And yes, Mario was technically around before 85. He was in Donkey Kong, but known as Jumpman. Then he was in the Mario Bros arcade game. However, Nintendo is celebrating this as his anniversary because this is 20 years from when the first Super Mario game, for the NES (well, Famicom in Japan), came out.

My first real memory is me sitting in my basement as a little kid playing Mario.
