I’ve heard some pretty good things about the Final Fantasy concerts that happened a little while ago, so this is probably gonna be awesome. These people are taking music from all sorts of videogames and putting them into one concert. If you go to the front page of the site you will see where you can put in your information and request games to add to the playlist. That’s a pretty nifty idea. So far they’ve only announced a show in LA on July 6th, but if that’s successful you know they’ll announce more real quick.
Now from what I understand it’s just a concert with the music and orchestra, but if you go to the images section of the site you will see a stage sketch that suggests there will be a show that goes along with it. Interesting.

I recieved a CD in a Nintendo Power a [few] year(s) ago that had about 20 tracks (many of which were medleys), of songs from various Nintendo games. All the songs were done by a live orchestra in front of a live audience. It was really good
. I could rip all (or some) of it if anyone is interested.

Are you talking about the Orchestral Game Concerts? I’ve got 5 of those. Very nice collections of a number of game themes, the Metroid and Star Fox stuff is pretty killer.
Also, I noticed the executive producer for these shows is Tommy Tallarico. This lowers my expectations by about 99.9%.

and as for videogame concerts, i’m still banging my head against the wall for missing the FF concert in LA last year, so i’ll make sure not to miss the future concerts.

drop me an email (emailben[at]gmail) or get me on irc and I’d be glad to host those tracks for everyone.
The whole connection to Tommy Tallarico really makes this a bitter sweet event. I hope they come to Chicago none the less.

Actually, I believe the album CHEMICALBOMB is talking about is the “Super Smash Bros Melee In Concert” thing that Nintendo did in Japan. If there’s any confusion about what it is, the title should explain it. The cool thing was that since the game covered in stages and music a fairly comprehensive Nintendo history, the album did too. Koji Kondo was behind the whole thing and it is just awesome.
Nintendo was also nice enough to give a free copy to anybody who bought a certain issue of nintendo power. I beleive the issue was released at some point not too long after Eternal Darkness was released. Majora’s Mask, Dr. Mario, Ice Climbers, and all your somewhat more obscure Nintendo favorites were also covered.
It was my album of 2003

I would have to say, drGherbik, that I’d give my award of ‘96 to Metallica’s “Load”. Metal purists shouldn’t hate, i think it’s a cool album.

I don’t remember my album of ‘96, however my car of ‘96 was the ford probe, my cheese of ‘96 was the gouda, and dog of ‘96 was the greyhound. The awards ceremony was a tear jerker.
