LostLevels.org digs into the mystery behind Earthbound, or Mother as it is known in Japan. In the US we have received one Earthbound game which was actually Mother 2 in Japan. So, what happened to Mother 1? Why didn’t we get it? And what was Earthbound Zero?
Check out the full article for a very interesting history of the game and an in depth interview with Phil Sandhop, who help localize the original Mother for an NES release.

I think this has been around for quite a while.

Yeah, I’m a huge EarthBound fan, and I knew all of this, but, it’s still cool to read about again.
Now, all of you must buy it, and attempt to pass up my amount of playthroughs(I’m working on my 229th
).
It’s like $70 on eBay, which, is a little pricey compared to most used SNES game, but, this isn’t just any game…

I almost beat Mother and then lost my save… then I almost beat it again and I had the crappy copy with the protection that would shut down when you spoke to a key character late in the game, then gave up
It’s really neat though, and has some cool NES music. (Even the funky 50’s rock battle music from Earthbound is kinda there.)

Great article! Once Earthbound Zero actually works on imbNes then I’ll probably have to give it another go.

I’m really hoping we will be able to play such a gem on the Revolution’s download service.
