At least thats what Spong is claiming. This is a rumor I can believe. Not that Im in any way guaranteeing anything. Whispers and hints of big things have been heard around the net and if Nintendo was going to strike a blow to Sony, now would be the time.
Supposedly, some info will come when Iwata speaks at the GDC on March 10th. However, it would be a pretty forced action since the conference has nothing to do with upcoming Nintendo products.
Anyway, follow the link to see the text from Spongs article (which, by the way has been pulled since then…so either it was totally false or they got a little too close).
“Nintendo DS Online Network Announcement in 10 Days
SPOnG can confirm that Nintendo will be announcing a full-scale online network for their Nintendo DS game system in 10 days. While exact details are scarce, SPOnG has learned that the network, dubbed No-Line, will be similar to the type of service Microsoft utilizes for their Xbox Live network. Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous, has confirmed this after drinking heavily and posting vague comments on a video game message board.
When the announcement comes, remember where you read it first.”

Um… I’d kill for this to be true….
…kill

Holy crap!
The Heavy Drinking story may be just to cover their asses if nothing happens, or it could be the reason for the outburst.
The fact that the article has been taken offline is a potential bad sign.
Here’s hoping that it’s true though! The addition of a Live service would definately make me wanna buy a DS, especially if it’s cheap.

ya know i might believe it for more than 2 minutes if it was SpOng that “broke” the story

I’m not sure what’s killing me more: suspense over the Revolution, or that over the online plans for the DS.

It’s just Chad spouting off at the mouth again.

Whenever Nintendo announces it’s fully realized online plan, I do not think that it will resemble Microsoft’s XBOX service. And they DEFINITELY aren’t going to make you pay a subscription for it. Just wait, you’ll see.

Keyholes everywhere be warned! Flying DS’s and kiosks shooting death rays are bound to appear.

This could be another great reason to get a DS - PSP has an online service in the wings, but if it’s anything like the PS2 online service, it’ll be terrible. Microsoft have shown that online gaming can be easy to get into, straightforward, reliable and fun, so this is all good news.
DS in UK next week, w00t!
PAINPAINPAIN - 03.03.05 6:30 am
Spong isn’t exactly a high-quality source of information… nonetheless many signs point to DS online being unveiled someday soon. Much more reliable folks have at least hinted at it.

When the DS goes online, it will be simple, free and it will just work. Nintendo does not want you to have to jump through hoops to play. They don’t want you to have to worry about a subscription.

Wasn’t the DS supposed to come online January 1, 2005 with the help of a well known tunneling group? Wasn’t the DS supposed to come online January 27, 2005 in Paris, France?
These rumours are made to keep DS owner’s hearts pumping. Unfortunately, as we have seen over time, they have all been false. I have to say that this rumour is flying by me just as all of those others did.
No-Line sounds more like an announcement where the DS will be said to never come online.
Dejital - 03.03.05 5:29 pm
By the way, the PSP has already been tunneled.
Dejital - 03.03.05 5:30 pm
thank you mr. last-year’s-news. i would rather have a full-fledged online service than tunnelling…even though the psp will have that too. the point is, if both are online, it won’t really make a difference which one was tunnelled first.

Last year’s news? This rumour that we are commenting on sprung up some time in December.
