“Best comic book movie ever made”? Guess you didn’t see Sin City, eh?
Azathoth - 10.18.05 11:46 am
It’s just $ 14.99 at circuit city, i’m gonna pick one up today !!! since the original tim burton’s Batman this is the most promising comic to movie adaptation , hopefully the upcoming Superman will be a piece of art , I’m confident ,Bryan Singer
is a talented director and did a great job on X-men.
MaCrAmaN - 10.18.05 12:11 pm
This movie was truly spectacular. First movie that I’ve seen in theaters three times in a six day span. Makes me wish I had the funds to acquire this gem right now…

Don’t forget that Batman and Batman Returns were also recently rereleased with new extras.
Joseph Valencia - 10.18.05 1:04 pm
Hmmm… I’m tempted to get this one.
Also, FYI, Best Buy is offering a special exclusive Deluxe Edition of the Batman Begins DVD with a “lenticular cover”. Whatever that is.
See here for details: http://tinyurl.com/7df5p

Definitely a must buy for anyone who love’s a good movie…….period!

Best comic book movie ever?… nah, Batman Returns is my favourite Batman film. And even then X-men and its sequal are quite good. But yeah, a bit much overstatement there.
zooba - 10.18.05 4:26 pm
Best Comic Book movie ever IS the 1989 Batman. There are so many subtleties for fans in that movie, and the script was so well written. But they are both must haves
JFK90787 - 10.18.05 5:56 pm
JFK90787, I agree Tim burton’s batman is a masterpiece, the story, the actors ( keaton & nicholson ), everything was perfect , Tim burton was also planing to make a Superman movie back in the 90’s !!! .
MACRAMAN - 10.18.05 6:16 pm
Azathoth - I’m with you.
Sin City was Miller’s vision realised almost perfectly… and what a spectacularly visceral and beautifully unpleasant vision it is too

This morning I went out and brought 8-Disc Batman - The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997 which I am most likely going to give to my brother as a Christmas gift (shh… I am getting ahead start on shopping this year). This week old Batman movies (Batman / Batman Returns / Batman Forever / Batman & Robin) are rerelease with an additional second disc for each. Just to save money and time, I brought the set which is less than buying each separately: 4 movie each for around $18 totals to $72 whereas the box set I brought at Target was $49.99.
Best Buy’s “exclusive box art” for the 2-disc Deluxe Edition is not truly exclusive, I saw the similar box art at Target and Circuit City. Orginally, I planned on going to Best Buy to buy the Deluxe Edition and the new Batman: The Complete 1940 Movie Serial Collection which I have on CDs but instead I went to Circuit City and brought the Deluxe Edition with the free Collective Lithograph. The Lithograph is okay. I am more suprised how the 72-page collectible comic book managed to fit inside the cover. Although I am a huge Batman fan (I am planning on becoming a detective like Batman but without all the gear and income), I haven’t seen Batman Begins as I had planned on doing. The last movie I saw in theater was the Spider-man (the first one). I’ll make time to watch Batman Begins and read the comic book. I didn’t have time to pick up Batman: The Complete 1940 Movie Serial Collection but I will soon hopefully.

X-Men took a nosedive for me as soon as Halle Berry uttered that ridiculously stupid catch phrase.
“You know what happens to a toad that gets struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else.”
Zomg, I’m so scared. Talk about a letdown. Nice writing there, guys

Just like Azathoth said - SiN CiTy was a lot better than batman and is probably the best comic book movie ever made.Easy.
Check it out.
Touch FuzZy, Get DizZy - 10.18.05 9:44 pm
Picked up the DVD yesterday and watched the movie last night. I liked it a lot. Didn’t love it, but definitely thought it was cool. It didn’t reach out and touch me like Burton’s did, or like my favorite Batman comics have, but I still really enjoyed it, and the Tumbler rocks
As did creepy Cillian Murphy.
N Rumas - 10.18.05 10:07 pm
Sin City the best comic book movie ever? Hardly. Closest to the source material? Certainly. That doesnt make it the best comic movie ever though.
Dont get me wrong, it was a great movie. Visually beautiful and basically panel for panel from the comic. However, issues such as length and general ability to keep the viewer interested the entire time made this movie fall short for me. Also, at the end of the day Sin City is a joyride. I didnt gain anything from it other than comic book geek love.
Batman Begins stands on its own as a movie. Not only does it do the source material the utmost justice, but it makes its own credible and unique movie. As I said in my review, this is a beautiful movie also happens to have Batman in it. To me, the ability to marry the comic book history and the strengths of film making end up creating someone else entirely. A legend.
Nick - 10.18.05 10:54 pm
I totally agree with you on Sin City, Nick. I’m a huge fan of the comics, but the movie felt to me like a glorified gimmick. Don’t get me wrong, I loved everything before The Big Fat Kill, and I thought it was a neat movie overall, but I would have rather just stayed home and read the comics again - They’re a far more rewarding experience. Film and comics are entirely different mediums, and a film adaption is best when it conveys something that the page could not, and vice versa.
I enjoyed Batman and I’m even glad I decided to buy it cold turkey, but I thought some of the script was just a bit stale, especially the stuff with Rachel. I think Nolan did a very commendable job, but from the guy who came up with Memento, I was hoping for an even deeper look into the Dark Knight, if that makes any sense. Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors, and he was an awesome Bruce Wayne, but I thought he looked and sounded a bit hokey as Batman. ‘I’m Batman!’ had such a chilling effect spoken by Michael Keaton that I don’t think anyone could make it sound intimidating in comparison, no matter how digitally manipulated their voice is. I know I’m in the minority on this, though. Overall, it’s my third favorite Batman movie, after Burton’s first and Mask of the Phantasm. I don’t like it as much as many, but I think it’s a very solid film.
N Rumas - 10.18.05 11:43 pm
Ahh, Mask of the Phantasm and Batman Beyond - Return of the Joker were both awesome. I also got the recent Batman - Mystery of the Batwoman, but it was a bit of a letdown. However, if you havent checked them out, Batman: The Animated Series DVDs are awesome. One of the best cartoons ever.
And I do have to agree with you, N Rumas. My favorite parts are certainly the Bruce Wayne parts. Rachel also does feel a bit flat. I dont know why every movie has to shoehorn in a love story of sorts. At least they kept it to minimum and there was no cheesy love scene.
Nick - 10.18.05 11:59 pm
Haven’t seen much Beyond - I’ll have to check it out. I still can’t get over how cool the animated series was. Especially the late redesign where everything went darker and simpler. Brilliant. Wish Supes had been as good.
N Rumas - 10.19.05 12:04 am
Its amazing we had such different experiences of these two films.
Batman was certainly okay - I wouldn’t ask for my money back, but I could never treasure it in my heart as some sort of perfect batman film. For example, the story was just too badly done. Remember the part where batman was so honourable that he refused to kill a murderer who deserved death, so he instead he blew up the building the murderer was in, killing the murderer along with several other people? Thats pretty retarded. I mean, making up that bullshit character for katie holmes, the anti-comic take on the batmobile…. ugh. I don’t want to think about it.
I don’t know how I can defend Sin City any better than simply watching it defends itself - if you already saw it… You saw those brilliant cinematics …and those stylish, driven, fascinating characters… The harsh, gritty, noir story… Damn. I just can’t agree that you can
find meaning in batman begins and not this. Hunnigan, Dwight and Marv are just such cool heroes.
Touch FuzZy, Get DizZy - 10.19.05 12:08 am
Batman (1989) was great, but feels dated now that I watch it again. X-Men & Sin City were damn good but like people noted above, there was cheese in them. There was nothing that bothered me about Batman Begins and it was phenomenal! I am looking forward to X-3 and whatever sequels Batman Begins gives us~
dj - 10.19.05 12:44 am
Don’T keep your hopes to high for X-men 3. It’s not the same director. Brian Singer is working on the new Superman, so he dropped X3…

I see where you’re coming from. A lot of my pals feel the same way. I loved the cinematography in the first half hour or so. It was indescribably awesome to see Bruce Willis driving against an old Hitchcock style shaky background talking about his ‘bum ticker’. And Marv was incredible. I just felt like it all quickly collapsed into gimmicky indulgence that was nothing but cheap thrills and edginess, whereas the books put the reader into a kind of captivated meditation that gets the heart pumping in high gear. The magic just wasn’t there for me.

THis was a friggin awesome movie!! Best superhero movie ever made! I came into the theater reluctant to watch, but in the end was nearly cheering for ol’ batty at the end!
PS Another good movie is Kingdom of Heaven… and they came out close to each other. Now Im off to Blockbuster to get both these movies and watch them!
