If they actually did release a new Earthbound game, well.. I don’t know what I’d do, exactly, but I know I’d have to change my pants after hearing about it.

Earthbound (Mother 2) was just that good.

I thought they’d already rumoured this with the release of 1 and 2 for GBA? Who knows.

Has anyone ever played Mother? Is it as good?

Mother is a decent game. As an NES RPG, I feel it’s not up to the standards of Dragon Quest III & IV or Final Fantasy III, but Earthbound fans would dig it.

I’m willing to give up my left pinky finger to make this true!

Mother 3 has been confirmed for quite a while.

And I actually think we WILL get it stateside. Us not getting Mother 1 + 2 over here was probably due to localization issues, if anything. I’m sure Nintendo knows that we’ll totally eat up a brand new Earthbound title. Well, I seriously hope they know.

Thores is correct. When Mother 1 & 2 released years ago on the GBA, there were commercials at the end saying Earthbound 3 would be for the GBA as well. Whether that remains to be seen, I think it will hit the DS.

The DS wasn’t around when those commercials came out, so it’s more than likely it made a move to the DS.

That is, if it exists.

I think a DS earthbound would be right on. Interactive battles and things seem right up it’s alley. I’m sure they could do all sorts of odd things!

DS EB makes sense, afterall they did start developing EB3 for the N64 way back when.

Thores — Mother 1 is already translated. In fact, one fan-translation group discovered it was ridiculously easy to plug in the text from the “Earthbound Zero” cartridge into the GBA release of Mother 1+2.

To suggest that Mother 1+2 isn’t out here because it needs translation is pretty weak. More likely, NOA still remembers the relative failure of Earthbound compared to the success they were expecting.

Zigg- I said there were probably localization issues, but I didn’t mean the problems anything to do with translating the game. I am well aware of Mother 1 / Earthbound Zero being available in full english.

I’m guessing the main problem was that NOA just didn’t want to go through the trouble of explaining “Earthbound Zero” to newcomers, combined with what they probably expected would be lackluster sales.

On another, more happy note, I’m learning Japanese in college, so, hell, I’ll just import the damn game! (This, of course, is only possible if I actually learn the language. Passing the class and learning the language are two entirely different things.)
