[Now Playing| YTaG - DS]

Now that both systems are out, every major games site feels the need to do a ‘VS’ acrticle. Meh, whatever. Basically, if you want a portable game system with a good battery and no load time get the DS. If you want a fancy gadget that happens to play games along with movies and music, get the PSP. We know which one will have better games.
I think the funny part is that, before the PSP launched, all of the big sites were singing its praises and saying how it mopped the floor with the DS. Now that its out, they have changed their tune. I guess after all the hype they finally realized its about the games.
Ill stick with my DS and iPod for the road and my Cube and DVD player at home. Ive always prefered dedicated devices that did one thing and did them very well. Once you start to try to be everything to everyone you lose focus and all the parts suffer.

“Once you start to try to be everything to everyone you lose focus and all the parts suffer.”
Honestly, I couldn’t have said it better. My iPod does what the PSP can do as far as music is concerned, and it does it BETTER. My portable DVD player does what the PSP can do (watch movies on the go), and for 100 dollars less. And it too does it better. Without me having to buy movies in Sony’s proprietary format.
Oh, and my DS can play games better than… >=P

Amen
Nick Luckett - 03.30.05 12:21 pm
Saying that the PSP can play music is just fine and dandy, but you might want to include that to get it to hold 1/20 of what an ipod can hold,& you need to pay $150, which is half the cost of the PSP & ipod.
HeroLink - 03.30.05 2:09 pm
The 1Up Article also states the PSp can play movies off of the UMD for 25 hours.
“25 hours playing UMD movies”
I don’t htink that’s correct. Can someone shed light on this?
Kamalot - 03.30.05 2:17 pm
Total BS. Or they got their facts mixed up (probably meant 2.5). I hear it lasts 1 movie. Thats 3 hours max.
I sent them an email, so hopefully they fix it.
Nick Luckett - 03.30.05 2:21 pm
With the almost confirmed “true” rumor that Divx will publish movies on the Nintendo DS cartridge, i feel no need for the PSP. Plus, theres the V-Pocket, we don’t know what it is, but the Big N has said to have to developed it as a PSP killer. Never the less, this years E3 will be all the rage.
Aaron - 03.30.05 4:15 pm
Yeah, and theres always the Play-Yan, which Reggie hinted will be coming to the US.
Nick Luckett - 03.30.05 4:18 pm
but do not forget there IS A LOT OF MORONS WHO WILL ACTUALLY BUY THE PSP !!!! SO SAD
silversurfer - 03.30.05 5:25 pm
Does the PSP have a much larger pixel size or what….cuz the DS comes to a total of 512×384 vs the PSP’s 480×272.
I hope they release a DS with a TINY TINY hinge of some kind…The gap is killing me in YTaG and, it defeats the possiblitiy of turning the DS sideways to get a widescreen.
matt - 03.30.05 7:34 pm
Yeah, originally I thought the game was gonna be really small so you could turn it sideways. Or at least have almost one huge vertical screen.
Nick Luckett - 03.30.05 9:09 pm
high-five!
This is the first website I’ve been to that hasn’t been raving nonstop about the PSP.
but WHERE’S THE GAMES?!?
greg - 03.31.05 12:47 am
“Does the PSP have a much larger pixel size or what….cuz the DS comes to a total of 512×384 vs the PSP’s 480×272.”
your math is wrong. two 256×192 screens makes it 256×384 -OR- 512×192. you’d need four 256×192 screens to get 512×384.
sadly, that’s probably nintendos next move. forget new games, just throw more screens on it.
Dan - 04.02.05 4:31 pm
ilove psp,but it has many flaws.deadpixels.flimsy analog nub.no cover on the screen.too weak.low gaming and multimedia battery life.alot of games are overhyped, and others look like complete ps1 crap.apeescape is a fake pokemon. And,there arent many anticipated games past GTAandSOCOM.So, by the nod,the nintendoDS is superior to sony’s warrior of the PSP.
ngamer - 04.03.05 12:03 pm
I love my Gameboy. LOVE. My wife and I both have one. We have a big box full of cartridges. We have a Gamecube with wavebirds and games galore. But we just don’t like the DS. It feels like a toy. It isn’t fun to hold or play. The games are boring! The only game which looks any good is Metroid and it isn’t even out yet. And the touch screen controls in games always feel tacked on. I still have my Gameboy SP. And I’m waiting patiently for the next Gameboy and hoping Nintendo doesn’t screw it up.
BrianG. - 04.03.05 11:57 pm
I agree with what a lot of you are saying, and I prefer the DS to the PSP. However, what I definitely won’t deny is that if someone gave me a PSP with Ridge Racer, Lumines and a 2GB memory card, I’d be really, really pleased. In my mind, what holds the PSP back from greatness is load times(absolutely unacceptable on a handheld for me), battery life and price. Besides that, I think it’s extremely cool, but those three factors, little though they may seem, eliminate all possibility of a purchase for me. I think that’s gonna prove true of a lot of people.
namor7 - 04.04.05 1:27 am
features tell it all…PSP RULES BABY!!!
Axel - 06.15.05 11:30 pm
I have both PSP and DS and all i can say is that i cant remember where i put my DS because i seldom use it. there’s nothing much to do with it and the games are too damn boring!
Donald - 06.16.05 5:48 am
I don’t mean to put down the DS or anything, but honestly there aren’t very many good games available for it right now. IMO, there are a few gems (Warioware DS) but I like the PSP lineup a bit better (TM:HO, Wipeout Pure… ect). Plus, the PSP has a larger homebrew application creating community than the DS. There are already emulators available that will play SNES, NES, and Genesis games, expanding the PSP’s library 100 fold. I’m not saying I dislike the DS, but I like the PSP a bit better.
Tooncy - 06.16.05 6:43 pm
i dont think the DS is a bad machine however i do much prefer the psp, the ds is almost as powerfull as the nintendo 64 and the psp almost as powerfull as the playstation 2, its like saying hmmm this is a hard decision shall i buy a playstation 2 or a nintendo 64.
i do think that when the xbox came out everyone said they hated it and it was naff becawse in their hart they know it was the better console, like fanboys and poeple who were scared their console was going to be massacred the the big box, and i think its happening with the psp.
ok the psp is not as good as an ipod as a music player due to it not holding as much but it is a secondary feature and you dont even have to use it as an mp3 player in the first place
ok the psp does have its flawes like dead pixels and thing like battery life.
please would you explain why psp buyers are morons as i would like to know.
Z - 06.24.05 9:49 am
ok i did make a few typing mistakes but that dosent mean i am a moron
Z - 06.24.05 9:52 am
i like what you are all saying here: constructive criticsim. i love this type of stuff and ill tell be supervisor about your all ideas, he has a direct link to itora satuwa and he can make some changes. one thing were working on though… and dont post this on anyone elses site be cuase i trust only people at 4cr… is a foldable screen. thats all i need to say.
nintendoemplyee - 06.24.05 6:41 pm
“its like saying hmmm this is a hard decision shall i buy a playstation 2 or a nintendo 64.”
The Psp has no more than a PS1 and the DS has the GRAPHICS of a N64 but not the quality, like touch screen 2 screen. therefor you are getting mre than a nintendo 64 and way less then a PS2 unless im wrong
i also dont agree with the “there’s nothing much to do with it and the games are too damn boring!”
since he had said that the have made Mario Kart and many others plus: i really like the multi player games on metroid and mario.
mario - 07.09.05 11:21 pm
Um…I only own a psp but i’ve played both and the only good games on the DS are metroid and mario 64. Every thing else can’t touch the psp. So in short, buy PSP.
PSPOwnz - 08.04.05 1:19 am
PSP VS DS.ITs a no brainer really.sure the DS has a touch screen and dual screen but it is a N64 in the end.And the psp is more of a PS 1,7.its grafics engine is much better. But in the DS defence it is really a generation behind the PSP.the next gameboy series should give the PSP a real run for its money.in the end the PSP KIKS Ass!those who say the PSP does to many things, just cant come to terms with the fact that their console which they have been loyal to is finally been BETEN!the PSP has impotrs from PS2 are really COOL!coz the fanboys might say its cop out but for some who dont happen to own a PS2 they can play the games too without having to buy a PS2.with the exception of load times MIDNIGHT CLUB 3 for PSP is spot on, its nearly identical to the PS2 version.back to the PSP mutli capabilties.WHAT would you prefer?carrying a digital camera&video cam corder&cellphone&portable video player&calculator&internet PDA of sorts&many other devices…..or just one SMART PHONE with a slight quality difference!the choice is yours.its the same with the PSP.its UNIVERSAL.CHANGE IS A CONSTANT.Except it and let GO!NITENDO LOYAL FANBOYS!PLZ feel free to critisize my OPinion, lets see what the best you can come up with.
WANABE PSP! - 08.06.05 4:51 pm
Anything the psp can play the ds can., sure it wont have the same graphics, but who gives a shit. Can the Psp play WarioWare touched. no. can the ds play wipeout pure. yes.
Bob - 08.07.05 3:35 am
PSP vs. DS:
PSP: Better graphics, More Durable CD cartriges(Stolen from previous Nintendo systems), Music Downloads, and a Camera(must buy for $300).
DS: Wireless compatability, Microphone, Touch Screen, More durable Hardware, PictoChat, able to play GB & GBA games, and a Fully customizable Menu.
Who wins? DS, No Shit.

“its like saying hmmm this is a hard decision shall i buy a playstation 2 or a nintendo 64.â€

psp just got owned
Mr Crow - 08.11.05 9:09 pm
The DS is better.
Also I have an enourmously huge penis
Blair - 08.11.05 11:02 pm
I prefer the DS to the PSP. Sure, the PSP has better graphics, but when both systems have great graphics, does it really matter all that much? (i don’t care what you say, the DS has awesome graphics for a handheld)
I don’t want every invention ever made crammed into a system, I want to play games. Also, I don’t know why people think that the PSP looks good. I think it looks terrible (and the DS is only a little bit better).
If they shrank down the screen a bit, took out a bunch of that useless crap and dropped the price 100 bucks or so, made the battery life better, made load times shorter, got some 3rd parties to make a few games that I would want to play, and made it sturdier, I’d consider. But until then, I could care less how many things it can do (especially since many of the “cool” things it does are done in a mediocre way at best).
Shiznit - 08.16.05 3:37 pm
I think that you want something to enjoy, not something to gab about, OK, PSP is better in graphics and there’s MP3, DVD, ETC. You don’t want that, we want something new, like dual screens, touch screen and exelent games, I’m not saying that PSP games are crap, they are good and I reaallly loved wipeot but the DS games are better.
ario 64 DS, Wario Ware and the upcoming games.
Hamilton - 08.18.05 11:19 am
DS rules!
Hamilton - 08.18.05 11:22 am
I been a nintendo fanboy ever since I got my gamecube. Since I got gamecube I started to play old nes games on my comp snes games and n64. First system I ever had was a Nintendo (Nes). First 3d system I ever had was a Ps1. I remember games like spyro the dragon and crash bandicoot. Good times. Wow what a long way we’ve come. Psp… Beautiful graphics. There was the first level of the spiderman game and the water looked so purty. The cutscenes looked really realistic. But I donno, the controls were kinda uncomfortable for me. It really dulled the fun and it reminded me to much of the ps2 spiderman. The ds had me play the mario minigames for soooo long. Super mario 64 ds isn’t all that fun If you’ve already played the one for n64 or sunshine, but its more fun the spiderman anyway. The minigames for it were so original and fun. Ok psp can play movies, music, (emulators?) Now that changed my view on the psp. EMULATORS well, wow thats every game you could ever want on the go. But then I’d be playing nintendo games on my psp and that would remind me of all the fun ds could be and that would suck.I feel kinda reluctant on buying the psp. Why, you ask? Well Animal Crossing will be coming out for the ds. I’ll be missing out on ultimate fun If I don’t get animal crossing. And that new nintendogs game looks extremely fun. I’m really not looking forward to playing any Crash or Spyro games on the psp. Since recently those titles have become Whack!? Too bad.. Ds seems like it will have so many original games i mean with the stylus and all. During that long car ride you want to play something completely new on your handheld, because that’s the only way you’ll stay hooked. You dont wanna play you handheld for like 8 mins, stop and then feel like you just brought your ps2 w/ you.
