[Now| In Shock]

Controller Features:
-Revolution, with the help of two sensors on the side of the TV, will be able to sense where the controller is in full 3D space. Basically, its the gyro technology we all heard about, without the gyros.
- The bottom of the remote will allow plugins, like the one shown above. This will allow for standard Gamecube like play. You use the analog in your left hand like normal, and hold the remote in your right. In order to move the camera you simply twist your wrist.
- You can turn the controller 90 degrees to be used like an NES controller.
- Built in rumble feature.
- The four L.E.D.s at the bottom indicate which player (out of four) you are.
- The version show at TGS ran on batteries, but Nintendo may release it with some form of rechargable battery.
Check out these hands on impressions of the controller.

Crazy… Shocking… Cool… weird… awesome… WTF??!!
octorok - 09.15.05 11:16 pm
This is interesting. I’d like to see more of what it can do in action.
Kerry - 09.15.05 11:16 pm
THURSDAYTON REALIZED AT LAST.
4ndy - 09.15.05 11:17 pm
Oh my god they did it again, everybody was away off, god…i’m going crazy…….uh uh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
MAcRAmaN - 09.15.05 11:17 pm
It looks cool I can’t wait for a donkey konga bongo attachment
CalK - 09.15.05 11:17 pm
thats…. amazing. i have already heard alot of negative things about the controller… but i see its HUGE potential. i mean, its so simple; but it will work almost too perfectly. i applaud nintendo’s efforts
i mean i love the idea of turning it sideway to play nes + snes games… thats pure genious. its nothing like i thought it would be, but its awesome. truley awesome.
alex - 09.15.05 11:18 pm
i love it NINTENDO YOU RULESZ~~!
mcheddadi - 09.15.05 11:18 pm
OMG. What the.
I am speechless.
Eddie - 09.15.05 11:18 pm
You know.. Nintendo said they were going to do something totallly different, and they wern’t lying. I fear it might not be a great controller have third parties to multi-platform ports to, but the first part Nintendo games and exclusives are going to absolutely rock. I’m excited.
Vinnk - 09.15.05 11:19 pm
seriuosly , this is a revolution guys, even my father who is a crazy tv remote controller guy would try it, “clap claps clap” , that’s why I’m a nintendo fanboy, I told you ps3 and 360 will look obsolete and they do
MAcRAmaN - 09.15.05 11:20 pm
MCHEDDADI, Nintendo rules indeed. I must geet the controller.
Nintendofreak - 09.15.05 11:20 pm
…. Nintendo made me cry.
Poo - 09.15.05 11:21 pm
I’m just still in shock.
I don’t know whether to be excited or dissapointed. My first impression was…”WTF!?! No f’ing way! The made a damn remote control!” or “How the hell am I going to play a fighting game with it!?!”
I guess they can make a fighters gampad that attaches on to it? I don’t know. Its something people definately have to get used to. At least you can turn it sideways to play like an NES controller.
I’ll give it a chance…I guess. I can now see why they had to make the system backwards compatible.
Carlos Pita - 09.15.05 11:26 pm
I love Nintendo. They are so ballsy!! Theres some mad scientist stuff going on here in the best way possible!
BullTrue - 09.15.05 11:29 pm
“I guess they can make a fighters gampad that attaches on to it?”
I think we’ll see some controllers where the remote slots INTO the controller, Dreamcast with VMU style.
Very interesting, I’m worried if my arms get tired after extended play though.
Yavin - 09.15.05 11:41 pm
I was shocked and stunned as well. I hope this thing really does make awesome new games possible. If not, well… I am going to be very sad (and all the MS/Sony fanboys will have a field day).
Pikachelsea - 09.15.05 11:42 pm
I expect lots of WTFs, lots of skepticism and cynicism, lots of nintendo haters hatin, but the proof is in the…gameplay, and we’ll just have to wait.
Harukio - 09.15.05 11:50 pm
i m very interested in what sony & microsoft have to say about this news.
its amusing how much they [specially ms] are pushing hi-def, multimedia, loungeroom based entertainment so hard. and along comes nintendo with this - which only opens more possibilities for gaming in the coming years.
revolution indeed.
did anybody else read the ‘revolution’ branding was non-existent during the TGS? wonder what the end product will go by.
incognito - 09.15.05 11:56 pm
I just read the article and I think this controller is fully wicked. Congratulations Nintendo!
I can’t wait to give this thing a go! OOOOOOH SSSSSOOO excited!!
Eddie - 09.15.05 11:59 pm
I hate it why are the buttons so far away.
Vox-Pop - 09.16.05 12:30 am
It’s so cool!
I’m sold, speechless to say the least!
2buttons a directional pad, and the gyros.
And if you turn the controller 90 degrees to be used like an NES controller. I’m in love!
Thank you Nintendo!
Kenny - 09.16.05 2:29 am
amazing! can’t wait to get my hands on it!! 10 points to nintendo!!!
aso - 09.16.05 3:24 am
Huh… weird.
If you check out the last part of the video, after the guy shuts off the power and it zooms in on the controller, why is it the buttons are labeled “X” and “Y”, with “a” and “b” labeled, but not buttons, right below it. Strange…
Rynen10K - 09.16.05 3:33 am
Cuz its still not totally finalized. Nintendo says there still might be very minor changes before it launches. Probably go with the “x” and “y” because it would be confusing to have two sets of “a” and “b”.
Nick - 09.16.05 3:36 am
“Press A!”
*presses a*
*gets head bit off by zombies*
hokku - 09.16.05 3:40 am
what the fuuuccckkkkkkkkkkkkk
This is so not what i expected. Seriously. haha. wtff.
ALH - 09.16.05 3:46 am
I’m floored. Absolutely. In a state of shock. The video is the single coolest, most effective piece of marketing I’ve ever seen Nintendo come up with. That needs to be broadcast.
N Rumas - 09.16.05 3:46 am
Do you think the Zelda:TP delay was to implement the revolution controller? Swing your Link’s sword with the controller? I think if this rings true, they might release Zelda:TP first. After your done with it, then comes Nintendo’s new console which lets you play Zelda again with a different experience.
snocat - 09.16.05 3:48 am
I can already imagine hundreds of attachments lying around in my living room: 4 For all the PS3/XBOX 360 ports, 3 for all the SNES games, 4 for N64 games, 2 for that special game that requires its own attachments etc. etc. etc.
Sagan - 09.16.05 3:57 am
did anyone see this coming?
funtographer - 09.16.05 4:14 am
I WANT THIS NOW! ’nuff said!
botteu - 09.16.05 4:52 am
Do you think the motion sensor will provide the c-stick functions when you play Gamecube games? If so, I’m looking forward to getting a Revolution just to play through my Gamecube collection again. And I’m sure they’ll have alternative, motion sensored, control schemes for the retro games they release through the download system… I remember hearing they might be updated, but now I think that will mean more than just graphically.
Gavin - 09.16.05 4:54 am
There’ll be a strap-on piece for it so it’ll work like a power glove, I bet you.
Yaanu - 09.16.05 5:18 am
at ign, the editors pondered that the revolution controller would exclude many 3:rd party games, but as i recall there where four slots for gamecube controllers on the revolution, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
botteu - 09.16.05 5:28 am
Remember people, there are four hidden ports on the Revolution for connecting Gamecube controllers. This will be how you play Gamecube games, probably Snes games and possibly even EA games.
The XY/AB button labeling is so that when you turn the controller on it’s side it is labeled correctly for NES games.
Ben - 09.16.05 5:33 am
Just had a thought: Hold it sideways, got yourself a steering wheel. Oh the possibilities.
Ben - 09.16.05 5:36 am
Imagine this awesome device mixed with WIFI online capabilities…God They did it. Nintendo is choosing the right way, $ony and Micro$oft are about to feel the real fear. I’m sure Revo’s hardware will be a lot more powerful than what people think. And have you seen the new pictures and video? Have you noticed those HDTVs? Oohh more surprises are coming guys, Nintendo is BACK and 2006 will be its year.
DARK WARIO - 09.16.05 5:40 am
Yo, what about the L and R buttons when you have it at a 90 degree angle like that for SNES games?
GabrielTheDominican - 09.16.05 7:00 am
*appluad*
I keep going through every genre thinking of great new ways to play them.. this is gonna own, just closed the deal for me because I was already sold on download play.
.TakaM - 09.16.05 7:02 am
I LIKE THE CONTROLLER!! Looks good too! There are also Z1 and Z2 buttons in the back; Just a little note.
Name - 09.16.05 7:03 am
“Yo, what about the L and R buttons when you have it at a 90 degree angle like that for SNES games?”
Use the Gamecube controller?
Ben - 09.16.05 7:10 am
*one floor in fetal position*
the endless possibilities. It looks awkward, but seeing of how its played, just drops the jaw. I wonder what the PSFB are going to say, or the XBFB are going to do.
Truely Ninty has just changed the world of gaming.
eom - 09.16.05 7:40 am
Crikey, I need that thing in my hands. It’s really weird, but I could get used to it.
NekoTsukimi - 09.16.05 8:58 am
Yep just like the ds touch screen.
Nintendofreak - 09.16.05 9:22 am
Well I’ve learned to try not to criticise something until I try it, but it’s hard for me to imagine playing a standard adventure game with this comfortably
And my first reaction was also a huge WTF
JFK90787 - 09.16.05 9:39 am
I’ve had about 24 hours to digest this thing, and man, I’m still floored! Never saw it coming.
I can’t wait to get my hand(s) on it!
I wonder what Sony and Mircosoft are thinking right now?
Heltron - 09.16.05 10:04 am
Beleive it or not, this is exactly what I thought it was going to be - my brother asked me in an email what I thought it would be, and this pretty much what I thought. Although I didn’t imagine they would be able to pull off 6-degree-of-freedom at consumer prices. If they could manage an add-on for head-tracking (to adjust perspective), this would be the first consumer-ready VR system.
I’ve been doing VR programming for a few years, the best tracking systems are in thousands of dollars, anything less is kind of gimmicky. (google for “Ascension flock of birds” for the high end systems).
If you haven’t seen it before, the visbox (http://www.visbox.com/visbox.html) has similar controller, plus head tracking, and the visbox guy wrote a Quake level loader.
Ruan Caiman - 09.16.05 10:05 am
Iwata “…… their heads will spin…”
BullTrue - 09.16.05 10:08 am
I’m actually excited about owning a console for the first time in years. Thank you Nintendo.
Yeah, To all the haters, everyone needs to remember that the Revolution is compatible with gamecube controllers. You can play more traditional games on it as well. I’m sure there will be a more traditional controller released for more traditional games.
I don’t think Nintendo is trying to be #1 (I can see someone buying a PS3 and a Revolution, I know for certain right now I’m going to get both…), but this strategy almost assure them that they will be a VERY strong #2.
Rawr - 09.16.05 10:11 am
Ok. After seeing the keynote speech video and reading what alot of other developers, press and people from Nintendo had to say. I am starting to feel comfortable with this new controller. My main concern was playing regular type of games with this thing, but I am glad to know that there will be a regular controller that will attach to the new remote like one as stated by:
Jim Merrick, Nintendo Europe’s senior director of marketing.
“Eurogamer: How is the controller going to work with games that aren’t designed specifically for the Revolution - multi-platform titles and so on?
Jim Merrick: We’re producing a classic-style expansion controller, based on traditional designs like the Gamecube controller. It’s like a shell with a hole in the top into which you slot the freehand-style controller, and then you can play third-party ported games, and retro Nintendo games you’ve downloaded.
So there’s that option - but even while it’s inserted into the classic-style shell, the freehand controller will still be able to sense positioning and so on, so there are more options too.
It’s something that’s just as true for the DS - not every game uses the DS’s unique features. But some multi-platform titles do, like The Sims 2 for example. We hope other developers will do the same and look at ways their multi-platform titles can make use of the Revolution’s features.”
I am now breathing a sigh of relief and anticipate Nintendo’s upcoming innovations.
I especially got more excited after these statements from the article:
Eurogamer: Is the freehand-style controller your trump card, or have we got more exciting stuff to look forward to?
Jim Merrick: Let’s just say we have more surprises in store.
Carlos Pita - 09.16.05 10:44 am
I was one of the first people to see it when it came out yesterday. I think it’s very good because it allows for an infinate number of ways to use it. Think about it, some third party company comes out with a piece that you slide it inside and it plugs into the back. So when you’re playing it would look more like an overside Gamecube type controller (probably about the size of an X-Box controller) that has gyro-like technology. It has just about as much changablility as an electrical outlet does (vhich give me and probably others a very, very good idea..though I’m sure Nintendo has thought of it). You could plug in an extra remote-type thing to it to have a double lightsaber, or plug in a mic and have “Hey you Pikachu 2″, or plug in a camera type thing and have a “photoshop” grahpic editer on your Revolution! It give you an unlimited number of possiblilities.
Join the Revolution!
Lut - 09.16.05 11:30 am
It better have recharchable batteries…thats almost a deal breaker.
matt - 09.16.05 12:27 pm
When I saw the first pictures of the controller, my heart sank.
Then I watched the promo.
^^
I am quite satisfied that we have fully functioning and unique console on our hands here, ladies and gentlemen.
Next time, I’ll have to not judge on appearances and actually READ about the functionality.
Tokay - 09.16.05 12:54 pm
i think they need to add a microphone to the left hand stick controller, and what the fuck is this i read about sensors you have to put next to your TV? anymore info on this?
norebonomis - 09.16.05 1:47 pm
One comment I see that keeps being made is that they don’t believe that sports game will be difficult to play/make for the Revolution. To this, I would simply like to post a quote from John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts:
“Game control is essential – it’s the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made. While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel ‘freehand’ type of control has to offer.”
Colin - 09.16.05 2:21 pm
EDIT: They DO believe that sports games will be difficult to play/make.
Thats what I get for changing my thought process half-way through a sentence.
Colin - 09.16.05 2:22 pm
But hey, they’ll be more fun so it’ll be worth it. I always said, “what’s the point of playing a sports game with a controller…”
Joseph - 09.16.05 2:42 pm
and Guys, you’ll recognize a revolution owner by the size of his arms hahahahahahahhaha
MaCrAmaN - 09.16.05 3:53 pm
Why does the term “vibrator” como to mind when is see this?
Oscar - 09.16.05 4:32 pm
Nintendo wins. w00t!

:D Woo hoo!
masta shake - 09.16.05 6:30 pm
Very cool. Looks nice alongside the console too - I want one!
Steve Pick - 09.16.05 6:44 pm
im very disappointed.
its a remote.
how is this advancing gaming?
TAD - 09.16.05 7:50 pm
I can imagine Bill Gates seeing the Revolution controller and shee tting his panties. Later goin on to make a speach to the R&D team of Xbox360 and demanding more ‘creativity’.
Lol.
I didnt ’saw’ the controller until I viewed the teaser video. Wow. No words.
PS3 and 360 are so phuk’d. Pwned hard, n00bs.
360 placed the bet on Moore’s law. PS3 went with multiple personality disorder, err, cell chip.
Haha - 09.16.05 8:03 pm
Tad: It’s MUCH more than just a “remote”. Does YOUR TV remote have depth perception at any distance or angle? Didn’t think so.
“If they could manage an add-on for head-tracking (to adjust perspective), this would be the first consumer-ready VR system.”
… wow. Just hearing that made my skin crawl. omg… that is entirely possible.
I love Nintendo.
Pikachelsea - 09.16.05 9:59 pm
wow well not much to say except………………
NINTENDO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nikolai - 09.20.05 8:45 am
Now You Play With POWER………..Again,
Nintendo Revolution.
ED-win - 09.20.05 7:17 pm
they should have one of the buttons have it transform into an n64 controller, of something.
like when it’s connected to a certain attatchment.
mreddy1 - 09.25.05 7:31 pm
