[Now Playing| Indigo Prophecy]

In a recent post, we discussed the possibility of seeing the oh-so-awaited Earthbound 3 to DS. An article found in the latest Famitsu issue reveals that Marvelous Interactive was indeed involved in a DS game project, but not the Earthbound 3 that many were expecting. The little professor sprite gives it all away.
DS-X2 has posted some details and scans on the upcomming title.
Developped by Grasshopper, known for their work on Killer7, Contact will be making its appearance on the DS in February 2006, and will feature WiFi support. A close look at the scans shows a very unique 2-screen display; one being 2D pixel-styled environments/lab and the other displaying some of the best looking graphics for upcomming RPG of the likes. There also seem to be some sort of jobs and/or skills involved.
There might be more details reveiled on the game itself very soon, as Marvelous website shows up a nice little countdown ending in less than 24 hours.
On a completely unrelated sidenote, Famitsu also reveals more details on the upcomming Harvest Moon title for DS, bound to be released on December 8th.
UPDATE: IGN posted a small article about Contact, adding a bit more details about the game mechanisms and the general plot of the story.

I’m actually kinda relieved. A sequel to Earthbound is at once the most exciting, and the most terrifying thing I could imagine.
This contact game does look ultra sweet though. I love the mix of graphic styles.

Wow. It looks like Contact could end up being the first really good RPG for the DS. Now I’m waiting to hear about the combat system. (Please don’t let it be turn-based…)

I loved Killet 7 so much. Contact looks SOO good.

Killer 7* O_o
Anyway, I can’t wait until the counter reaches zero. I really want to see and hear more about this game. I’m not that disappointed that it had nothing to do with Earthbound 3 because I knew it probably wouldn’t be EB news anyway.

Yay for harvest moon
Fidi - 09.28.05 1:45 pm
The DS touch screen is perfect for harvest moon.

Uh, guys, you’re all forgetting that Mother 3 WAS announced in Japan back when Mother 1 + 2 for the GBA was. And we haven’t heard any news since of it being cancelled or anything, so chances are that it’s still being worked on, just verry slowly.
Also, man. Contact looks REALLY cool. The scans suggest a class system, and I love those.

And thus begins the slew of great japanese games that will never see the light of day over here…
Put it in the same pile as the first Fire Emblem on gba, Tomato Adventure and the Slime Morimori Dragon Quest game

Hmmmm, with all these “myterious” countdowns popping up, I feel the need to have my own…
NekoTsukimi - 09.28.05 3:13 pm
Some of the pictures on the 2nd scan make it look card based.
abraham - 09.28.05 3:34 pm
This game looks interesting
CoffeeMan - 09.28.05 4:51 pm
It seems more like there are just a tonne of different skills to learn. Lots of icons with “lvl” beside them, like cooking, fishing, hunting, racing, looking goth? and stuff. Definitely looks interesting.

RAGE!!!
Stubhy - 09.28.05 5:44 pm
As much as I like Earthbound, this is still really cool. Admit it.
handpuppet - 09.28.05 6:07 pm
The guy looks like Dr. Andonuts.
aechris - 09.28.05 7:53 pm
I can’t believe this is getting boos. It looks incredible. It may be my new #1 most anticipated DS game

“The guy looks like Dr. Andonuts”
Haha, I THOUGHT he looked familiar! Thanks for figuring that out for me.
