[Now Reading| The Goon #14]

This is huge news not only for comic book fans, but also Stephen King fans. King and Marvel will be working together to produce a comic series based on the critically acclaimed Dark Tower series.
Jae Lee will be penciling the book and Richard Isanove will be coloring. Unfortunately, while Jae Lee’s pencils look amazing, I’m not really digging Isanove’s colors. A little too bright and saturated for my tastes. Still, all I’ve see are a few promo shots, so I’m going to withhold final judgment until I have the first issue in my hands.

Wow I have seen Jaes work in a long time. Does he still do the ink with razor blade and splatter thing?

Awesome! I just read the first Dark Tower novel the other week and am looking forward to the rest of the series. Maybe I should just read the comic!

I don’t really have problems with the colors, although it would probably be stronger in black and white.
I read Walking Dead, for example, and while the comic itself is black and white, the covers are full color and extremely vivid and it works really well. Just because the subject matter is “dark” does not mean the colors have to be in order for it to mesh well once you have it in your hands.

Well its not the subject matter vs colors that bother me…its just that I don’t like the coloring style. Its the same style marvel has been using on all of its ultimate titles and it feels a little cheesy to me.
I guarantee that if you look back on it in 5 years it will look bad. Some coloring techniques are classic, some aren’t. I feel that this style is trying too hard to be “hip”.
But Im still picking it up, lol.
