Ive been hearing quite a bit of good buzz about the indie comic, Street Angel. Up until the other day though, all I had ever seen was a few pics of the beautifully designed covers. Well, poking around the indie section of my local comic book store I managed to snag all five issues.
What a fun comic. Im not usually into silly comics like this, but Street Angel is pretty good. The third issue was a little too bizarre for me, but the other four are great.
Basically, a little dirty skater punk girl, called Street Angel, kicks the ass of tons of ninjas and protects her city’s streets from a bunch of weird characters. I dont often actually laugh out loud while reading a comic, but there were a few times I did while reading this book.
Its a fun comic that is well produced, full of humor, and features a cool lead and supporting characters. If you are looking for something besides tights and spandex, check it out.
Also, after reading the newest issue I discovered that they are going to release a trade paper back containing the first five issues and some bonus material. Gah! Oh well, I missed out on the bonus stuff, but you guys can check it out.

Thats funny, my friend just picked up the trade last week and was raving about how good it was. He even emailed the creators because they come from his small hometown in Michigan. Gotta borrow and read it this week.

Yeah, the artist on this lives in Pittsburgh now and does this drawing jam/ discussion thing with some other awesome indie artists in the area every week on new comic day. Farel Dalrymple, and a guy who works with Harvey Pekar on American Splendor are a couple of the other bigger names that frequent it. I keep meaning to get down there some day to hang, since they are always open to new artists in their mix…
But yeah, this comic is great fun with the 3 issues I have. Gonna have to get that trade.

This looks very cool, I’ll have to check it out when I get some cash.

I am so clueless about comics nowadays. I stopped reading them when I went to university because it became too expensive to spend so much money every week on them, and of course when you go to uni, you find a lot of other stuff to spend money on (like nights out and such). I suppose I could get into TPBs, but I’ve been out of it for so long, that getting back into comics is daunting.
This one does look good, so perhaps I’ll keep an eye out for the TPB.

I totally agree! “Street Angel” is awesome — and after taking a chance by picking it up randomly at my local comic shop, I regret nothing! Do yourselves a favor and spread the kung-fu-kicking, skateboarding-grinding, uzi-shooting, katana-weilding, homeless orphan action hero love!

i think it’s issue 2 or 3, but check the letters section at the end. there’s one asking about a genesis game the ninjas are playing, and there’s a picture of a dog near the letter. that’s my letter! wooooo!!!
