Shades of the 90’s. This time its Hillary Clinton who is attacking violent video games. Back in the day, I never understood the big deal about Mortal Kombat. However, I have to say that I do agree with Clinton on the GTA thing. Because of the huge audience this game reaches, and the sick shit you can do in that game, I think its a justifiable concern. Of course, I dont want regulation in my games. However, the crazy violent stuff should be kept out of the hand of minors.
I know that retailers dont really care. Every game store Ive ever been to (or worked at) will sell a kid any game he wants. Most parents are too disconnected with thier kids to notice what they are playing.
The issue here is awareness. As long as people are more informed and the rating system is better enforced then things will be fine.

like i always say: it’s up to the parents. personally, when i have kids i’ll keep a close eye on what they’re playing.

Same here. Voilent games are fine, but you have to understand your childs mentality and know if they are ready for it.
Hell, Im always surprised when little kids get freaked out at movies. I went to see the Incredibles in the theatre and a little girl was crying because it was ‘too scray.’ Huh?

Man, I remember when I was younger and I went to Sears to get Perfect Dark. They wouldn’t sell it to me because I was to young so I had to spend another hour looking for my mom so I could go buy it(not to mention the few minutes I had to convince her to let me buy it). That was such a terrible hour.

Another dumbass kills people at his school, another surge in “OMG VIDEO GAMES ARE TEH TO BLAMEZ0R” comments by the people most disconnected from videogames and violence.
Money causes violence too.

Why don’t gamers blame politicians for influencing people with their violent and inhumane real-life policies? I’m sure that postal workers and the guy that opened fire on the church were big GTA fans.

Hey now, dont go twisting things around! This all the fault of entertainers!

Oops. You mean the COMMUNISTS in Hollywood. McCarthy, we need you again.
polishresearch - 03.31.05 8:32 pm
There are no Communists in the entertainment biz. What are you talking about?
Nick Luckett - 03.31.05 9:09 pm
Haha. Well, personally, I have no interest in playing GTA, but I respect the whole idea of giving the player a moral choice. I think that’s intriguing. The problem is, games that make use of such a system are usually the same games that go out of their way to glorify violence and make it fun. I can’t stand stuff like that. It’s a complex issue, and too many in the gaming community just pass it off as ‘Hilary Clinton has no idea what she’s talking about’.

BTW, your comments were right on the mark, Nick. Censorship sucks, but kids shouldn’t have access to that stuff.
