The hour of power! This week we broke the 1 hour mark. That’s because we have some great stuff. We, of course, have the news and the roundtable, which focuses on advertising in games. Dsgamer21 treats us to a lovely piano piece from Majora’s Mask and I speak on the issue of female and minority gamers. We also have special treat…
Since today is the release of Mario Kart DS, Octorok got an exclusive interview with Gregor Fran, the number one ranked Mario Kart Double Dash player in the nation! Gregor tells us how he got into Mario Kart and how he came to be the best. You can bet he is looking forward to playing the DS game!
I’d also like to thank leeds_guy for being the first listener to actually respond to what we talked about in previous podcast. It’s great to hear what you guys think about the topics we talk about.
And that brings me to something new that we have started this week; 4cr voicemailbag. We take a question asked on the voicemail and answer it roundtable style. Send in your questions for future podcasts and we will pick the best one and try to sound intelligent while responding!

You’ll notice that they are advertising their new models on the billboard thoughout the game

CoffeeMan - 11.14.05 12:13 pm
i really liked the segment about how companies should go about “targeting female/minority gamers.” very nice.

This week was great, just finished listening to it

No Rebel in Japan? Ah man, that’s my favourite part!
duncan - 11.14.05 12:40 pm
I could beat Gregor. After all, he’s missing a letter from my full name, so he can’t be as good. : )
Seriously though, I’d like to see what he’s made of..
Greg - 11.14.05 12:47 pm
Duncan - YEah, RiJ is my favorite bit too. Good though!
Jonathan - 11.14.05 1:03 pm
Good point about preferring to own NES games rather than the emulation on the REV - since it’s boxed and physically avaliable, you feel more proud to own it. It’s like owning a good CD collection is nicer than having 1000s of MP3s.
Kickarse podcast guys, still the best there is, although i missed RiJ. Is it coming back?

I suggest watching Gregors video of his DK mountain time trial, really impressive. The discussion about advertising is quite and interesting subject. I don’t think they will lower costs because advertising in games is on the rise. Just like in movie theaters, theres adveritsing from the moment you walk into a movie theater until you walk out. In the lobby, while you’re waiting for a movie they show commercials, between previews theres ads, in the movie theres ads, it’s everywhere. Yet ticket prices here are like 10 bucks now and still going up. The publisher/developer is just going to pocket the extra revenue and not pass it on to consumers (I’m curious if theres stats how much they can make on that). Anyway, great podcast once again.

great podcast, keep it up!

Um, your podcast’s still broken. Still got the same have-to-fast-forward-to-hear-it-all thing going on. Otherwise it’s cutting off at the beginning of DSGamer’s thing.
Tetsuo - 11.15.05 11:24 am
Tetsuo - Stop using Real Player. It cuts out early for whatever reason. I had no trouble with Windows Media Player.
Poo_bob - 11.15.05 3:30 pm
another great podcast guys.. once again I nearly crashed my car hearing my dulcet Yorkshire accent blaring out of my stereo..
I really need to make my voicemail ramblings a little more punchy & coherent but I’ll try and leave another one for you tonight.
Dom (9 days to Mario Kart DS in the UK.. and counting)!
Leeds_Guy - 11.16.05 9:08 am
Poo_Bob - I would stop using Real Player, if I hadn’t given that piece of crap up years ago. I’m using AN IPOD and it’s still busted. There’s something inherently screwed up when a PODcast doesn’t work on an iPOD properly.
Tetsuo - 11.16.05 10:47 am
Tetsuo…we will look into it. Octorok has had to do some fancy twealink in order to get the podcast to play in iTunes, yet still remain small enough to be reasonable.
We will look into it and maybe go back and re-encode some of them.
Nick - 11.16.05 11:09 am
Thanks Nick. I can’t figure out for myself what’s up - the first few podcasts were fine, and I think the one before this was fine too, so I have no idea….
Tetsuo - 11.18.05 11:36 am
@Leeds_Guy The intro tune used for the ‘mailbag’ section was originally from Thames Television and not ATV.
