[Winners, Dogs, Harrison and More]

Our first ever podcast is here!
First, a huge thanks to Octorok. He really brought this together with professionalism and enthusiasm. Without him, this may not have happened, or at least not have been of such high quality.
Im certainly the weakest link in the podcast, as I just dont think I have a great radio voice, but it can only get better, lol. It certainly was fun to make though.
We are really interested to hear your comments on this first episode. We are planning to have this as a weekly feature and are looking for ways to improve it. I think this is an awesome start and I have some ideas of where I want it to go for future episodes, but Id love to hear what you guys think.

Great! Any chance of a download link? The Putfile link just plays the file in the browser.
Mike - 09.05.05 11:05 am
Actually, a little poking around seems to put the mp3 file at http://x700.putfile.com/videos/24709524148.mp3 if you want to link to that.
Mike - 09.05.05 11:06 am
Yeah, well get it up as soon as Boon can upload the file.
Nick - 09.05.05 11:06 am
Strange how “pre-recorded not live at all radio” could ever get such a hip term as “podcast”.
Joseph - 09.05.05 11:06 am
hehe, i’m listening to it now, pretty awesome
CoffeeMan - 09.05.05 11:09 am
It sounds cool maybe ill make a podcast soon, how about it Nick?
Nintendofreak - 09.05.05 11:10 am
That’s because a podcast is an audio program that’s distributed by subscription, not radio.
Mike - 09.05.05 11:14 am
How do I syndicate it?
gregsabo - 09.05.05 12:09 pm
Do you have a podcast subscription url? I would love for Itunes to automatically download every 4color rebellion podcast! Call it a dream of mine…
Gabe Swarr - 09.05.05 1:26 pm
I say for a first podcast that was a huge success, very cool, keep it up. I really liked the Phil Harrison quotes. I’d also like to subscribe to it in Itunes if possible, I’m sure you’ll let us know. Can’t wait for the next one!
robotplague - 09.05.05 1:33 pm
I think that Octorok’s voice sounds a bit too artifical and unrealistic.
LSK - 09.05.05 1:35 pm
We’re working on a podcast subscription url, there should be one shortly I hope.
Bombs - 09.05.05 1:40 pm
Is that contra music i hear?….sweet
Naveed - 09.05.05 1:46 pm
nice job nick
mr.tt - 09.05.05 2:09 pm
Octorok should be a voice actor!!!
Btw, I liked the sound effects, but the opening music kinda…sucked. Better than nothing though *ahem*engadget*ahem*
sectumsempra - 09.05.05 2:49 pm
oh yeah, and about “hot biscuit” (lol) check out this:
http://img304.imageshack.us/img304/1838/nintendogs3qn.jpg
???? is that real?
sectumsempra - 09.05.05 2:53 pm
I loved that! Especially the fanboys bit.
Can’t wait for more.
I think what you need is a bit more discussion on games, like, have you and a few others connect over Google Talk, everyone records their own bit, send them to be edited together and you get a bigger summary of the news, and talk about games.
Jonathan - 09.05.05 3:20 pm
Hahahahahaha! Your accents make me laugh! Ma-ario! lol!
But seriously… good podcast.
zooba - 09.05.05 3:42 pm
sectumsempra:
Yes, that’s real. It happened at Nintendo’s press conference at E3.
Saint - 09.05.05 5:03 pm
Good first show. Only thing wrong with it is you keep blowing into the mic. Other than that you’re solid.
David Cameron - 09.05.05 5:47 pm
Love the Lion-O bit.
bob - 09.05.05 5:57 pm
Yeah, lol. Octorok suggested that I get a mic Pop Filter. I heard it, but thought he could fix it with his mad audio skills. Guess Ill be getting one of those for next week.
Nick - 09.05.05 5:58 pm
Nicely done, and a good level of professionalism. I have a few suggestions. As someone mentioned, the mic popping was a bit distracting. You can solve this with practice, or if your really serious, a quality microphone would help eliminate it.
As others mentioned, some discussion would be nice, and there’s a variety of ways to go about doing it. Some podcasts use Skype, and others use Teamspeak or other communication programs.
You can just use one person record the source for this part, or if you have someone willing to edit it, you can have everyone record while the discussion occurs, and the edit each of the seperate feeds together. The first way is easier, while the second one offers higher quality.
Ramez - 09.05.05 6:00 pm
^^^ We can use google talk, I think.
I disagree with the comment about best quality coming from individual recording sources. I dont dispute that individual source recording would offer greater quality in terms of sampling rate and such, but there would be all kinds of harmonic feedback caused by the varrying mediums of sampling, ie: since everyone would be using different means of recording, the buildup of background noise would be made exponentially worse with each added audio source, and eventually the overall product would be really noisy. But I guess I could just compress each one individually, and “mute” the dead spots. However, This point is moot when you consider the ultimate output medium is 22,050khz mono…
octorok - 09.05.05 6:52 pm
It is so well done!! I love the introduction.
Eddie - 09.05.05 6:58 pm
Octorok, you make a good point, I said higher, not best. Some definite audio processing software would be needed to try to balance everything. I was thinking more along the line of cutting up each source and splicing it together, rather than simply merging all the seperate sources. I know that would be extremely time consuming. I know some podcasts do this for quality and to eliminate the latency that usually arises when using VOIP technology.
Ramez - 09.05.05 7:30 pm
For a first podcast, it sounds excellent and very professional. Some suggestions I have for future 4CR podcasts is to divide the podcast into sections. Sections such as “4CR Website News” for the lastest on what is happening with the 4CR website”, “Gaming News” section that includes the lastest news about gaming, “Comic News” section giving us the most update information about the comic world, “Games Reviewed” section in which allows us to get input about what games that is worth our time and the Top Pick game, and lastly a section of “Games of the Week” and/or “Upcoming Games of Next Week” giving us a heads up about what games are coming or what games we missed. Keep up the great work!! This is a must listen podcast for me now.
Grey Crow - 09.05.05 7:34 pm
Grey Crow, i have my weekly Upcoming game feature each sunday or monday. We could include it in the podcast also, but that would have me changing the day I do my feature.
CoffeeMan - 09.05.05 8:42 pm
Good work on the podcast! I was pleasantly surprised! Keep up the good work ^^
aso - 09.05.05 8:57 pm
I haven’t listened to it yet, but I really do think that we should post this on iTunes. This would be great for those of us with an iPod and iTunes, because we could automatically dload the podcast! How lazy of us! But yeah, you just need to make it into an RSS feed, and we could submit it to iTunes. It would be great.
Joey_V - 09.05.05 10:14 pm
Awesome. Great job, everyone! I love the Kirby icon, too.
N Rumas - 09.05.05 10:59 pm
Some of the music breaks get a little long and boring.
Kinda crazy to hear your voice again Nick… hahaha. I could smell the sardonic wit heaped onto some of those words… hahahaha.
Mike Jungbluth - 09.06.05 1:29 am
Is there any way to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes? Because this was an awesome podcast.
Lord Turbine - 09.06.05 2:06 am
Great job dudes ! Hey Nick , u got a DJ voice … haha , i hope to hear more podcasts in the future
:D
|Youwei| - 09.06.05 2:11 am
damn b, i’m listening now and the first thing i nees to say is that iwata’s name is pronounced more like eewata.
the intro speach guy was a little overdone like it was trying too hard to sound professional. no offense to the guy, but i only expect that kind of fakeness from big-boy companies.
also, pissing and moaning about every comment sony makes about nintendo is still old. it’s just emphasized by the fact that this is basically a nintendo fan site.
that being said, wanna have a guest on the show? if you get it down to people talking together instead of one person going at a time, i’d love to join.
daniel schroeder - 09.06.05 9:50 pm
Yeah, we will be looking for guests and people who want to join in on rountable discussions soon enough.
You know that I am a Nintendo lover, but not a raging fanboy. The Phil Harrison skit was simply meant to be funny and entertaining…which I certainly thought it was. Hell, Id make fun of Yamauchi if he was still around and saying crazy stuff.
Nick - 09.06.05 10:36 pm
haha, omg Coffeeman sounds like a bad James Bond villain! He must be on more shows!
hokku - 09.07.05 3:07 am
=\
i’m on to you hokku, I know you’re trying to stop me from taking over the world!
CoffeeMan - 09.07.05 8:00 am
I go out of town for the holiday and come back to this! Great podcast! Keep it up! Good music, great work! Thanks
SavageS - 09.07.05 9:28 pm
After listening to your podcast again, I’d say it’s as good as the others out there (and the best when it comes to the subject matter). The music clips, sound fading, style and format sounds like it was well thought through and executed.
(I listen to my share of podcasts and I think it is a grand slam, especially for your first one.)
