Games Of June

Well, E3 has come and gone and now everyone is dying to play some games. Good thing June is packed full of releases for every system. There are some really great games coming out this month…

Killer 7 (06.07.05)(067.07.05)

Sorry folks, I just found out the Killer 7 has been delayed by a month. Doh. But…check this out: Killer 7 just got a 36/40 in Famitsu! Dengeki GameCube also gave it a 26/30 last week. Sounds like we have a winner.

One of the most anticipated games of the month is also one of the most mysterious. Killer 7 looks fantastic, but how does it play? Capcom has kept a very tight leash on this game. Either they are waiting to drop a bomb on us (a good thing) or a giant dud (a bad thing). Like Resident Evil 4 before it, Killer 7 is definitley one of the more ‘mature’ titles for the Cube. Im really hoping this one turns out well.

We also have the inevitable tie games from the big movies hitting in June. Batman Begins (06.13.05) takes a more stealthy approach to Batman, whereas Fantastic Four (06.27.05) seems to be all about the Gauntlet style beat-em-up gameplay. One interesting thing is the people they managed to get to do exclusive songs for the FF game soundtrack.

Chart topping modern rock band, Taking Back Sunday, lead the team with Error Operator for Mr. Fantastic; hip-hop veterans, Jurassic 5, rock out Clobberin Time for The Thing; punk-rock up-and-comers, The Explosion, light up Im on Fire for The Human Torch; and all-girl punkers, Go Betty Go, blast out the cerebral tour de force Everywhere for The Invisible Woman.

Kirby Canvas Curse (06.13.05)

This is the big one. From what Ive heard, this is the killer app weve all been waiting for. Imagine Yoshi Touch and Go as a fully fleshed out platforming and youll get the basic idea. Canvas Curse is like previous Kirby games, except this time you control Kirby by drawing rainbow paths for him to roll on. A bit like Uniracers and a lot like Kirby, this game is going to be awesome.

Meteos (06.27.05)

Made by the same people who made Lumines for the PSP, Meteos is said to be a puzzle gamers dream. But, this game is no slow walk in the park. Meteos is all about frantic action and crazy puzzle speed. Levels are short and intense. The game also incoporates a planet system where each level is a different planet. Each planet has its own attributes like gravity, which factor into gameplay. Already being called a classic.

Goldeneye: Rouge Agent (06.13.05)

Beating Metroid Prime Hunters to the DS, Goldeneye is the first full FPS for the system. The videos have looked pretty good, but the console version of this game was a bomb. So, I guess we will have to wait and see what the reviews are like.

Bomberman DS (06.21.05)

A new entry for this classic franchise. Using both screens for multiplayer action looks very cool. There is also 8 player single-cart download play. And, if you dont have any friends, you can play with 7 bots. Sounds very cool. No Wifi though, but dont worry, it will be in the sequel, which has already been announced.

Yoshi: Topsy Turvy (06.13.05)

Another game using the rotation ability, Yoshi Topsy Turvy. I hear that the game is fun, but flawed. From what Ive read its a game for the younger crowd…the ones who will overlook the the little problems and just enjoy the game for what it is. I may not be that young anymore, but I can still do that. Might have to check this one out.

The GBA will also be seeing versions of Batman Begins (06.1305) and Fantastic Four (06.27.05) as well as a port of a classic SNES game, Disney’s Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey and Donald (06.14.05).
