Who cares what the box looks like, the controller is all that matters.

I like everything about it, except the design. Thats fugly. However, I have no doubt that nintendo will come up with something very elegant.

Yes, I think that the control is where the real ‘revolution’ will come into play. I have high hopes, something that is as revolutionary as the SNES controller was at the time – which is the prototype for the Playstation controller and pretty much every subsequent controller. (4-button diamond layout, R/L buttons.) It was HUGE. Marketshare may not reflect this in the console industry, but this business seemingly hinges on the innovations Nintendo makes. Mario 64, Zelda 64, and Goldeneye 64 are still the blueprint for the majority of 3D games that come out today, and if it wasn’t for the N64’s expiremental “dual analog” (though it was analog/digital) setup, where would games be now in terms of controllers? Maybe still using the D-pad, which Gunpei Yokoi of Nintendo R&D fame invented… as well as portable gaming.
Yes, let them come. Let them bash us – withouth us there would be no life. Let them wait for Nintendo to make the next step and then try to steal and market their ideas with more sex and violence. I call them “Jerry Bruckheimer games”; the quality is what matters – and since the NES we all know that has been Nin’s top priority with 3rd and 1st party releases. Going to the extent of helping 3rd parties with development and publishing.

So bide your time just a little while longer, Nintendo faithful. We don’t sling bad words back at them, because we don’t need to. Actions speak louder than words, and a couple of years into the next console cycle the record will speak for itself.

If the controllers are wireless, why would they need ports? The wireless signal could even be compatable with the Wavebird, so Gamecube controller ports could be absent. Just a small dial for selecting the channel would be needed.

TechVW: Nice use of common sense…go figure I didn’t ask that question.

Seems real stupid now…

I don’t care what it looks like, just how it plays.

Taps, you’re right–

D pad instead of joystick.
4 button layout.
Shoulder buttons.
Vibration feedback.
External memory cards.
Analog control.

Anybody have others?

I wonder where they came up with the logo behind the letters “Nintendo Revolution”.

N/A

matt on April 14, 2005 at 4:41 pm

I’ve seen the logo before.

drGherbik on April 14, 2005 at 5:05 pm

I’m guessing they’d leave a few controller ports on the box. If this is going to be backwards compatible with GC games, it’ll open up the option to use the current non-wireless controllers and keep the GBA/GC connectivity available.

“The Power pad” became the “Dance Dance Revolution”.
“the Zapper”.
Battery-saved games. (remember, when memory cards didn’t exist??)
wireless controllers.
Portable gaming.
“side scrollers”.
“rpgs”.
“Video game magazines”.

N/A

taps on April 14, 2005 at 6:45 pm

That’s an important one, because before Super Mario Bros, games did not scroll. Everything took place on one screen.
-and to further video game magazines: Nintendo really set up the entire North American gaming press, at least they showed everybody how by doing it the way things are still done today. Nintendo Power has tremendous impact on American and European game journalism.
Also, Squaresoft, Enix, the list goes on and on.

BTW, I can totally dig the logo, Nin seems to be coming into their own with their preferred color schemes.

Hmmm… I am not sure of the timing of the two games, but it seems to me that Pitfall was a “side scrolling” platform game. Did Super Mario Bros. come first? I don’t think so.

I really think this a fake cause it says “or press open button to widen the slot for cartriges”. I dont really think the big N would use cartridges for their next system.. Or wouldd they??

Thores on April 14, 2005 at 7:34 pm

That Guy, this IS a fake. It’s only speculation from fans right now.

I do like it !!! and remember that nintendo stated that the revolution will look more like the N64 than the GC, but I hate the case color.

N/A

silversurfer on April 14, 2005 at 9:02 pm

and one more thing the size is irrealistic , it is huge !!! I do not think that the revolution will be that big.

N/A

Kamalot on April 14, 2005 at 11:21 pm

Pitfall didn’t scroll.

In Pitfall, you ran to the right edge of the screen only to appear on the left hand side of the next screen.

Uh, this mockup looks super cool.

Kamalot on April 14, 2005 at 11:27 pm

And the silver ‘dome’ on top is concave. Nice.

Uh, that’s disgusting. It’s like a smashed GameCube.

I think that this mock up was VERY thought out, and i congradulate them on making the best mock up I have seen yet. I only think that the design would look alot more like the DS rather than smooth. instead of a circular shape, it would be a tad more edgy, like looking at a closed DS from the front.

Other than that, it’s pertty awesome.

Pluse, there is another image to this one if you didn’t know. It illustrates the controllers, which I also thought was very thought out. It would run on rechargable batteries for the wireless and the misc LED lights. It was pretty awesome. I saw it on that french site…. jeux-france.com or something like that. Once again, the controlers need to look a tad more DS-esque.

What’s a “cartrage slot”?

N/A

Baldridge on April 15, 2005 at 4:02 pm

I get the feeling that the ‘revolution’ part was more to do with ease of programming and materializing your creativity without getting bogged down with computer science. I think new control interface will be revolutionary, but I think that’s not where everything about revolution lies.

FAMICOM on April 16, 2005 at 2:18 am

this mockup is really well thaught but I remember all the speculation about the DS last year, and when we all saw it at last , it was very simple and good looking “with simplicity” this was and will be the nintendo way .

My, but aren’t we curt Philosopher? Actually Pitfall had action taking place on one screen, then as Harry avoided all of the traps or enemies on a screen and got to the other end, the camera scrolls while Harry is inactive. In Super Mario Bros. the screen moves as you move, which is known as active scrolling – adding a completely different dynamic to the gameplay.

Still though, I thought of an example to discredit my previous claim, and that is Moon Patrol (as well as Custer’s Revenge – the randy goat.) Somewhat off-topic, does Moon Patrol vaguely remind anybody else of Blaster Master?

About the discussion which one came with the side-scrolling games? I have the right awnser. It was the game called Graduis from Konami and came on the MSX2 (or MSX1), now I don’t think anyone knows this machine, but it came out before the Nes. Maybe some of you know the game as Nemesis. It was a space flying shooting game. Very difficult but very addictive (at least for me it was). So there you have it and for the non-believers download an MSX emulator and seek the game. If you can’t find the game E-mail me and I can send it to you. DekarLufia@hotmail.com
