now when i go to a bookstore and i look at the videogame magazines i could cry, the prices are ridiculous, also there isn’t much that bookstores offer here, maybe that’s even worse.
wes - 11.21.05 7:29 pm
Hey, I wanted to let you guys know about the state of video games media here in ye ol’ blighty (UK)
In fairly well stocked magazine stores (WHSmiths) I see a butt loada Xbox mags, Playstation mags and the 2 Nintendo mags tucked away on the bottom shelf behind women’s photography mags. Cross platform? Neva’ ‘erd of ‘em guvna. I don’t know what happened but I don’t see them any more. Nowhere except EDGE.
That one bastion and beakon.
And here is my concern: It was just about the only place on the shelves that I saw SCREAMING OUT for all that it’s worth what the Revolution controller was doing. The rest is owned by the competition. Nintendo dedicated mags have become deleriously colourful shadows of grand towers f gaming journalism from many moons past. The controller must have occuppied a total of 10% of the official Nintendo magazine cover when the story broke.
And so without the internet, without EDGE, and without my brother and I spreading the humble word amongst our seperate demographics, this country would continue to rot in cold darkness.
moomer - 11.21.05 9:42 pm
moomer - check out games tm - it’s similar to edge, and has a good retro gaming section every month.

keep it up
bwntcake - 11.21.05 11:54 pm
DSgamer21 should have full length mp3s available somewhere online, I really enjoy them. Solid podcast once again.
robotplague - 11.21.05 11:57 pm
Sorry for the double post, I just saw DSgamers site for the first time (wasn’t aware of it). Beautiful work.
robotplague - 11.21.05 11:59 pm
Here in Germany the magazine that I get has got a much higher quality than Internet content. So I’m very happy with it over all. From the 2 episodes of EGM that I have got, I am very disappointed with it. So as long as the quality stays this high I will definitely continue to get magazines.
Btw that piece from Ocarina of Time was my favorite part of the soundtrack from that game. So when the music started playing I leaned back, closed my eyes and enjoyed it
. It was great

Hi Duncan..
I could probably talk all night to be honest, but I don’t want to undo all the good work these guys have done so far! (I’ve just thought though.. were you being sarcastic?..:-0)
As for Nintendo mags in the UK, I guess Edge is the best in terms or articles and reviews (the Official Nintendo mag seems to be pitched at 3 year olds..:-( ) Moomer’s comment was spot on though, although I’d say the volume of Nintendo mags matches the volume of games in game stores over here (i.e. very little).
I remember the N64 mags going the same way though when the console was thought to have hit it’s peak and a newer console was rumoured, so it’s no suprise.. Also, Nintendo seem a bit tight on exclusives, screen shots and general promo stuff, which gives magazine editors little to play with in comparison to the OTT blitz you get with Sony and Microsoft.. A healthy balance somewhere between the 2 would be nice.
Personally though, I get all my reviews and news from sites like this one and from personal recommendations on Amazon etc.. they’re written from the heart rather than being over analytical and for me games are all about heart..:-)

Nick - thanks for the heads-up on the convert-to-AAC workaround. This one cut off again on my iPod at about 28 minutes, midway through the voicemail Q&A. I’ll try the AAC method and let you know. do you guys know how many people subscribe through iTunes? Would it be worth considering a second RSS feed, with it in AAC format already? Or is that just too much hassle?
Tetsuo - 11.23.05 2:38 am
It might be worth pursuing. Ive had so many mixed reports though, that Im not sure what the problem is. Ive had other people tell me that they have listened to every podcast on their iPod and not had a single problem.
We’ll keep working on it.
Nick - 11.23.05 4:05 am
Could it have something to do with what generation of iPod it is? FWIW I’m using a 4G iPod mini. Maybe newer ones don’t have the problem…. Or maybe… are you encoding it in a variable bitrate or constant?
Tetsuo - 11.23.05 2:57 pm
Finially managed to listen to the poscast last night on the way back from work and mine died on me too just as my dodgy voicemail segment was about to start!.. if you fast forward slightly it picks up again though.. odd..
Every podcast I’ve listened to was downloaded via iTunes and has worked ok so far..
I’ll do another voicemaily thing asap, but I’m going to have to get slicker at this, I always sound half-asleep!
