Hello Player 1
First and foremost, all of this information is just a rumor. It was posted in this blog by a group of supposed developers working on the Revolution. They’ve posted info before that they said Nintendo had forced them to remove. This is the latest information they claim to have permission to release:
-Nintendo’s Next-Gen console WILL be the most powerful console of all time.
-Downloadable 1st party games are FREE.
-The controllers will have an optional gyroscopic feature to them.
-The console will ship in the price range of $150-200 USD.
-There will be 50 games available at the launch of the Revolution.
-Super Smash Bros: Fire will ship with the Revolution as a BONUS.
Some of it seems far fetched, but really all we can do is wait and see.

Nintendo already said that the Revolution will only be three times more powerful than the Cube.

“Nintendo already said that the Revolution will only be three times more powerful than the Cube.”
Well yeah, but it’s still up in the air as to what that actually means. There’s no units in there to compare, so who knows what they’re actually talking about.
How many “times” more powerful was the GCN than the N64?
Harukio on May 29, 2005 at 4:51 pm
I hope the price range is around those numbers. That would be nice.
Titi from Paris on May 29, 2005 at 4:53 pm
Those rumours sure sound appealing but rather than true I think they’re more likely to have been created from people who liked to persuade nintendo to realise them…
spin_cycle on May 29, 2005 at 5:16 pm
oh man all of those rumours sound awsome, i hope they all come true, i mean all the main games i want to download anyway just so happen to be 1st party games anyway! plus mabye they were just stating that the CPU will only be 2-3 times more powerful as for the graphics processor well who knows mabye it will be super powerful
Dweep on May 29, 2005 at 5:29 pm
“Nintendo already said that the Revolution will only be three times more powerful than the Cube.” confirmed to be an rumor, posted before e3 by IGN. some ninty empoyee confirmed this.
fushi on May 29, 2005 at 5:30 pm
These rumors border absurdity.
krypt on May 29, 2005 at 5:32 pm
They don’t seem that farfetched.
I can understand the free first party games if you have to pay for storage (memory cards). Nintendo can make it’s money that way.
The pack in sounds feasible, I think it would be handled like the SNES launch though (with and without/price adjusted accordingly). That would give people a sample of the system’s graphical and online capabilities.
I think the price will be at least $199 if not $250.
The 50 games thing sounds like the downloadable classics. It is suicide to release that many games at launch. You only have so much market share to sell your game to at a launch so more than 20 is going to hurt sales in the publisher’s eyes.
…and the ATI and NVIDIA wars continue. I’m sure ATI wants to reclaim the top spot again as it did when the 9700 Pro was released, but can it with Nintendo wanting to keep the price low? The ART-X team did some amazing stuff with the GC for the price it was released at, but I doubt they will topple the PS3. Nintendo is going to have to be creative to make graphics look good without pushing a zillion polygons around, with tricks, is definitely possible.
Dweep on May 29, 2005 at 5:36 pm
read IGN Revolution FAQ to see that REV is NOT 2-3 times more powerful than the cube
Zell on May 29, 2005 at 5:46 pm
Am I the only one who thinks two or three times more powerful than the ‘cube is quite impressive? Not to mention much more realistic than “35 times more powerful than the PS2.”
I think two or three times more powerful than games like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Resident Evil 4 and Zelda: Twilight Princess will be damn good in my book.
OddJob on May 29, 2005 at 5:50 pm
The revolution being both more powerful and less expensive than the other two makes no sense whatsoever. If the system were actually more powerful, you can be absolutely sure they would have touted that fact at E3. They would have won the entire console war right then and there, while watching the other two companies curl up into a ball and cry.
OddJob on May 29, 2005 at 5:54 pm
Zell,
I completely agree. Imagine having three times the detail in the Metroid Prime series, or the Resident Evil series (as you mentioned). I’d be pretty damned happy with that.
Sean on May 29, 2005 at 6:56 pm
Sounds like a fanboy to me. Its pretty doubtful it will be cheaper yet more powerful than the PS2, unless they mean “poweful for developers to program on”. But a return to bundled games is OK by me.
drGherbik on May 29, 2005 at 6:58 pm
I think i’ll wait for Nintendo to officialy put out press releases before I go on the vague word of some random blog on blogspot.
Props to them for taking the time though.
Zork on May 29, 2005 at 7:04 pm
Well, I still don’t blieve Sony’s claim that their system is “35 time more powerful than PS2.” Sony was actually caught in a lie at E3. One of the demos they showed was called “in game footage” but when the developers were asked, they said it was cinematic. I have very little respect for Sony…
hokku on May 29, 2005 at 7:14 pm
And for the PS2 they said it would be capable of “Toy Story level graphics”.
Zork on May 29, 2005 at 7:17 pm
^ Yes, excatly… Sony is notorious for lying and misleading about the capabilities of their hardware so that they can sway fans. Its a very crooked marketing scheme.
hokku on May 29, 2005 at 7:39 pm
yeah, Nintendo may not have “wowed” us, but they didn’t lie either.

rumors lead to speculation…
speculation leads to… suffering.

TOO
GOOD
TO
BE
TRUE
(i’m always hopeful, though. just don’t set yourself up for disappointment)
btnheazy03 on May 29, 2005 at 7:58 pm
Plus, it can’t be the most powerful console of all time if it has the same price as a DS and less the price of a PSP :|
Zell on May 29, 2005 at 9:59 pm
I like that Nintendo is not getting mixed up with this Microsoft vs. Sony penis measuring contest. I think it’s really stupid and has made me lose some of the little respect I still had for both. Nintendo has always seemed to have some self respect and I admire that about them.
fullmetalpwnz0r on May 29, 2005 at 10:34 pm
microsoft vs sony penis measuring contest!! lmao, thats damn funny!
namor7 on May 30, 2005 at 12:24 am
This guy is probably really full of it, but it would be so awesome to see the Rev release with a bonafide pack-in game. Bring it on Nintendo!

SithLord on May 30, 2005 at 8:54 am
I doubt it would be released with a full game. I demo a la MP: Hunters sounds right. I could see a SSB demo that allows you to ONLY play online being part of the package.
I agree with KRYPT on the 50 games at launch comment. I see 10-15 games at lanuch and the rest being old school NES, SNES and N64 games for download. No way there is more than 20 games available at launch.
LSK on May 30, 2005 at 8:59 am
Okay. Let me get this straight.
-Nintendo’s Next-Gen console WILL be the most powerful console of all time.
Doubtful, but I guess computers don’t count. This seems more like something Sony or Microsoft would do, not Nintendo.
-Downloadable 1st party games are FREE.
I hope this doesn’t up the cost of Revolution games. Besides, servers are expensive. How will this be supported?
-The controllers will have an optional gyroscopic feature to them.
That makes sense, in concept, given what we’ve been hearing. But if it’s optional, that means it isn’t required to be used for games. I can just imagine the opening to Wario Ware Revolution!
-The console will ship in the price range of $150-200 USD.
I’m guessing 200. Even though Nintendo deliberately marks down their consoles and makes its profit on games, the later mentioned pack-in and free downloads make this seem unreasonable.
-There will be 50 games available at the launch of the Revolution.
Half will be delayed. Nintendo probably will not be overseeing more that 8 of them, and we all know what happened with the N64…
-Super Smash Bros: Fire will ship with the Revolution as a BONUS.
That would justify the cost of the Revolution alone. Although I think they’re underpricing the Revolution, and they are going to have to make games more expensive if they want to stay alive. Well… there’s always the game downloading. I assume options will vary from time to time with the downloads.
Overall, I’m not sure this rumor is true. But we’ll see.
How many “times†more powerful was the GCN than the N64?
By Chuck on 05.29.05 4:46 pm
I believe that the GCN was 128 bit and the N64 was 64 bit.
Zork on May 30, 2005 at 1:33 pm
I hate it when people measure the power of game systems in “bits.” Its a little more complicated than that…
zooba on May 30, 2005 at 2:34 pm
I can understand the ‘fifty games at launch’. If 40 of them are downloadable, with maybe 10-20 being free, the Nintendo Revolution will do quite well.
Mike on May 30, 2005 at 3:25 pm
revolution facts!!!!
the revolution will be more powerful than any machine ever to be created! it will have 2000 games at launch, and you can download every game ever! also they’re giving away one of their most anticipated games for free!
get real. these rumours are pretty unbelievable.
hokku on May 30, 2005 at 3:41 pm
I heard there’s a proprietary A/V output cable that you plug in behind your eye!!! It doesn’t make the image appear any clearer or in 3D, but it goes into your eye none-the-less!
jjgoreha on May 30, 2005 at 5:42 pm
I don’t know about some of you peeps, but I adore all these ridiculous rumors. I think they’re fun to find, re-post, and discuss. Are they believable? Not all of them, of course not. But they sure are making for an interesting online community.
vakerorokero on May 30, 2005 at 6:00 pm
“I believe that the GCN was 128 bit and the N64 was 64 bit.”
I guess that means twice as powerful if you measure in processing chips so that means revolution will probably be 512 bits…
Whatever, please stop mentioning BITS anymore of Sony and Microsoft are going to start with that allover.
Ben on May 31, 2005 at 9:28 am
You cannot measure a consoles power in bits. The Xbox is 32bit, the psone is 32bit and all PCs except the newest are 32bit. Are they all the same power? No.
As for these rumours I am now very sceptical after the whole NGame letdown. Bundling a game with the console is an excellent idea especially if it’s online. Remember what Tetris did for the GB.
spin_cycle on May 31, 2005 at 3:09 pm
and what the metroid demo seems to have done so far, i mean everyone who has played that thing pretty much wants the final version now, i think that was pretty smart on nintendo’s part
Greg on June 4, 2005 at 2:18 pm
LOL. Yeah right!
