Looks like Konami’s big announcement was a few new DS games! Pimp. Not only do we get new info on Castlevania DS, but also Frogger, Dragon Booster and Lost in Blue. Castlevania looks to be as cool as we all hoped.
Lost in Blue (is that a bad translation?) looks really cool also. Anyone who knows me knows that I love survival themes. One man against mother nature. Even better if they are stranded on an island, which is exactly what is going on in this game. Kinda like Lord of the Flies and Castaway as a game. Very very cool!
And here is what everyone has been waiting for, a video of Castlevania:

Hey, did you notice the new art-style for Castlevania?

BTW, did you see the new PS2 Castlevania? It looks like the the artist for AoS was probably working on that title. BTW, it looks cool. With AoS2 on the DS and Curse of Darkness on the PS2, it looks like the franchise is getting the kick in the balls that it needs.

Wow, I just saw some of the art for the PS2 game….amazing. The DS game’s art looks too childish Anime for me, but the PS2 stuff is great. Ill post it later.

Lost in Blue is Survival Kids 3. Survival Kids 2 never made it over here, sadly. The art style for Lost in blue looks a bit like the art style done by Takahiro Kishida to me, but I may be wrong on that. I’d love to know who’s drawing the characters this time around. They certainly look like his style.
This game is the best game on that list. I mean, Castlevania will be good, but Lost in Blue is the real meaty game on this list. If you want, here are some links to reviews for the game from my site. The first two are reader submitted reviews and may be about as long as some of IGN’s reviews. So, you’ve been warned that they’re short.
I’m too lazy to give the links directly, so just copy/paste these suckers into your bar, okay? The third one is the most in-depth. I know. I wrote it.

This game is one of the reasons I bought my DS. The second game never made it to the USA, which was a terrible injustice. The two main characters started in seperate areas of the island. It was about two brothers who were kidnapped and during the kidnapping, one of them fell out of the kidnappers plane. Apparently, they’re the kids of the original pair that later became famous explorers or so. So, depending on which kid you chose, you’d have to either escape from the kidnappers compound to find your brother, then escape; or find a way to break into the compound to find your brother then escape. It was interesting in that you could utilize animals and other devices to aid you. The boy who got captured would use a parrot as a partner, etc. You could send the parrot to fly through vents or to areas the boy couldn’t reach. You had to use the parrot to get out of your cell. Later on in the game, you had to set up traps as well. It was neat.
Lost in Blue -from these screenshots- seems to have the following items from the previous games.
1. The three fold health again. Fatigue, Food, and Water. You have to watch those, if any of those gets too low, you lose life points and eventually die. Eat, drink, and rest to regain strength. Yes, Metal Gear Solid 3 ripped its system directly from the first Survival Kids. Unlike MGS3 though, the weather will contribute to how quickly those go down. Example: Rain makes the characters clothes heavier and if it’s cold debilitate them, thus slightly increases fatigue usage. At night you fatigue more too.
2. Leading. In the first one, the second character would stay on a boat. In the second one, they could follow you. This one looks like it uses a more advanced leading section than the previous ones. That would make it similar to ICO in that regard.
3. Object combinations. In the first and second games, you could find things like rocks/sticks/vines and combine them to create useful items and weapons. You could also create dumb things like the baseball set or a jump rope. This was achieved by find bits of things and putting them together. You could combine more complex items by adding bits of modern stuff to the parts you had in the second game. A bit MacGyver-ish, but definately cool.
4. Animals for food and assistance. Well, in the first and second games you had a “pet” you could find that would help you. In the first game, it’s a monkey that helped you gather food in the next category, and in the second one, it was a parrot and a monkey. You can also chase down, kill and eat fuzzy bunnies.
5. Mini-Games. Most of the mini-games involved a monkey in the first game. It would toss these eggs from a nest or climb a tree and you had to catch the eggs or manuver to avoid obstacles. Expect a few mini-games.
6. Well, we’ve already gotten this one confirmed: Multiple Endings are a huge part of this game as is the replay value. They randomly assaign some natural and herbal food items to be poisonous the second time around. The first game had that, a harder mode with a few hidden items, and 8 different endings. A few of the endings SUCKED, not tacky sucked, tragic sucked. (Ending 5… so sad…)
7. There’s much more to the game and these screenshots don’t do it justice. However, the 3D parts are telling. They look close to Oregon Trail, but they’re more likley to be a bit like an FPS, in which you can move from it.
Needless to say, this game is seriously hot, everyone should buy it. Unless they somehow mess it up.. which seems unlikely.. this is my pick for DS game of 2005. Well, Another Code will have be it’s main competition. Gah! >_< It’s going to be hard this year to choose.
