[Now Playing| YTAG - DS]

The latest issue of Nintendo Dream has some new pics of Advance Wars DS. Looks like the official title (at least in Japan) is Famicom Wars DS: Battle of Omega Land. Now, lets keep our fingers crossed that its Wifi enabled.

Was there a Famicom Wars for Famicom?
funtographer - 03.20.05 6:04 pm
Yup, thats where it started. Never saw them over here though.
Nick Luckett - 03.20.05 6:06 pm
Hey look, it looks EXACTLY THE SAME.
Sorry if that sounded bitter, but I’m sick of the GBA graphics on this very capable machine.
Jordan Mathews - 03.20.05 11:33 pm
Looking the same in this case is a good thing.
The current graphics style works and looks great IMHO.
If done right, a 3D version of Advance Wars would be awesome. Unfortunately the fully 3D Advance Wars on Gamecube is more real-time action than strategy, more info here.

I’m glad to see 2D gaming hasn’t/won’t die off because of new technology. There’s just something to be said about the effort of making drawn graphics.

[…] tenere l’impostazione di strategico in tempo reale.
Consoliamoci con le prime immagini di Advance Wars DS, perlomeno. […]

I don’t see why NOA is keeping the name Advanced wars. Every Wars title took the name of its system, Famicom Wars, Super Famicom Wars, Gamboy Wars, Advance Wars…..Comon just call it DS wars like Japan!
newave - 03.21.05 5:34 pm
Actually, they’re calling it “Famicom Wars DS”.
So uh.
We’re fine.

The reason we have no 3D games is simple, developers (including Nintendo) are too lazy to work on a 3D engine for their games. Games like the Urbz are even the worst case, the game tries to emulate 3D graphics by having the artwork look 3D, without being actually 3D. Advance Wars could easily look great with 3D, not like the GCN version (which doesn’t look that good), but the same game with vehicles that are 3D rather than 2D.
Another bad case of 3D-fever is Age of Empires DS. Sure, we’re excited, but the game’s using 2D graphics that look 3D, very unexciting. The PSP is going to get a lot more hits unless Nintendo starts working on games that LOOK good.
Super Mario 64 was 3D to show off the capabilities, but the engine was passed down from the N64 so Nintendo didn’t have to do any work. Feel the Magic was 3D, but you can tell there wasn’t much work put into it. Nintendogs looks pretty good, and I’m glad that it’s 3D. Maybe third party developers will try to work on 3D games too?

Don’t get me wrong, though, I love 2D games. Gameplay is a lot different between 2D and 3D games, and sometimes we NEED 2D to pull it off (I remember playing through the last dungeon in Link to the Past and I had to hookshot blindly to get to a certain spot that I couldn’t see cause of the camera, in a 3D Zelda, I could’ve just looked forward in FP mode).
Games like Age of Empires and Advance Wars could play the same way no matter what dimension they use, 2 or 3. Why go for the worse looking one? Especially when the graphics are identical to the original.
Dejital - 03.21.05 9:27 pm
Yeah Yeah we all want 3D , blah blah blah, I think that you did’nt get yet, THE NINTENDO DS IS DIFFERENT !!!! if you want classic 3d platformer stick with your home console, the DS is designed for fun games that use an EXTRA TOUCH SCREEN and some extra features that still unexploited yet voice recog, free wifi, just be patient and you will see the light sometime in 2006 when the real softwares are released , mario, metroid, zelda and then if you’re desapointed , COMPLAIN !!!, AND BUY A PSP WICH BY THE WAY i do not think , this “fragile expensive tiny-battery-lifed so called handheld” will live until 2006, just because the 3rd parties will stop the support and make games for the DS , not because they like nintendo but because the is selling 10 time better than the PSP.

Good words. Good words. But its the gameplay that counts really. and burn PSP

DS lauch (2) sorry as punk kiddy game boy advace titles every 6 months and that sucks and If nintendo have in mind launch 3d games for DS I hope no take (5) years in develope (2)Winnie the Poh Pink Baby Titles. (o) If some body have an SP go to EBX or Babagges and trade it! for a PSP as fast as you can before the price of your DS falling down. Life is now enjoy a PSP and don“t belive in nintendo pinky baby promises anymore.
If you like 2d buy a regular game boy SP because no good 3d games arrive for DS.

Mesiah, first learn to spell, once you do, then you may TRY and put down other consoles. Even though they will be to no avail, you can try. And we can laugh.
*laughs*
Kerry - 06.18.05 4:30 pm
Roflcopter…pinky baby promises? Hm, I always get a pretty good laugh out of people saying Nintendo makes games for little kids…LOLOLOLol its so funny I am actually laughing as I write this! Hehehe, now I am not going to say RE4, or Killer 7, or Riviera, or anything else because everyone always says those as examples. Anyways, if graphics really mattered so much, why is Starcraft still in the pro-gaming circuit? Why is it broadcast on PUBLIC television in South Korea? And it is 7 years old! LOLOLOL…do your homework

I got a DS and my Sis in law has a PSP. I really cant compare which is better. Coz there are some games i like in DS dat has so so graphics and in PSP some games are so simple and yet graphics are awsome…i just wish that DS in the near future will have better graphics…im so dissapointed when I bought Famicom WARZ i was expecting better graphics but…wow it looks the same…too bad i shudve bought nintendogs instead
4yearoldgamerkid - 07.31.05 10:47 pm
Advance Wars DS is really going to rock. You get new Megatanks with 5 cannons, and a little person behind each person. Does PSP have this? NO so don’t buy it.
