[Now Playing| Fire Emblem - gb micro]

For those without a wireless router, the USB connector will be sold worldwide.
1. You plug the connector into your internet-ready PC.
2. A window pops up, you click it with your mouse.
3. Then your DS can connect to it as a Wi-Fi access point.
Easy.

Oh, now I’m happy.
I imagined something like this, and I hoped they would actually make it. I hope it is available at the launch of Wi-Fi Connections so I can get it, a copy of Mario Kart DS and a copy of Animal Crossing: Wild World at the same time.

It works very well. The software is very intuitive.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 3:53 am
Oh and the one I have is made by Buffalo and has stickers all over it so I can’t take photos, otherwise I’d get the person in trouble whom this belongs to. Hate being in the know and not able to post about it.

Any word on if it would be to do anything other than games over wifi? For example; is this like a thumbsized NIC card featured here: http://www.aaronrogers.com/nintendods/wifime.php ?
tao - 10.05.05 4:06 am
So far the only thing we could get to connect to the damned thing is our DSs… Other wireless cards don’t work. I assume this has something to do with the drivers.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 4:08 am
Wow it is early in the morning, sorry for spamming up the comments page, kinda bored I guess. I also didn’t read where they linked to the Buffalo information until just now (Pondering sleep currently). I feel silly for stating the obvious.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 4:12 am
^Normally spam like that probably wouldn’t be allowed, but since you’re a girl it’s probably fine because we’re all nerds.
An interesting thing to note is that presentation says the wifi will only connect to Broadband. So that puts that argument to rest.
hokku - 10.05.05 4:42 am
^^^ LOL!!
…a-hem… Hokku, you geek!
but seriously… USB is an inferior broadband transmission medium. why cant they give us Ethernet?!
DOH!
OCTOROK - 10.05.05 4:53 am
^^ answering my own question:
Because almost every computer on earth has an active USB input or 2 (or 10), but not necessarily an ethernet NIC. and also, current wifi standards don’t warrant the added cost of such an ethernet mandate. Oh, and USB is idiot-proof (mostly).
:/
OCTOROK - 10.05.05 5:01 am
Thanks for being tolerant.
I just tried connecting to WiFi Connection (2 minutes ago) and it doesn’t work on my computer now. ~_~; Networking hates me.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 5:03 am
I wonder what the odds are on this working with my Mac? 0%?
And Octotrok, I’m not sure what you mean about USB being an inferior transmission medium? USB2 is 400mb/s whilst wired ethernet is only 10/100mb/s (1gb/s is rare). Seeing as most net connection are only 512kb > 4mb the hardware speed is a bit of a moot point. Unless you’re talking about something else in which case I apologise.
Ben - 10.05.05 5:32 am
This was good news!
I wonder what the price will be on the little USB gadget, and what Operation Systems that will be supported.
Windows 98/2k/XP and Slackware Linux out of the box?
Kenny - 10.05.05 5:34 am
Does this mean that those of us who already have wireless routers will have to buy this anyway?
cal - 10.05.05 6:10 am
Cal - Nope, you can use your exsisting connection, this is more for those who can’t afford a router and reasons like that.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 6:47 am
You’ve already shown us a picture of one, but I suppose it was photshopped.
TBone - 10.05.05 6:51 am
i wonder if it will work on a ps2 usb port
ahmedz - 10.05.05 6:55 am
you can preorder this at play.com already for £15 ($30US or so)

Kenny - 10.05.05 7:12 am
thats the one!
thanks for getting the link working!
mischa - 10.05.05 7:14 am
Yeah im ready for this right now.
Nintendofreak - 10.05.05 7:21 am
I have an apple ibook. will it still work?
NARUTO777 - 10.05.05 7:42 am
Does anyone know if US and PAL releases of online games can interact with each other? I know that different regions of currently released games can’t connect to each other. I want to know if I have to get an American Animal Crossing to play with Americans and a PAL one to play with Europeans.
Mike - 10.05.05 7:57 am
Whew… for some reason I thought my wireless router wouldn’t work with it. That’s awesome. I think I’ll buy one anyway and connect it to my laptop (if it ends up mac compatible, but the article didn’t sound that way).
So I guess if your not near a wireless router or any wireless access you can’t connect, right? Like if I was outdside somewhere or at a public place?
jtatooine - 10.05.05 8:24 am
Mike, I only know the PR head of Nintendo Europe said Europeans could play Mario Kart DS against someone in Tokyo, Japan. For me, that was exactly what I needed, cause I assume it’s worldwide WiFi then. But no idea on Animal Crossing unfortunately

Kyaaa, it’s exciting! I can’t wait to sit down and read the whole thing. What a good thing to wake up on!!!
Neko Tsukimi - 10.05.05 8:31 am
Ok, so it states Europe, Japan & US…
Does Australia even exist? Are we Europe or Japan?? If this doesn’t work here, heads are gonna roll.
Who’s heads isn’t important, maybe Coco, my Nintendogs’

so, let me get this straight… Your blog, Nintendo Girl, has info obviously stating this is made by Buffalo, which i’m assuming you wrote, then you say you didn’t know?!?!?!
And you can’t post a pic? I call bullshit. But then again, this is such a minimal news item that I really don’t care.
luv 6
666 - 10.05.05 9:01 am
Does anyone know a US release date on this thing?
Greg - 10.05.05 9:01 am
Ohhhhhhhh… and of course the computers at my work have open usb ports. Mwa ha ha. Nintendo’s thought of everything, goodbye productivity!
Joseph - 10.05.05 9:19 am
I’m positive right before or along with the release of Mario Kart DS. And it’s kinda funny too how Mario Kart and Animal Crossing DS’s dates are flipped in Japan. Makes me want to import Animal Crossing…
NekoTsukimi - 10.05.05 9:21 am
Geh, sorry for teh double posting…
But I wonder how easily it’ll work… Will it be true plug-and-play like thumbdrives are (not needing drivers installed) and allow it to function on logins that aren’t admin?
If so… I can prolly kiss my job goodbye
NekoTsukimi - 10.05.05 9:25 am

I think you misunderstood me. The things I post here have no relation to what I do with Nintendo Gal. I posted the news on my site after I read all this information.
Nintendo Gal - 10.05.05 9:39 am
Nintendo Gal, does it work in linux?
Matt - 10.05.05 10:23 am
I’m curious since this would help me a lot, will this work for the Revolution when it comes out, or will they develop another one exactly the same but made for the Revolution?
CuriousGeorge - 10.05.05 10:52 am
Anyone else pissed that they have to go out and spend 30 bucks on another wifi connection because the one we already had for a year isnt compatible.
