I’ve waited so long for this. It’s so…beautiful!
oh yeah, and really funny too.
hokku - 07.29.05 6:07 pm
I was the first to submit it .. nevermind
o_O - 07.29.05 6:09 pm
If you had posted it in the [Submit News] thingy I would have seen it and given you credit.
Nick - 07.29.05 6:11 pm
AWESOME!!!! I can’t wait!
Zachary - 07.29.05 6:13 pm
It spread really quick. Shortly after I read it and I saw two people had already submitted it.
The credit doesn’t matter anyway, just watch the awesomely amazing trailer and be happy!
hokku - 07.29.05 6:14 pm
Hahaha, that’s a funny trailer right there.
Dejital - 07.29.05 6:19 pm
yeah very nice, looking forward to it and new DS colors !!!!!!
Godzilla - 07.29.05 6:29 pm
this commercial was well done. i like it. the CGI world at the end looked pretty nice as well. i’m stoked.
robotplague - 07.29.05 6:53 pm
this..is so lame…it’s soo like wtf…like anyone of you understood it, no seriously did anyone of you understood it?
mcheddadi - 07.29.05 6:58 pm
That’s pretty cool. I liked the bongo music, too.
Kammo - 07.29.05 6:58 pm
It’s beautiful, man! *reaches for kleenex* I… uh got something in my eye, that’s all.
Zell - 07.29.05 6:59 pm
Nice ad.
Blake - 07.29.05 7:12 pm
I think a lot of you haven’t really absorbed what that advertisement is trying to show. That guy is practically in the desert. Why would WiFi hotspots be out there. I have a really strange feeling that this WiFi connection is going to be much bigger than people are claiming.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions though and start another megaton or OMG IGN IS GOING TO SHOW THE REVOLUTION AT E3 ON THE THIRD DAY AT 3:33 PM and REGGIE IS ARIES.
Ehem.
VideoGamerJ - 07.29.05 7:17 pm
I think they were just saying people from anywhere in the world can play together. Of course they exaggerated a little bit(a banana peel in the desert spinning out cars in a city) so don’t think that you’re actually going to be able to play the DS online in the middle of the desert.
It’s not that hard to understand. Don’t over analyze it guys, just appreciate it.
hokku - 07.29.05 7:22 pm
And so… it begins.
4ndy - 07.29.05 8:02 pm
So many good things about that advertisement. Is it just me or is Nintendo one of a few companies to actually use a female voice over for what is oft labelled as a bloke’s product?
Eddie - 07.29.05 8:19 pm
*sniff*
Nintendo…how you’ve evolved.
100 years on and there still going!
God Bless Nintendo
Ben J - 07.29.05 8:29 pm
Was cool but I’m sure 80% of the people in the theater will be a little confused at the video. Too bad no goodmovies come out this weekend, at leas tI haven’t seen Willy Wonka yet

mched i understood it perfectly you mean you dont0_0
mr.tt - 07.29.05 9:04 pm
the idea in this AD is the Chaos theory, a butterfly flying could cause a hurricane in the other face of the Earth, it’s kinda creepy !!!!
SKEPTIX - 07.29.05 9:12 pm
>> Is it just me or is Nintendo one of a few companies to actually use a female voice over for what is oft labelled as a bloke’s product?
I don’t know - the DS is one of the first handheld systems that I’ve seen that a pretty greta portion of ladies are enjoying. I mean, just check out the DS Livejournal community - so many of those posts are by girls.
It’s pretty cool stuff - Nintendo’s still managed to appeal to both men and women with their products.
mitch - 07.29.05 9:45 pm
Skeptix, if you dont know jack about chaos theory, dont try to claim you do. the idea in this ad is that people can do stuff over a long distance. god, why is it so hard to understand (like say drop a bannana in mario kart)
on a differnet note, its a pretty cool ad
Ghostly - 07.29.05 10:23 pm
waw Ghostly you’re so wise , please enlighten us with your knowledge…
SKEPTIX - 07.29.05 10:59 pm
Yeah, I saw this a little while ago on another site.
I really thought it wasn’t funny at all. It felt long and stretched to get by a punchline that so very few people would understand, and wasn’t very funny to begin with. This will probably just confuse a lot of people, rather than excite them.
Zork - 07.29.05 11:14 pm
thanks ZORK, finally some good sens, and you’re right this ain’t funny at all .
SKEPTIX - 07.29.05 11:33 pm
“I really thought it wasn’t funny at all.”
Uh, why do you think it was meant to be funny? It was meant to catch your attention.
NoBullet - 07.29.05 11:42 pm
I don’t think it’s supposed to be funny, it’s more of an “oh!”
and then a lil “hmm, I wonder what that’s about”
and then some “yay! bongos”
and lastly “when’s the dang movie gonna show?!”
Harukio - 07.29.05 11:52 pm
yeah, it’s a curiousity focused commercial, which is understandable because it’s the first commercial and is meant to catch peoples attention. (like the ambigous Stella commercials and the first DS static commercials)
Too straightforward and it’s boring.
Harukio - 07.29.05 11:55 pm
I meant, if it was more straightforward no one would remember it.
)
(sorry bout the trippple post
Harukio - 07.29.05 11:56 pm
I liked it but they need to fucking spam this ad EVERYWHERE and plaster ‘FREE’ and ‘ONLINE’ in every frame possible
James K - 07.30.05 12:56 am
I saw this and it’s great. I’m one of the few people who really like Nintendo’s adverts.
And now I just realised that the banana peel and cars is a reference to Mario Kart because of the screenshots of it at the end.
Zooba - 07.30.05 1:22 am
I dunno about that, Zooba. You’re defnitely not alone. I’ve always appreciated their ads. I’m especially fond of the new Gamecube, GBA and DS ads. The dark ripple in the Gamecube circle on the cover, or ripple in GBA SP D-Pad. I think they started pumping them out right after Metroid Prime 2? Or maybe just before the DS came out. Not sure. In any case, they’re beautifully done and I love the voice work, including the “Gamecube” whisper.
I’m excited to see Nintendogs TV spots.
Zell - 07.30.05 4:08 am
Cool ad
. Anyone know if theres going to be any bother with imported DS’s and eventually connecting to this service..or heck, even to other (european) Ds’s? I’m thinking of grabbing a white DS in a couple of months time but i dont want to have any problems with this stuff just because i imported x_x
ALH - 07.30.05 6:15 am
I also enjoy the GBA commercials with the D-Pad (i think), Cube commercials (when I see them), and the SP commercials with the person playing the game and stuff growing in the background. The commercials I didn’t like were the static DS commercials (although they did stand out from other commercials which was important). I must say, I really liked the commercials “dust” “gravy”? and “breath”?
What I really want to know is where all my Emerald Nut commercials went.
Harukio - 07.30.05 8:16 am
cool i got credit too for this submission!
4CR kicks tail!
norebonomis - 07.30.05 12:04 pm
Very cool advert and one that made me want to go buy a DS today!
leon - 07.30.05 12:37 pm
Harukio - 07.30.05 8:16 am - “What I really want to know is where all my Emerald Nut commercials went.”
Hahaha “Egyptian Navigators love Emerald Nuts!”
Zell - 07.30.05 2:31 pm
In reply to the people earlier on questioning the span of the wi-fi and the bloke in the desert who is obviously without a wi-fi hotspot:
the advert is not a literal portrail of online gaming with the DS, it merely plays with the concept of being able to affect people on the other side of the world [the concept which is at the core of online gaming.
As for the people saying that the advert is pretty confusing and people won’t understand it:
It’s a teaser. They can be as vague as they like. Their primary objective is to create a talking point and prepare the public for the final advertising campaign which is more details-intensive.
ropi - 07.30.05 2:39 pm
Excellent! I hope I get to see it on the big screen . . . does anyone know on which movies it’ll be shown before?
~ Lily
Lily S. - 07.30.05 3:54 pm
Happy to see it, but I hate ads like that.
J44xm - 07.30.05 4:04 pm
For those who cannot understand the whole thing of the trailer, this is how it goes.
Of the teaser in the beggining, it was a conceptual idea of when someone throwing a banana on the ground.
In this prospect, in relation to MARIO KART which in this basis is the model for the Nintendo DS Wifi, it shows the banana making a slip on the car in the next scene.
“For every action, there’s an equaland opposite reaction.”
By this quote, it means on the Nintendo Wifi network, someone from another country playing MARIO KART has an effect to ther players in the game.
KJA - 07.30.05 6:19 pm
I JUST SAW THIS! The guy on the beginning was a KART! SUBLIMINAL! HAHAHAA
KJA - 07.30.05 6:21 pm
Most of you won’t know this but in India (and in many other parts of the world) there is a sport called Cricket. Bhuvan is the name of the lead character in an oscar nominated Indian movie named Lagaan. The movie was about cricket. Bhuvan was the captain.
Ganguly is the present day real life Indian cricket captains surname. His full name is Sourav Ganguly. An Indian cricket fan working at Nintendo has come up with this.
Venkat - 07.30.05 8:05 pm
Hmm, there must be a secret message hidden in that name!
Umm, the Revolution controller is shaped like India and, uh, it has buttons with the letters ‘b’, ‘h’, ‘u’, ‘v’, ‘a’, and ‘n’. Also, it makes sounds like a cricket and will respond to being called “Ganguly”.
Now I’m going to head on over to the Nsider forums and see if anyone else has already thought up my rumor(which they probably have since they’re insane over there).
hokku - 07.30.05 10:23 pm
I think this is what Nintendo should of done a while ago. Still, nice they’ve finally realised there is good in online gaming.
Doh!
Steve Pick - 07.31.05 4:36 pm
It was so amazing.
Nintendofreak - 08.01.05 1:21 pm
