Today I watched Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events on DVD. Even though it receieved lackluster reviews from critics, I enjoyed. I liked it far more than any of the Harry Potter movies. It had a wonderful macabre feel. Almost a Tim Burton version of Alice In Wonderland. It had the same kind of random, yet thrilling and unknown quality of Alice In Wonderland, with great Nightmare Before Christmas like visuals.
Speaking of the visuals; fantastic. The movie was beautifully shot and the entire design, from wardrobe to set was great. All of the characters were great, although at times Jim Carrey was almost too much. All of the kids were great though.
If youre looking for a little fun, with a bit of a dark side to it, check out the DVD. I thought about picking up the books before, but now Im defintely going to. I certainly hope they make a second movie.
Oh, I also forgot to mention how awesome the ending credit animation was for this movie. It was in the style of paper cutout animation and it looked terrific. I could watch a whole movie like that.
