US Micro Packaging

Pictures of the packaging for the US version of the GBM have sufaced and it looks pretty cool. Seems as if they took a page out of the iPod shuffle box design, with the window showing the innards of the box. Now I’ll just wait for that price drop and this badboy is mine!

I have a bad feeling that the Micro isn’t really going to do well at all. With the GBA, SP, and DS available, I can’t see there being a huge market for yet another GBA redesign.

You know, I was planning on getting a Micro when it was released. Imagining the size in my head didn’t seem to be too small and I’d heard great things about the screen quality…but seeing the pictures of the fashion models with it changed my mind.

It looks really tiny, even in their hands. Considering the fact that I’m 6′6″, I think I might have trouble handling it. :(

Tratch, Fashion Models are usually about your size anyways. When I get mine I’ll take pictures of it in my “little” brothers hands. He’s gigantor as well.

The faceplates shipped with the black model
look a lot nicer to me. The camoflouge one
doesn’t look very appealing. I actually like
the look of the famicom model in Japan the best,
gold and red colors are a rare and interesting
combination. I have to admit the micro does
seem a bit tempting.

well last night i just ordered the famicom micro from lik-sang, but i’ll probably keep that pretty safe. i am kinda pissed that the black one doesn’t come with a black faceplate. i mean, wtfuck is the deal with that? they had better release an nes version or at least a black faceplate separately. having played one, i think it’s a great size, so i’m really pumped.

I like the packaging. It’s odd, but nice.

I want this but considering I don’t have a DS yet I’d be crazy to spend $100 on it.

Wow…That looks good. I think it’ll sell well.
I would buy one except I already have an SP and I want to buy a DS.

I don’t get how anyone can’t see that this will be a huge success and why the hell everyone thinks that the market is so linear. Good games are not confined to new systems; in fact I’d argue that if executed properly every single generation of systems can co-exist because essentially they cater to a different generation.

Nintendo completely pulled the rug from underneath Sony’s feet on this. While Sony helps Nintendo craft out a distinct DS market, the GB market will thrive on as the more affordable, more portable market. There are now officially three worthy video game markets: portable, portable console and console. I expect this to eventually turn into portable small, portable medium and portable large. Where does the revolution fit into this?

Oh and the Micro will easily surpass the 4 million mark before fiscal end, in my opinion.

For the last time, a chunk of plastic and metal does NOT have sexual appeal.

I mean, that’s really what Sony went for with the PSP and what Nintendo is going for here- image.

I hope Nintendo of Australia keeps this packaging. I’m really excited about this product!!

Pikachelsea on September 14, 2005 at 6:01 am

The packaging doesn’t remind me of an iPod at all. iPod boxes don’t have see-through plastic and curved edges. About the only thing in common is… it’s black?

And Breakfastpills, for the last time, nobody here actually wants to have sex with the Game Boy Micro. Calling technology “sexy” is not a lude suggestion. Chill out :P

The only reason I could see for anyone to buy this was if it was cheap. Yet, it actually costs $20 MORE than the SP, despite playing the exact same games, which I find ridiculous. What is that for? Faceplates? Meh. $30 more bucks and you could have all the functionality of a GBA and the DS in one system.

N/A

Eddie on September 15, 2005 at 9:10 am

It isn’t ridiculous at all. The extra $20 is probably for the fact that there is better technology in the micro than the SP.

I bought a Famicom edition GBM on Saturday. It kicks more ass than I thought it would. The screen size is no problem – text is still easy to read – it’s sharp, bright, and feels a lot like a NES controller. Plus it’s got an adjustable backlight, which is awesome. Speaker’s a bit quiet though.
